16 years later, No Russian is still disturbing as hell

Y'can't get old, if you're dead..

Topher Topher ?

I was desensitized in the 80s, chopped heads and executed lined up prisoners at 10 on the C64, but has grown overly sensitive as I get older. Today I'm far too weak for anything like this. Just can't do it. And it's not just about graphics being more realistic, I even choose to save the innocent fleeing baby mushrooms in Hollow Knight that run around after you kill their mini boss mommy. 🥺

I still find the atomic bomb level more disturbing. Also more casualties. It's just that an atomic bomb set off in a highly populated area seems more humane to us, doesn't it?

Fucking mass shooter simulator right here. I still find this sequence to be the most chilling and fucked up scenario I've ever seen in a AAA game. And I know it's optional.

Has Call of Duty ever topped this? Has anything?

Never really understood why it was "fuckup up". I mean there are dozens of games where you can kill civilians, innocent people. A little game called GTA for exemple, where you occiasionally kill thoussands of innocent civilians just walking in the streets. Except if you play "RP".
It's as optionnal as in MW2.

MW2 is still the best cod game ever made. God I fucking loved that game. I should replay mw and mw2.
I got around to beating the MW 2 campaign remake about three and a half years ago and it completely blew me away. It's aged like a fine wine; sounds, looks, and plays like an absolute dream, just an essentially perfect campaign.

Patrice is so good, man .
I'm enraptured everytime I hear his audio.

It was never disturbing, only the CNN folks made it out to be that way. Its a video game, I dont "sympathize" with civilian NPCs lol. I pulled that trigger with the biggest grin on my face just as if they were the enemy. Its just a game, same as I wouldnt even care if it happened in a movie, its part of a bigger set.

The shock value didn't work for me at all, I just thought it was pretty cringe. Edgy gratuitous violence. The way the media reacted to it was ridiculous as well.

There's no weighting behind it. It's just like an empty shooting range. MGSV intro is a far better example of how to do it right.

The mission still offends me, because of how stupid it is.
I don't think many undercover agents would try to maintain their cover so diligently they'll participate in a mass-shooting that's literally presented as false-flag operation using American weapons to be pinned on foreign powers.

It's so stupid it burns. Logic only a child could subscribe to.

To me it was a cringe PR gimmick, trying to be more controversial than GTA/R*.

To make the media sh*t the bed, which made it appeal to the dude-bro and jackass gerneration of casuals even more.

An embarrassment to the industry.(like GTA)

I feel like GTA 4 and 5 are more violent and controversial in general. I remember thinking GTA III was amazing back when it released and I was a kid, even though there were some disturbing moments like one mission you grab a car and take it to the compress but there's a guy tied up in the trunk. That felt more raw and left an impact in me more than getting maximum wanted level.

In Vice City, whenever I saved the game and "finished a session" I would use all my weapons and kill everything and then just turn off the PS2. One time, I remember using a magnum and just using the lock-on to kill random people and mindlessly shoot, but one pedestrian started running away and said "Mommy" before Tommy Vercetti took him out and it made me feel horrible. 😞

Nowadays, GTA V in first person feels very No Russian when playing.

I think the revisionist history of MW 2019 is still the king of bad taste. Makes ya wonder who's in that writing room at Activision. Or where that writing room is located. My guess is Virginia.

It definitely made an impression on me, it was unexpected and wild. But it wasn't disturbing really.

When I played it the real gut punch was the end of the end of the level. It was all for nothing, worse than nothing, because your presence leads to WW3, even if you tried not to shoot anyone.

No less disturbing than violence being glorified in US entertainment like a dumb ass who goes killing half the country just because someone killed a dog his dying wife gave him. Yeah, that guy is a superhero apparently...

Yeah, come at me, you violence lovers.
I mean, to be fair, the people that JW kills are already criminals/assassins/non-innocent civilians.

Not trying to get political whatsoever ✌🏻

I just wanna talk about seriously fucked up moments in games that reach that level.

Spec Ops with the white phosphorous was pretty fucked up for example. But it ain't No Russian.
Should be a mod combo of those two and call it White Russian.

Talking about Spec Ops, one sequence that I find just as memorable and striking is the one in which you're given the chance to open fire against the civilian population after they hang your buddy near the end of the game. The lead-up to that moment was so intense and dramatic, it really was able to get you to act purely based on your own selfishness and raw emotions without even thinking about the consequences of your actions...

Needless to say that I killed as many of those "innocents" as I could 🚬

Has anything?

"RapeLay is a 3D rape simulator by Illusion Soft, makers of the Artificial Girl series. The player takes the role of a rapist who stalks a family consisting of three young women, raping them repeatedly until their will breaks and they become his slaves. Events in RapeLay range from groping on a train to gang rape and forced abortions."

I beat this game. 🤷‍♂️

3 million remasters releasing a year but not this? Cowards!

Didnt remember anything about this level at all except shooting innocents. Watched a full clip of the level and didnt realize what a short level it was too. The ambulance getaway part is similar to the batman movie with the school bus blending in.

MW remake. I can't remember the scene, but I remember it involving kids. I started crying and never went back to the campaign. Multiplayer was still lit though.

The thing with the 3D GTA games is the pedestrians are never really dead, an ambulance usually gets dispatched to revive them and they just walk away like nothing happened.

Didn't bother me at release, and it doesn't bother me now. Not trying to sound Tuff™️, I'm happy to admit I've gotten emotional with a ton of different movies, but yeah idk for whatever reason this didn't phase me.

While I think Infinite Warfare has a great campaign I don't think it matches the high of the first two Modern Warfare games.

Campaign wise I think it's MW2>COD4>COD2>Infinite Warfare>WaW
I can see what you mean. To me, the Modern Warfare was cool in CoD4, the OG Modern Warfare, but it already lost its pull with MW2. But I can see why the three Modern Warfare games are held in high regard.

I would really love to have a MW3 Remaster to go alongside the other two. I know MW3 isn't as beloved as the first two but I still enjoyed it a lot.

It's currently stuck on PS3/360 (BC compatible on One/Series) and PC. Unfortunately the PC version doesn't have native controller support and COD will always be a controller game for me just like Halo.

This was one of rare WTF moments in my gaming carrier..............was very disturbing moment for me & I still remembering it well.

Meh, felt pretty tame compared to other things I've done in game (like committing mass genocide in skyrim just because i got caught killing a chicken)
