How is RadeonPro able to differentiate between where to use FXAA and SMAA in order to achieve optimal results, without being detrimental to overall image quality/performance?

It doesn't.

Pick one or the other. They're not meant to be used in tandem. FXAA for if reducing aliasing is more important to you than clarity of image, SMAA otherwise. FXAA + lumasharpen (in the SweetFX suite) can work just as well. There's no reason to switch between the two.

SMAA is far better for not creating blurry-as-shit IQ than FXAA IMO. FXAA is orright if you're downsampling though. But FXAA and sharpening probably wouldn't look that crash hot as you're sharpening something that's already been blurred out (again, IMO).

Trying some downsampling from 2560x1440. Looks awesome in-game and I have it locked at a solid 30 fps.

So I bought GTA 4 in the Steam Sale yesterday and modding that game is.... strange.

This is the first time a texture pack that imo looks better than vanilla gave me a 10fps increase õ_o

And then you have to fear strange things like that taxi-bug (which made me stay away from car mesh and density mods).

Well thanks to that texture pack I can now enjoy the game with an average of 30-40fps.

Took those screens without AA but changed to 1xSMAA since then, still horrible bit I cant go higher.

This is also the first game in wich I enjoy the "black bars", fits it really well.

Reposting these from the mod thread.

Reinstalled with some derfent mods. Constant 45-75 FPS so far... And so I will go further tomorrow and we'll see if we can get this baby even deeper.

Which ENB are you using? I can't find a good preset that I like. Care to post your current modlist?

10/10 avatar, btw.

Those character textures are so ridiculous. Looks like their skin has been sprayed with water and glitter.

They have :D
Using the Fair skin complexion and Sweaty body.
I never used it before for obvious reasons, but I decided to do mods I'd never use this time. I actually ended up likeing them. In certain light it's hard to see, but in caves and such it makes some more sense.

Nine out of ten orphans can't tell the difference.
Why improve things when you can just cut out everything cool and make a corridor shoot-bang?

Mass Effect 1 is amazing, it's not some rosetinted glasses - I'm well aware that from a gameplay perspective they definitely improved on it in ME2 ( haven't played 3, can't pay me to play that ) but shockingly I never played ME for the gameplay.

Yup. The tone of the series is pretty much on par with the evolution of the soundtrack.

From:

this or this

to this

and finally to this complete turn-around from the ambience of ME1

I can just imagine Bioware telling Jack Wall in ME2 and Sam Hulick in ME2/3: "The music needs to be more EPIC!!"

agreeing with everyone here that despite it's gameplay flaws, the first mass effect was the most engaging. i loved exploring the planets with the mako just to see the different environments like the binary star system above.

If you noticed in the Third game, it's like they hired JJ Abrams or Michael Bay for the cinematography. The music reflects a movie rather than a game or an aesthetic

YOU SIR, ARE AWESOME!

Listening to "Vigil" and looking at those two screenshots at the same time gave me the most awesome goosebumps I've EVER had!

There's a better piece of the score than Vigil and sadly I've never been able to recall it. It isn't even an entire piece unto itself, but it gave the most classic sci-fi vibes of any game ever. I guess I've got an excuse now to play the game again...
