So...assuming things stay the way they are, do the Yankees rest guys tomorrow, or do they go for the throat and try to keep the Sawx out of the playoffs?

:lol :lol The Yanks? Cutting Boston some slack???? :lol :lol :lol

Damn Bernie, you gotta make a play on those balls. :lol

Just figured I'd let everyone know that the ball Manny hit just landed in my pool... in south Florida.

Now's a great time for one of those big 9th innings.

Varitek single, Nixon single. Graffy Ks, Damon doubles, Nixon to 3rd, Tek scores, Edgar walks. Bases loaded for Papi

Edit: LOL, Tek single.

Congratulations you bastards. :)

Let's go win the Wild Card Boston.

Now wasn't the right time for us to break your hearts. We're waiting for the ALCS.

Once again, the same old formula played out. Yankees weak early in the season, build hopes for Sox fans, then turn it around and take the AL East when it's all said and done.

Year after year after year after year after year.

Good to see things are back to normal after last year's fiasco. :D

The Yankees won the division last year too. Didn't end well for them.

After the AL EAST victory at fenway:

it would be a travesty if this man did not win the MVP:

Maybe I'm mistaken (yeah right) but doesn't a Red Sox win tomorrow = 1 game playoff at Yankee Stadium?

You're not the "AL East" winners yet.

This Astros team even if they somehow dont choke this wc spot away, doesnt have the hitting to do shit in the playoffs. They're making Jerome Williams look like a cy young pitcher again, imagine what the Braves pitchers will do to them.

Ah...I forgot it defaults to a "non-game tiebreaker" if there's no real reason to play the game.

Well, that blows.

Well, let's hope the Sox don't try to pull a Cardinals with a bogus "Co-Divisionl Champs" like they did in 2001.

CARDINALS AND ASTROS SQUABBLE OVER FLAG

So, who won the National League's Central Division in 2001, anyway?

The St. Louis Cardinals or the Houston Astros?

Several Astros were upset when they saw that the Cards were displaying a 2001 NL Central co-championship banner. The Astros won the tiebreaker and are the real champions.

"I would think that they would have more serious matters than to be concerned with than something so trivial," Cards general manager Walt Jocketty said.

Both teams finished 2001 with 93-69 records. The Astros entered the 2001 post-season as the NL's top seed after beating the Cardinals in the final game of the season to win the season series 9-7.

"When we saw the Cards press guide, we scratched our heads," Astros GM Gerry Hunsicker said. "We were awarded the division championship and they were awarded the wild card. I think the commissioner's office should clarify it."

A defaced Cardinals media guide made the rounds of the Astros clubhouse with the words '2001 NL Central Division Co-Champs' modified to read `wild card.' The Astros also fly a banner in left field of Astros Field recognizing them as NL Central champs.

A Major League Baseball official called the scrap "silly" but added there is no definitive right or wrong in this instance.

"It's basically the wild card, but it's also co-champions," said vice-president of scheduling and club relations Katy Feeney. "Since the Astros had the better head-to-head record, they were determined to be the champs and the Cards the wild card for the post-season. But since they both had the same regular season record, they were both co-champs. Technically, the Astros get the champion title."

The St. Louis front office has a plaque that reads: "By virtue of having the highest percentage of games won in the NL Central, the lesser record versus co-champion Astros and better record of all second-place teams, the St. Louis Cardinals are hereby declared the 2001 Wild Card Champions and Central Division Co-champions of the NL."

JEROME WILLAMS for cy young!

Just lose already and put me out of my misery Astros,I dont want to watch Atlanta sweep us with shutouts.

:/

I guess the "Houston-itis" doesn't leave you even after living in NY for so long.

People here are all "OH MY GOD ASTROS WILL NEVER WIN A GAME EVER AGAIN"

Yes, I know our team can blow at times, but jesus, we've gone on two very very impressive runs the end of the last 2 years, although we've started off shitty the past 2 years.

Anyway, I think I'm just getting sick of all the people here at work who a month ago didn't give a rats ass about the Astros, now they're all like "WHY ARE YOU EVEN WEARING YOUR ASTROS CAP THEY SUCK". I'm just ready to go to game 4 with Backe vs whoever the Braves' 4th starter is to close out the series 3-1 and I can buy my NLCS tickets vs the Cards for games 3,4 or 5.

Hows this,im just flat out sick of Astros teams never winning a WS title, hell im sick of the fact they cant even get there, this has nothing to do with Houston-itis.I'm grounded in reality,I love the fact that you keep a positive spin on things, sometimes you take it too far,but I was like you years ago and it did me no good....shit I was right with you up to game 7 last year and that fucking hurt BAD.Call me your typical fair-weather Houston fan,but when you have had to deal with it for 20 something years it starts to wear thin.

I have visions of Oilers dancing in my head.

PS- I would love to eat all my words this Oct....I hope you are 100% right.

No, I'm not necessarily calling YOU a fairweather fan. Just your freaking out + everyone here at work (probably about 95% from the people at work) that are like "AHHHHHHHHHH BRUCE AUSMUS STRUCK OUT AGAIN. Why Eddie Bruntlett start over that guy next to Biggio?" and "Why isn't bagwell starting?"

I dunno. :(

I didn't mean to lash out. <3

<---BAGGY!

My issue is more from the fact I see these amazing starting pitchers we have and we never give them any run support,41 year old pitching his ass off after hes been injured and we have given him only 3 runs against Jerome Williams, this is the 2nd game where we just couldnt hit this guy and we know a 2 run lead isnt always enough with our pen.

It just flat out pisses me off sometimes.

I feel your pain. It's so painful to watch Houston teams sometimes. For instance that 35-0 Oiler collapse. I was crying that whole day. I think I'd of rather had a dagger in the back and go through something like that again.

I was crying that day too and too top it off it was my damn bday :( WHAT A GIFT!

Thank god Lidge bounced back from that fluke game yesterday.

No matter what we have a one game playoff with the Phillies if we lose and they win tomorrow.....but Roy-O and the O will make me eat my words.

"Damn. Never thought I'd say this, but I hope the yanks win.

Boston fans have become worse than yankee fans as far as I'm concerned."

What?! Please ook in this thread who is resorting to vulgar language to the other team.

"I love how the home plate ump is trying his level best to give the Bosox an edge--I can see why Johnson's so pissed. Last night was even more blatant: "Hello, Wang. You're a sinkerball pitcher that lives off the low strike. Instead, we shall take it away completely, making you elevate and throwing you off completely!" See: Year high in walks, sac fly.

I just wish they wouldn't be so blatant."

I doubt you've played baseball, and being completely biased to one side makes it hard for you to see that a variety of factors played into the way was being called today, especially the fact that sun/shade differences make it very hard to call. Plus, Wakefield was also having a problem getting strikes called as well. It wasn't just Johnson.

You know, Gregg Maddux has never done anything to benefit the Phillies. Well he's got a chance tomorrow to make it to my good list. My boy Oswalt also has a chance to make me like him more...by sucking. The Cubs better win, cause I've got playoff tickets(I'm just assuming the Phillies will win Monday if there is a playoff game between the Phils and Astros, even though If thre is one thing I've learned this year is to never assume).

GO CUBS!
GO PHILLIES!
