2 wheel GAF UNITE!

My parents were both pretty good about it when I first started learning, although concerned. My dad used to be a motorcycle cop back in the day and saw more than his share of accidents. Didn't stop him putting me and my brother on the back of his police motorcycle down to driveway :)

My fiance's mother is another story. My fiance is 35 years old and is hiding the bike and everything bike related. Mother-in-law comes around and everything goes into the locked garage (including mine).

Never mind the secret tattoos! Mothers never stop being mothers.

That is so true.... they will try there best to keep you from harms way does not matter how old you are

So ever since I moved to a new city (only 40 minutes from where I previously lived). I've been going to a ton of bike events. Pretty much every weekend theres a swap meet / garage party / shop opening / whatever. I've seen some really nice bikes lately. My favorite was probably this ducati darmah.

Few more bikes and my girlfriend.

I drove to work today instead of riding because I couldn't be bothered with the gear, and I haven't ridden the bike since I changed the coolant.

Got stuck in traffic on the way back and a 20 minute journey turned into an hour

To rub salt in the wound when I walked out of the building I could see the traffic at a standstill, and parked next to my prison car was a K1300R and a Hypermotard

Then a bloke on a Triumph Scrambler filtered past me

Yeah, 99% of the time.. We are rolling out a new system this week so I have actually had to dress up and go to work rather than fall out of bed directly into my home office

Tomorrow I am definitely riding, rain or shine.

I started watching the Motogp race this morning and man its full of action. I tought I was two races behind but I am only missing the last race. Not done with it yet. The little one kicked us out of bed this morning at 5 so I was watching it.

Tomorrow I am getting help fitting my GPS... I am so keen to start using my bike to go to clients as its just so much easier. This morning again if I was in the car it would have taken me more than an hour. On the bike it 20 min. Sweet

Which GPS have you got? I was thinking about the new TomTom Rider 400.

That new TomTom 400 got some really nice reviews. I got a pass down from my dad as his new GS came with the BMW GPS. I think its the Garmin Zumo 660. It came with the RAM mount and the cables. So going to get the guys to help out with the install as the R1200R has a bit different cable feeding areas. I will post a photo if its installed.

Am I the only one who feels like this when it starts to rain during a ride?

except when I am on my way to work and I'm not wearing rain gear

I'm the complete opposite, can't fucking stand it. Not because I'm getting wet, but all the sand and shit that's destroying my bike... Avoid it as much as I can.

Will only ride in the rain if I have to. I normally am out to ride quick, and rain keeps that from happening. Also gets me soaked, I can't see, and means I have to do more work to the bike when I get back.

Garmin 660 installed. Again excellent service and help form the guys at BMW Maidenhead. I only needed to get a GPS repair kit (plug converter) to connect directly into the loom and now the GPS is connected and using the CANBUS system.

Yeah I've read it's easy on the BMWs thanks to their Canbus system. Nippy Normans sells direct plug in cables, no splicing or anything needed.

My Harley went in for it's first service and I mentioned two small issues. Firstly when I got it it came with a KM/h speedo, so I wanted that swapped. They did, but with one with chrome trim (on my matte black bike). And then I mentioned at certain constant speeds (e.g. 50mph in 5th) it would splutter now and then, rolling on/off the throttle a bit corrected it. So they redid the tuning and now it's worse! Spluttering all through the range. Gah.

Do you have a proper tuner on the bike (fuel pak, power commander, power vision, etc?) or a dealer download? Dealer downloads are junk. They dont adjust timing and your bike that ran lean from the factory now runs even more lean after stage 1

Yeah, to be honest, I wouldn't really trust HD dealers with that kind of stuff. I'd try to find some specialist that really knows his/her way around Sportster engines or the tuning of them.

You wouldn't think it looking at their website, but Twin Motorcycles is excellent with that stuff. They even do mappings/tuning for customers abroad. (Based on certain engine / intake / exhaust specifications.) Couldn't hurt to ask them whether they've got an economically feasible way of helping you out.

Is it an analogue speedometer?

Might be similar to the crappy quality of the one I had on my Bonneville. A good squirt of lubricant in the cable that connects the speedo to the wheel used to clear that right up.. for a couple of months.

Yep. My personal preference from my Harley forums is fuelmoto. Buy the Power Vision 2 tuner from them and they provide maps. So any other upgrades you do are covered too. You just email them, tell them what you have and they pull a map for your setup based off of the thousands of dyno runs they have done.

Even cooler is after you auto tune or log a few runs send it back them and let them tweak to nail it down even more. Incredible customer service.

damn man that is not good news... my one is going in for a service on Thursday... and I only pay for the oil. What a bargain.

Hope you get it sorted out man

As soon as sears tells me they pulled my jack from the warehouse I'm gonna go pick it up and install my white walls and spoke rims.

I changed my oil yesterday. I was lazy so I just bought from the dealer. My only choices there were Dino oil for 7.99, Harley syn 3 blend for 13.99 or amsoil for 13.99 per quart. I went with amsoil. 4 quarts plus a filter was around 80 bucks. Next time my lazy ass will just drive somewhere else.

Oil is changed though. I'm good for another 2.5 months. Yay!

do you have to change the oil every two and a half months? Why is that?

Technically you're supposed to change it around 3k miles or 3 months, whichever comes first. Most people can ignore the time constraint because that's more about the potential for sludge and moisture to get in the oil, which isn't much of a problem when the motor is being run.

But shit, $80 for an oil change? I normally spend around $30, if that.

Well, the ZRX is giving me problems. Will start after sitting, but won't start if I shut it down when warm and then go to start it again. Can be a bunch of things, but I know it's not the battery itself since that's brand new.

It wouldn't bump start either, and the starter is working (pretty strong), but I'll add that to the list.

I've got two weeks left in the semester so it may have to sit for a little while I focus on finishing up school.

wow that is a tough schedule. Is this for all Harleys or just that model

I have the Screaming Eagle Super Tuner Pro (or whatever it's called) but no cables to set it up myself. I'm actually tempted to buy the V&H Fuelpak FP3 which you can manage from your phone, download maps, and autotune while you ride.

Went for another ride yesterday and it didn't seem so bad. Will give it a few rides and see if it smooths out a bit.

Oil every 3 months? I thought I was being anal changing it every year

When I had the Fazer the oil change interval was every 6000 miles... not every 6000 miles or 12 months, just every 6000 miles.

Working from a home office in riding season that's directly above the garage containing your bike requires a special kind of willpower

That's exactly my situation. With the window right in front of me with the sun streaming in, all whilst trying to do a months worth of expenses on the worst implementation of SAP known to man. All my receipts are now strewn across the floor.

Let's hope they price it to match the Ducati, and I'd be interested

Of course, what turned me off the scrambler was the cheap-feeling finish of everything compared to other retro-ish bikes in the price range (I was comparing it to the Bonneville and 883 in my mind), so maybe not.
