Kill: Hey! Arnold
Because this is the one show Anihawk is trying to save
And since Ani is the snitch (that probably saved this show last round)
Arnold gets the ditch.

Kill: No second kill this round. One focus, one kill.

hey arnold was safe without me. i was trying to save the powerpuff girls. more accurately, i was trying to kill dexter's lab, so i had to save the powerpuff girls.

most accurately, we had already discussed about explaining your damn choices when you vote otherwise they'd be dq'ed, and this is something that was already in effect.

Arnold gets the ditch, football head needs to be punted.
It has long over stayed it's welcome.

Kill: Hey Arnold these final rounds are just hard to vote for so throwing darts at names now
Kill: Powerpuff Girls it's time has come for it to go

00s Anime Survivor Suggestions
So guys, I will be including anime in the 00s survivor thread but I need your help. If you want an anime that you liked that aired in the US from 2000 to 2010, Suggest it in this round. I will go through these suggestions and add a decent amount of those shows to the list.
Alright voting is now open for this round. Go ahead and vote!

That's disappointing and probably going to ruin the list. Is anyone keen on running a Saturday morning style cartoons only thread? Might be better just to do a separate Anime and Cartoon thread.

Your going to put anime in the next cartoon survivor? That seems like it'll be a huge mess. It just seems like it'll be a list of over 100-150 (could be higher because there were a ton of anime released from 00-09) instead of a good 50 like this one. I think anime could have a survivor of its own, and have a ton of shows in it.

I just think of it like, if there was an anime survivor. Would people think of putting "Family Guy" in an anime survivor? Nope, wouldn't even cross anyone's mind.

Also, I don't think it'll be fair if you ask someone to compare KND to Air Gear.

Whether or not you do it, I'll still give a list:

Not sure if you were asking for lists of good anime from the 00's, or just 1 anime from each person. Regardless, I'll do both just in case.

Absolutely agree, we could get a few people together and run a separate Cartoon only thread as I suggested above.

It's not a locked in decision though if we did an anime survivor thread, I wouldn't wanna run it. Too much drama.

the saturday morning style cartoon was pretty much wiped out by the end of the 90s. fox and wb stuck it out through the middle of the 2000s and called it quits before the end of the decade. in the early 00s, kids were coming home from middle school to watch toonami as well, or if they were catching shows on other networks, a lot of the time it was stuff like yu-gi-oh, pokemon, and cardcaptors.

these days, saturday mornings is where shows go to die, at least with cable networks. no one makes them like that anymore, and it's largely in part to the changing landscape of animation in america during the 2000s, much of it attributing to anime and the return of 80s ideals of marketing shows so they could sell makeup to girls and action figures to boys.

ignoring anime, at least the stuff that was airing in america, would be ignoring a big part of the decade.

i'm not pushing for stuff that was aired in japan that no one would know, like toradora.

There is still more than enough to cover that, someone posted a list earlier in the thread that was just American saturday morning style and there was over 50, more than enough. If we put anime in that would probably increase it to 150.

i think it still rings false, especially when anime was so popular that western shows adopted the visual style in order to reach a wider audience.

i'm all for leaving out the more obscure stuff, like lain (as much as i like it).

If it was so popular it deserves it's own thread and shouldn't be put up against Kim Possible, Kids Next Door, As Told by Ginger etc...

I can guarantee if we put anime in the list it'll be 9 anime + Avatar in the top 10.

i'm willing to see that experiment through to the end, because i highly doubt it'll be the case.

for americans, i think the highest-ranking anime would be cowboy bebop, and it's an excellent show that deserves it. i honestly struggle to think of any other show that would manage its way into the top ten. maybe dragon ball z again, but nothing else was ever as popular.

So then the list will be filled with shows that most people haven't seen and will have to either abstain from voting or vote for something they haven't seen. The list is going to be filled with stuff we will have to wade through if all anime is included. The only concessions that I would make would be for shows that had a huge western marketing presence towards kids, the only shows I can think of that fit that are DBZ, Pokemon, Cardcaptors and Naruto. Oh and Beyblades.

Let someone else run it, I think anime in a cartoon survivor thread ruins the spirit of it. Can you compare Death Note to Kim Possible?

I think 00s cartoon thread is kinda difficult to figure out. I'm with you on not including anime. But sticking with saturday morning style cartoon is also bit difficult. Most and best cartoons from 00s are clearly targeted for teens and young adults. I bet most people here don't even know about 00s morning cartoons. Except for parent GAF and mid 90s GAF.

I shouldn't have said Saturday Morning Cartoon style, more American cartoons aimed at kids.

Does that include shows like Venture Brothers, American Dad, Family Guy, King of the Hill, etc.? I need a refrence list.

I guess it could? I would feel weird having comparisons between say Family Guy and Jackie Chan Adventures but it wouldn't be too bad, Anime is where I draw the line.

That's what I was thinking as well. I don't mind just having shows like Jackie Chan Adventures, What's New, Scooby-Doo?, Transformers and Danny Phantom, etc. But I would suggest most Gaffers are more familiar with anime then those types of shows. So very least we need to add shows aimed for young adults / teens. I guess at this point it's pointless to think about it. I'll wait for the suggestion thread.

Wait, why did I get disqualified?

Whatever. DEXTER'S FINALLY D-E-D. :D

Though it's a travesty that it lasted as long as it did.

this thread wasn't exclusive to animated kids shows. there was beavis and butthead, south park, the simpsons, daria, and home movies. why should focus of japanese shows be squarely aimed at kids? cowboy bebop and trigun were huge in the early part of the decade, and venture bros., sealab 2021, and harvey birdman attorney at law were all big around that time as well.

and i'd be willing to bet that stuff like cardcaptors and 2000+ pokemon would be shows people probably hadn't seen, while something like fullmetal alchemist and samurai champloo would be examples of shows they had seen. and it wouldn't be because they imported the show from japan, but because they watched the american dub on american television.

Kill: Animaniacs - Yet another round with an Animaniacs kill.
Kill: Hey! Arnold - Hope Animaniacs goes, but if not then rather Arnold out than Rocko

Kill: Rocko (same as yesterday)
Kill: The Simpsons (BEFORE you all send death letters, this vote is like this because I only want out of the top 5 rocko, as i know no one sane wants to really vote the simpsons out, and I even want it to get 1st or 2nd place, so this is done to save the othe shows).

Someone send me a PM if animaniacs or PPG are about to fall intead of Rocko. I want to use my save on that.

You don't have to use both of your kill votes.

Most posters have already admitted to being in their teens/early 20s when these shows aired so it's less of a "What did I think was awesome as a kid" and more of "What could I justify watching" and PPG is one of those shows like MLP where people convince themselves it's good because it "Defies stereotypes" or some other BS.
It was a good show because it was well written and had entertaining action.

Kill: Hey! Arnold
Kill: Rocko's Modern Life

Rocko for the reasons I have continued to state. Hey! Arnold is a great show, but after the strange shit hurled at PPG, I can't bring myself to vote it out.

If there's one thing anime fans can agree on, it's that everyone else's favorite anime is shit and that they should be ashamed.

oh, I thought that would apply to cartoons in general

kill: Hey! Arnold
kill: Animaniacs

both pretty good shows that I'm willing to sacrifice in order to save the other shows on the list. Honestly, neither of them would have made my personal top 10

save: Rocko's Modern Life

wow, seems like I missed a lot.

kill: Rocko
kill: Animaniacs
my one save: Power Puff Girls

I preferred Hey Arnold to RML, I honestly always found Animaniacs obnoxious but left it alone out of respect until this point, and Power Puff Girls is probably more clever than some of you realize.

Kill: Rocko's Modern Life
Kill: Hey Arnold!

Both solid shows, but I prefer all the others to these... except Batman, but there seems to be little interest in killing Batman right now.

FUCK Dex is gone :/

Kill: Hey Arnold. I really think the only reason this show is still on the list is because it ran much longer. Still no doubt its a great show.

Kill: Animaniacs why is this still going....the only great thing about the show was Pinky and the Brain.

Honestly the only worthy shows left are BAS, PPG, and Rocko's.

EDIT: Also the people saying that PPG was a girls show really never watched the show. I'm in my early 20s and Id watch that show all the time when I was younger. It was just good and funny and extremely well written.

Kill: Hey Arnold
Kill: Animaniacs
Save: Rocko's Modern Life

Yeah, using my save on Rocko because it's my underdog. Not much else I'd use a save for anyway. Killing Hey Arnold and Animaniacs to give it a chance for one more round.

Kill Simpsons - Outside of a couple episodes, way overhyped. Killed Steve Sax career.
Kill Hey Arnold - As I've said a few times: Football head has to go. It's un-american.

Kill: Animaniacs - Poster who voted against the Simpsons likes this show.
Kill: Powerpuff Girls - Same as above.
Save: Hey Arnold! - Because the Simpsons should be safe for the top 3.
