I'm turning in my Cubs fan badge, could a mod change my name to UofLfan23? Thanks.

Ok! See you in a few weeks after you guys get a series sweep and the bangwagon is off again.

Braves picking up a game and a half on the Nationals in one day is nice...their freakish success is really annoying.

Cubs bad luck is transpiring over to MVP baseball as well! :/

Prior is starting against the Nationals. Going well. 5th inning comes up and a rocket comes back up the middle and hits him in the head! Knocks him out of the game with a concussion! After the game is over I find out he is out 28 days! Ugh!

mrbob and cubsfan, i leave you until the next sox start(7:05 pm friday) to call me on my option.

$9 on the better record betweeen the sox/cubs record. you'll each save $1. that's like, a half gallon of gas.

And Patterson strikes out to end the game. Fitting ending.

And then he was sent to AAA! My 38th pick in one of my fantasy teams....a player all the shmantasy experts thought would finally be a 5 tool star...in AAA.

ATLANTA -- The Chicago Cubs decided Corey Patterson needed a change.

The Cubs optioned Patterson and outfielder Jason Dubois to Triple-A Iowa after Thursday's game, and purchased the contracts of outfielders Adam Greenberg and Matt Murton from Double-A West Tenn.

"Obviously, we're not going well and we're not here to point fingers at these guys, especially Corey, that it's their fault," Cubs general manager Jim Hendry said after the team lost its eighth straight game. "Corey's been in a funk and we're not helping him by having him try to get out of it under these conditions.

"I think it's better that he can clear his head and spend a lot of time working on the stuff he and [hitting coach Gene Clines] have been trying over the last four days, and hopefully it'll click," Hendry said. "For his own good, and our good long-term, it seems like the right thing to do."

Patterson declined to talk to reporters after Thursday's game. The 25-year-old center fielder was batting .232 with 11 home runs and 24 RBIs. He started the season well, hitting .284 in April, and followed that with a .273 average in May.

Jose Reyes, take a bow...you are no longer the worst high profile leadoff man in baseball! Cubs fans, had they tried moving Corey around in the order often? I've only seen him starting leadoff this year...Wouldn't that have been a good idea? (Now I've probably missed his other starts, so I'm ready to be wrong here)

. And yeah, patterson was only batting leadoff recently.

I had only seen him at the 1 spot all season though. Had they moved him around earlier? I guess a strikeout's a strikeout anywhere in the order though ;p I don't mind the Cubs as a team, the only reason I love pointing out your (oh so many) flaws is because you guys talk so much shit when you're winning :lol

last year he had a completely similar funk, only he hit out of it. this year he's just fucking fantasy teams with no end in sight.

i appreciate podsednik so much more now

Patterson sent to AAA? A day late and a dollar short. Hey maybe we can go on one of those massive runs like the Disastros did last year. I remember them being 8-9 games out of the wild card spot before going on a huge tear. And that was *after* the all star break.

BELIEVE! :(

Now, Dusty, PLEASE STOP PUTTING NEIFI IN THE NUMBER ONE SLOT!

I for one am NOT going to drop Patterson from my fantasy team. Even though all evidence and common sense suggests otherwise, I still have to believe that he can pull his head out of his ass in a few weeks and become the player he was hinting at last year (good avg, some power, some speed). Sure, he's been a disaster so far and nothing about his play or his team's luck says he'll get better, but I have to trust in blind faith.

Oh fuck. Ignoring reality, blind faith, desperately clinging to the illusion of hope.... is this making me into a Cubs fan too?? :( :( :(

Hmm...

Hokkaido team links with Marlins

SAPPORO (Kyodo) A baseball club in Hokkaido has joined hands with the Florida Marlins for the first tie-up agreement between a Japanese amateur team and a major league organization.
Chitose Baseball Club Hokkaido announced the deal with the Marlins on Thursday, under which it will form a new team called the Hokkaido Marlins and take part in a minor-league training camp of the Marlins organization.

Tetsuro Hirose, a former Nippon Ham Fighters player, has been named manager of the Hokkaido Marlins, who are scheduled to hold a player tryout in August prior to participation in a regional amateur league.

After the moves today made by the Cubs, I have forseen the future.

Cubs have 78 games left and they will go 58-20 in those 78 games. Finishing with a 98-74 record!

:lol
Cubs have to cheat to get 98 wins! They need an extra 10 games!

98+74 = 172!

Astros will win 93 games, we'll beat the Cubs by percentage points :lol
93/162 = .574
98/172 = .569

My god I actually think Victor Zombrano is turning into a pitcher now. He's given up 4 or fewer runs the last 12 starts, holy shit. He's throwing a 1 run gem of a game over 8 innings now:lol

Though I would still rather have Kazmir back though:( Atleast the future is bright with Pelphrey,Petit, and Humber coming up within the next 2 years.
