2 new PD0 screens

What is so damn great about GoW? I think it is a good starting point.
:lol :lol :lol

I don't know about "starting point". The fact is GOW for a first generation title seems to live up to expectations - and maybe exceed expectations - quite well. The only firstgen console games I can think of that met or exceeded expectations were Halo for Xbox and Soul Calibre for DC.

I think you guys are overdoing this "starting point" business. Surely, I'd love every game to look better than Gears of War, but these are still the same developers.

Heck, the original Halo still looks better than most games on the Xbox, and has technical aspects that outclass nearly all other console games. Is that the "minimum" since it was released in 2001?

Show me a game from the least of graphics-focused developers which looks better than GoW (let's say Koei or HAL Labs) and I'll agree that this is the minimum.

All the GoW demos we have seen have been running on a PC. We have yet to see a single screen of the game running on either 1) the G5 dev kits or 2) the xbox 360 hardware. There is no guarentee these screens (the pc version) will look the same on 360, I am sure they will be close if not the same but its still not a guarentee. I am holding my breath.

Yeah, alot people haven't realized that Gears of War is/was running on 2 Geforce 6800s in SLI, while PDZ has been running on an old ATI x800

Got it. Show me an Xbox game with the draw distance, scope, clarity and detail of these shot.
Far Cry Instincts....

There are a few things that look good in those screenies (PD0) but some others scream Xbox 1.

I just have to wait to see what the "beta" hardware does. :|

Far Cry Instincts looks great. How is the framerate?

Still amazed at some of the good looking XBox stuff coming out.

Too bad that MS is doing the "Cut and Run" on XBox 1.

Well, at least its how it seems. :|

cabel and border: thanks guys.

Mr Andrews:

my anti-Xbox stand has nothing to do with Rare. I am floored by Gears shots and not floored by PD:0 shots. It's that simple.
I will trash the same way that Sega shooter for PS3. Looked atrocious, no better than last year's PC games. Of course I can't compare it to PS2 games (like Killzone 1) the same way I can compare PD:0 to Xbox1 shots.

I don't think MS is doing a cut and run on the system. The fact is the Xbox will always be able to produce graphics like those seen in Far Cry and Splinter Cell, that being said, how long was MS supposed to wait before releasing their nextgen hardware? Surely not long enough to allow Sony and Nintendo to get their sh!t together.

To reverse your analogy maybe Sony should have put out the PS3 a couple of years ago sence the quality of their titles hasn't improved significantly over the years.

My minimum's next gen:

-60fps
-load times, if any, <1s
-crystal clear textures
-no slowdown
-no dropped frames
-no jaggies
-no pop-up
-no fog
-insane draw distance

I'll think of more later, that's just off the top of my head.

Far Cry Instincts....

If you honestly can't tell the difference in overall quality and clarity between Far Cy Instincts and the PD0 shots I posted (aside from the fact that FC shots are of higher quality than the console is going to be able to push), you have no business debating visual quality; the same goes for the guy who posted the Conker shots. For a detail example, just compare the features of the character in the PD0 shot to the corresponding features on the characters in the Far Cry shots; there is most certainly a significant difference there. If you're incapable of spotting that, then that's a problem with you, not the game.

Does it look like Gears of War? No, but it sure as hell doesn't look like an Xbox game either, and making that claim makes it near impossible to take anything you say before or after the statement seriously.

i think it was originally being developed for the xbox? maybe these are screens from that build? it will look better?

The PDO screen is a handcammed picture of a guy's friggin' back! :lol The parts of the model that would/could be complex are not even seen, and you want it compared to Far Cry models that show off faces, weapons, muscles, etc.

I don't think anybody would have a huge problem believing that PDO was an Xbox 1 title, given the advances of the past year and the look of titles like Far Cry. It may start looking better, but right now the leap doesn't seem particularly huge.

Shouldn't there be more of a difference than "image clarity" between different-generation games? PD0 could be running in 1600x1200 for all I care.....it still looks like an Xbox game.
