1up interviews Peter Moore about X360 Japan stuff

Fuck that, I want to see these PR mouthpieces talk more candidly. I think it makes them a lot more likeable, and at least adds some feeling of honesty behind their usual PR speak.

Describing something as 'retard pack' or 'homo pack' or 'nigger pack' has nothing to do with being candid and everything to do with being offensive.

And really you should forget about any spokesperson/PR mouthpiece being candid about their product if they have a vested interest in keeping their job.

Problem is, 'moneyhats' aren't as common a practice in Japan as they are in the West, and many Japanese companies are against the notion; especially coming from an American powerhouse such as MS.
All bow down to the expert on Japanese business culture.

"Moore: Absolutely. It's a marathon, not a sprint. Day one--do you remember PlayStation 2's day one lineup?"
look, MS, this is your problem in a nut shell.

You aren't the industry leader - you can't compare your performance to what the industry leader did at the LAST launch.

You have to do it better and bigger than the industry leader will do for their NEXT launch.

I'm getting so tired of this stance - if you want to be the best you have to beat the best at what they WILL do , not what they HAVE done.

I know even i've complained about Sony showing stuff that may not be 100% in game etc etc... but hey, if it was my job at MS to push the X360 i'd _know_ and _expect_ sony to do this and i'd be ready to counter act what they show. Not with "oh that's fake" but with similarly demo'ed future products or show reels.

And if it's a marathon and not a sprint, why on earth did they race to launch? If there are only 6 games available, with games delayed then they are obviously running way too fast _and_ they could have potentially added a larger capacity format.

If MS believe their own line that the PS3 and X360 are the same in terms of performance, and that they have good solid support, with great online etc - then they should have delayed to get rid of the non-HD media support issue and have some more launch title games finished.

I have a feeling that the truth is that they knew they can't compete with Sonys "loss and recoup" model on games consoles without burning a shed load of money on doing a similar tactic.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA are you kidding me? Do you know how many people get busted for accepting illegal "money hats" each year in japan? Good god.

So what is this? Some type of bluff? Does MS really have a game in the works with SE (they seemed buddy buddy around last E3). Or is this a serious statement?
Square putting FFXI on Live is so logical it hurts. Had MS not been so protective of Live with the original Xbox, it's a given SE would've released FFXI on it over a year or so ago. Hell, Tanaka himself stated a couple times he was hoping they might be able to.

MS realized they need to loosen up with the 360, and after doing so immediately went to SE, and yada yada FFXI on 360 becomes reality. As for anything else, I'm betting nothing much has changed since last gen. If SE has a project in the works for the 360, I'd actually be kinda surprised.

except , that wasn't the reason FFXI wasn't put on Xbox.

If you guys have a problem with what I said, take it up with Takahashi, because those are his thoughts, not mine.

So it wasn't because MS wouldn't allow SE to use PlayOnline through/instead of Live? I haven't read anything to the contrary, if you know something else, spill it, I'm interested. :)

Looking at the WoW sales vs EQ it sure looks like it was good vision by MS to try and enforce EQ style gameplay onto Level 5.

MS not being able to work with one of the best up and coming developers in the industry is saddening. Hopefully MS didn't completely burn their bridge with Level 5. If any developer is going to make that next big leap with a new age FF or DQ RPG in popularity it is going to be Level 5. MS needs their support more than Level 5 needs MS. Level 5 can go back to working with Sony exclusively now and helping the PSP and PS3 dominate.

just a thought - stop posting things that you don't know about that someone else said as what looks like your own thoughts , because some of the things you are saying are wrong. Just helping you out here.

Also - re: interview - just read it. Excellent stuff, some tricky questions and not an easy puff ball interview. Great stuff, John/Andrew.

Apologies for the confusion, my mistake. Now spill the FFXI Xbox info!

I totally agree.

Damn good interview, didn't pull any punches.

1UP: That's true, but then again, this is Japan, and we're coming off of Xbox 1 in Japan which everybody knows was not the biggest success. And obviously you guys are trying to turn that around in Japan. Having big titles at launch, coming out of the gate with a bang, I'd think would be important here.
Great question and so well put.
