took it for a hundred mile morning thrash. OH GOD THE MIDRANGE. between 30-70 it is a teleporter. hauled it up to 100 on the freeway for a very short stint (WSP will make short work of any sunday mornin' bikers with sustained throttle spasms) just to hear the intake roar in 4th gear. :-O
did some light/mid twisties out by arlington/everett to start scrubbing in the tires proper-like. chick on a sportster xl1200 wanted to drag me offa light on hwy 9 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA FUCK YOUUUUUUUUU
quick thoughts:
- like all kwak's, the shifter needs a stern boot. normally, i'd whine, but I rode a friend's old r75 and uhhhhh now I have perspective. also, WORST MIRROR POSITION EVER. when i recover from the financial hit i am slappin' some rizoma spy bar ends on there (along with the rizoma lux grips).
- did i mention the intake howl on the i4 when you cross 7k? it's insane! the torque literally POURS on from 3k up to redline in ANY gear. i can pull away from a stop in 6th (with a little responsive feathering and a precise throttle opening). sick as HELL. that would NEVER happen on the f800 rotax mill EVER.
- rear brake is useless, although it's good enough for parking lot and hill low speed work. pretty much the same for any litre sport in my limited experience.
- won't try scrubbing chicken strips until the tires are clean, and the dunlop sportmaxes aren't the best. slinging the zed over takes a little more muscle than the zook or the beamer (duh), or maybe i just need to get more of a feel for the bike.
- so comfortable. 2 hours and NO tingling/numbness. people complain of buzziness on the ninja/z 1k and to them i say TRY RIDING A F800GT AT 4.5K

^ Yeah, 8.500 for a brand new Z1000 is really good. Over here you pay that same amount for a Z750, in euros. Looks great in orange as well 
. As for the buzzing with the F800, yes that was very noticeable, I'd say it's a bit of a problem considering that's the rev range that lines up just right with most hw speed limits, hehe.

Managed to save a nice deposit to get the starter porsche. Its a black Boxster 2.7 not the S, with 18inch classic wheels. I did allot of reading before I bought as there are some good ones and some problems ones. Its a 2004 model but in mint condition as the previous owner was a fan boy so everything is super clean. So far so good. Man I love the sound that flat 6 makes... its not difficult to choose what to go to work with haha

Oh that's great, congratulations. And they say it's more fun to drive than the 911 anyway, due to the fact it's mid-engined and therefore better balanced.

Cheers man... first time buying a car that is classed as sports car. I think of it as a starter porsche. Maybe later when I am older get a nice classic 911. They just look sweet.

Yeah... no used CBR500R's here and not shipping a used one from a private seller. And the 300ABS model used is a few $100 different in price than new. So we figured why not get new?
I know everyone says get used, you'll drop it... but meh.
They didn't break the bank and they'll resell well enough.Already put 100 miles on it. Still not confident enough to go on the highway just yet, but I'm dying to because up here we have ferries across the puget sound to go island hopping. I'm stoked to do that soon when I feel good with highway driving.

yeah, west side from skagit on down to st. helens is packed with lovely twisty roads, and the olympic peninsula is my favorite day trip. hop on the edmonds-kingston ferry, then roll onto the 101 and explore! 112 from port angeles to clallam bay is a good skill test, with multiple switchbacks and some truly dangerous corners.
Yeah, I'm in Bellevue. I'm up for a ride sometime.
Though right now I haven't even popped my highway cherry lol. Actually it's so nice out this week I'm taking a ride up to snoqualmie falls tomorrow morning with my friend.

However now I work from home I did less than 1000 miles on it last year, and they hold their value really well, I reckon I could get at least 3500 for it. That plus the value of my Yamaha and I could get a really decent, recent model Street 3.

They are an absolute joy to ride. Incredible brakes too. Can't possibly be a decision you'll regret anytime soon.

I think I'll takes some pictures later today (if the sun shows up) and stick them both up online for what I think they're worth, couldn't hurt. Triumph gave me a pretty decent part exchange offer on the Bonneville (as they are an easy sell for them), but wouldn't turn down more money. They both have 11 months MOT left so I guess now is as good a time as any to list..

I like having that specific bike, but you're right. It's pretty much their most popular model, they're going to be making them forever, and I could come back and get a Scrambler or something later if I chose.

Good to hear. I'm eying the area in the next couple years to move...going to visit this summer, actually.
I'm getting ready to move to a new apartment in a month so I'm not spending much of anything right now. If it works out cost-wise to be better I'll just have the side fairings re-painted as they're not cracked. So, I'd need a replacement tail piece and upper cowl. Right now the bike has a bit of Gorilla Tape holding it together lol. I took it riding this past Sunday...I'm freezing at the sight of shade/uneven color in corners now.
Pretty sure I'm going to replace my jacket...looking at one of the leftover Alpinestars GP Tech Air jackets. Also have to get another Arai Corsair V...sigh.

Sounds reasonable, have a similar housing issue that's keeping me from getting the new Buell completely up and running. It's halfway there though.

I don't think almost any helmet is worth paying full price for up front. A little digging around can net you a good deal. Hell, even developing a good relationship with the parts department at a shop can get you a discount. Arai can almost always be had for less. And yes, this helmet is worth it. So far it's the only top shelf helmet (and I've tried practically everything on by now) that fits me well. I have a weird head shape/size combination, it seems. My Haga Rainbow rep was like $650...going to be around that to replace it. If I go for the GP Tech Air jacket I'm not getting another red/white helmet, but probably back to a more monochrome look. Might even try and save even more and just go for black frost...no replica. Though I do like my crazy helmets. We'll see.

I put it up for £2100 which I think is fair. Actually its a great bike for the year in terms of mileage and condition, I got a steal when I bought it... But two bikes is too many for me right now, and I'm either going to sell them both and get a new one or sell this unfortunately. It's the only foxeye fazer up where I've listed it that's under 20,000 miles, so hopefully it'll generate some interest

I think somewhere between £3500 and £4000, haven't decided on a list price yet. I saw an identical miles/year bike up for £3500 on Auto Trader the other day, but it was a Category D write off
Realistically I should have around £5500 to spend on a new bike with a bit left over for a new lid, buys you a lot of Street Triple...
Just a heads up guys, always be be safe and never expect anyone else on the road to do what they should. Lost a fellow GStwins rider a few days ago to a rear end collision while stopped. Always be checking your mirrors when stopped and be prepared to move if needed.
I never thought I'd be hit by a death of someone I never actually met in person, but man, this dude was such a nice, helpful, informative guy and it's still hitting me that he's gone.

Damn man that is not good... yes its always good to think for all the people around you.
I can get a 2012 or 2013 used model for that too which is probably the way I'd go - as close to new as I'd probably bother on a bike!
That's awful, especially knowing that there's no way he was at fault. Good advice as I never really tend to think about collisions once I'm stopped

Completely just out of habit at this point whenever I'm at a stop light/sign I constantly jog the brake light.
Also when I know I'll be stopping or slowing significantly I strobe the brakes 5 times before actually starting to slow (dunno about most brakes, but I can engage the light without actually engaging the brakes with that first couple mm of play in the lever).
Which is not to say that it was this guy's fault. All it takes it some asshat staring at their phone on the way to a light, and no amount of brake light will save you. Truly unfortunate.
