This is going to be awesome, the Cubs are going to lose to the rockies at home. I guess when it rains, it pours :lol

Cubsfan i admire you, at least you stick by your team no matter how horrible they are. That is true loyalty, too bad its wasted on the cubs :lol

Go yankees, go brewers

ha, of course we start playing these shitty road teams when they're bound to win a game or two. I'm actually looking forward to the countdown to 100 years.

Uh, how about his actual stats?

24 R, 6 HR, 25 RBI, .300 BA in 170 AB extrapolates out roughly to 80 R, 20 HR, 80 RBI for the season. Also note that Beltran's career average is around .280, so I expect that to dip down as well. Beltran is ETREMELY overrated. I'd rather have Bobby Abreu or even Andruw Jones.

Am i missing the Jays game? They air them on The Score now or something?? It seems like it's been 4 or 5 days since one of their games was on TV, and it's not like they're playing KC or the Devil Rays. :P

Beltran only has an .814 OPS, which isn't bad but isn't that great either. He is getting paid $17 million a year to put up average numbers for an OFer.

And I don't think his numbers this year are because of him slumping or anything. I think an .814 OPS is about what we can expect from Beltran as a Met for most of his contract. His career numbers have been inflated because he has played in nothing but great hitter's parks his entire career. KC was as good of a hitter's park as Arlington when Beltran was there, and then he went to Houston, another great hitter's park.

There is no way in hell Beltran is worth close to what the Mets paid him. Mets were suckers and paid him based on a handful of playoff at bats last season.

The NESN (New England) feed is on one of the channels Rogers uses to promote a Jays ticket offer :)

W0000000000.

I would like to thank two people, nay, friends on GAF. Captain McBlack for keeping the faith with me even through the bad times. And the... wonderful Fifty, who not only features KID WONDERFUL himself as his avatar, but also provided his team with enough of a moral push to sweep the Red Sox.

Gentlemen, I salute you.

I really hope we get at least 2 of 3 this weekend. We're still a full game out of the wildcard.

.

You're quite welcome
I hope you guys sweep the Sox. However...if the Jays lose, the KW avatar goes...and it's clear that it's what's bringing you such good fortune, so it's in your best interest for the Jays to keep winning! :D

Get Peter Gammons on the phone. You're not going to get us to say that we're over achieving! ;p

I think they're playing up to their potential, not playing better than it. Sure the Red Sox played worse than they "should" have, but we took advantage of that and deserved the wins. The next weeks will obviously show what we're made of, since we play 13 away games in 14 nights after this friday-sunday series. Tomorrow it's Josh Towers vs Santana, and if we win that....oh boy. Don't even expect a post from me, because I'll be out drinking to the magical Control Towers.

I'll be at work :(

But I will be happy if they win

Texas on a 6 game win streak! Hot hot! Gonna have to face the white hot sox though next..

Let's go R A N G E R S !

Keep that team ERA under 6!

I meant more in terms of drawing that conclusion after two months with no one hitting behind him until recently.

Moreso, I think you're missing the bigger picture in terms of worth. He's worth that money to a franchise who can afford to pay him that money and needed desperately to draw people to the park again. Same for Pedro. The two of them have made the Mets relevant again. 17 million to the Mets is not the same thing as it would be for, say, the Reds or the Astros. Or even the Cubs. When the Mets are good they draw very well, and having a merchandising face to throw up on billboards and sell shirts matters too. Not to mention the new cable network the Mets will have in 06, they need marquee players for the value of the network. Regardless of whether you feel he's marquee, in a town like NYC he is; he's Puerto Rican and good-looking. Pedro, Dominican. Go to any Met game in which he pitches and a huge chunk of the upper deck is waving Dominican flags and cheering wildly.

These sorts of considerations aren't really important in a town where there's one baseball team and basketball and hockey are irrelevant. The Mets compete against the Yankees, and to a lesser extent the other sports teams.

The two of you seem to argue the same way every time against Met fans: that we all approve every move the Mets make. Every Met fan I know thinks the Wilpons are shitheads and the jury's out on Minaya until he makes a deal that shows acumen rather than outbidding. We all loathed the Zambrano for Kazmir deal and thought Benson was way overpaid. I also don't know any Met fan who actually believes that dollar-per-stat, Beltran or Martinez are worth that dough but as I said, we have reason to cheer again which we haven't since Piazza was handing Clemens his lunch on a regular basis and Bobby V was sneaking back into dugouts in his Groucho glasses.

I'm proud to be a Met fan, which many on this board wouldn't get considering they've been spoiled by teams who are constantly in contention. In addition, coming from Braves fans it makes me laugh considering you can't even sell out your own playoff games (your GM has to beg you by handing out free tickets), you get swept out of every first round series you get into, and what fans do show up cheer inbred, savage racists like Rocker (I've been to seven games down there after his comments and he got cheered massively every time he came in to pitch).

As I've said, don't lump me in with Kuryome.

This weekend will be a big one for the Yanks. If they dominate, I'll pray to high lord Thurman Munson to forgive my doubt.

As a neutral who hates both teams, I'm hoping to watch a boxing match and have a baseball game break out at some point.

haha. should be a good series. :)
hopefully McCarthy can pitch as well for us tonight as he did against the scrubs.

Supposedly Prior drove himself to the hospital to get X-rays.

Hopefully this is good news and the injury looked worse than it is.

That loss sucked. The only positives were that we lost to the best pitcher in baseball (that isn't named Halladay) and that Josh Towers managed to set a club record with 14 hits. They had 16 total hits. I thought they'd reach 20, but I guess the Twins aren't that good after all. :lol

Oh yeah, and KW has to go. Sorry Yankee fans. Watch your team lose the next 2!

WOOO! Bout time we had back 2 back wins. Nice to see that leaving Antonio Perez at 3rd is paying off quite well so far. Izturis bouncing back with another multiple hit game after being 0-5 last night. Good game

Too bad to see the White Sox young gun superstud pitcher get rocked today.

At least you have Garland tomorrow, who's been a stud all year.

We've got the Ho. You know, one of the worst free agent signings in recent history. Too bad I'm stuck in New Jersey all day, can't watch my Rangers =(

Yeah, it was a bit dark in the beginning, but I wouldn't be a real Bomber booster if I quit early. Besides, I've been waiting for this thread since lurking it for the entirety of the 2004 playoffs. The MLB thread's the reason I joined GAF. :P

As for Fifty...removing the avatar will only make KW angry. You don't wanna see what the Kid does when he's pissed the fuck off. :lol
