Far Cry 3?

EDIT: Ah. I see your double post on the Far Cry 3 Performance thread. I was being genuine when i was asking what game it was. i'm actually playing Far Cry 3 at the minute funnily enough, but wasn't certain if that's what game it was.

Crazy how Crysis is still the best damn looking game overall five years later. It's been outclassed in specific areas, sure, but overall, it hasn't been beat in my opinion.

And really, screenshots are only half the picture. The way everything moves in that game is still breathtaking.

I really do not get the praise for crysis. outside of the first few areas it gets real tedious real fast and the graphics don't really look that great anymore. pretty average game

That last pic almost looks like it's a still from a sci-fi movie.

...pretty average game

I don't think you know what that word means. That would constitute that Crysis, upon release, was of ordinary quality with regards to its peers. The game is anything but. Call the story shite, the game itself boring or that (like you put it yourself) you "don't get it" but nothing about the gameplay or visual aesthetics themselves is average.

What the FUCK happens in Crysis? I thought Crysis was some dudes fighting some dudes and theres some ridiculous alien looking tech going on there.

In Crysis some dudes are fighting some other dudes over some random Island because of "classified" and then BOOOM alien invasion.

I really think Crytek nailed alien aesthetics better than 90% of the scifi games out there with the zero gravity interiors in the ships, sqid like aliens and those extreme fights.

Too bad they werent as fun to fight as the human ai was and Crytec fucked up the aesthetics in Crysis 2.

That said I just reinstalled Crysis to try out all the awesome mods but Im unable to downsample the game on Win8 (remember it worked without a flaw before) and cant get xzeros shaders to work at all, crushed blacks, shadow stripes, flickering and other graphical glitches everywhere when I usel them.
I have no idea what Im doing wrong. (deleted both cache files)

Edit:
Well I was about to post some screens to show the problems but it seems it works now all of a sudden...
Sadly there are some very strange pupups and lod glitching going on now (some grass has the lod problem and interiors have a lot of the popup Problem)
also I prefer the vanilla dof to Xzeros shaders.

Just realized I cant even take nice screenshots because FRAPS and other apps wont work with dx10 on Win8 and crysis seems to be determined to save jpegs.

When you put mods on Crysis it surpasses even Crysis 2. It's ridiculous how much detail is in the game world.

And yeah, Crysis does aliens better than any other game. The art design was amazing. Too bad they became generic in the sequel.

The alien level is one of my favorite FPS levels ever.

It's odd, first time through I kinda hated that level but for each subsequent playthrough I enjoy it more and more to the point where it really has grown on me.

Probably the last batch of Crysis pics I'm sure people are sick enough, besides I've gotten to the VTOL level and there's a level I can't even be bothered to play.

I never understood why people compained about this level until I watches some videos of it on Youtube. The reason why I never undestood was because that I played it "wrong", and just flew in a straight line through the level, ignoring any objectives. Didn't even realize there were objectives other than get to the carrier, never fired a single shot. For me the level only lasted around 2 min :)

Even playing it correctly, it doesn't last any longer than 10 minutes. It's literally a waste of time.

There's just nothing decent about that level when I think of it... even with god mode on I was bored to death with it. The VTOL controls like a drunk squirrel, there are randomly placed tornadoes placed here and there and like scitek says it's just a waste of time even if done right...

Ok... now I'm done, I trudged through that level and finished the finalboss and all that, crysis would've been a much better game without the final 5-10% of the game. Final, final batch :

I don't understand how loving the way this game looks justifies posting more than two pictures at once *and* posting them in JPG. If you loved them, wouldn't you post them at full size with minimal compression? And two per post?

Wording was a little ambiguous in the OP, I didn't want to make more than one post. I had more than 2, so I just decided on the latter and used thumbnails that were click-able to full resolution. Sorry, not sure what OP meant by the last part if what I was doing was against thread rules. Also, wasn't up for replaying the entire game just yet to retake certain screenshots in slightly better quality. Dark Souls is a hard game and there is no such thing as multiple saves.

The first post:

  • Limits: 2 screenshots per post. If you have more than 2, make more posts or use thumbnails.
  • Naming: Always include the name of the game with the screenshots.
  • Compression: Don't compress your screens or use a host that compresses them (Steam, Imgur).

Ah, I apologise then... I didn't know about the thumbnail thing (though it's potentially arguable whether your screens were technically "thumbs" or not), but I am sincerely sorry for my tone. I just like seeing a page full of big-arse screens!

FWIW, I usually prefer the two per-post thing because it keeps me from posting too many of the same game in a row (or at least, more conscious of it). And if you can, use 24-bit PNG for saving as that doesn't have any compression (or is minimal enough that it cannot actually be noticed in the slightest). Abload.de is usually the preferred host from what I can tell.

And for actually taking screens, almost everyone uses Fraps. Take multiple shots from in-game without having to exit out or whatever.

PS. Please stick around! Don't let one gruff, anally retentive poster spoil your screen-posting fun :)

Everyone let's pile on Shaneus and make him feel bad... and hopefully in the process, get him to change to his old avatar.

Running the game in dx9 got rid of all my problems.
And as far as I can tell there is absolutely no difference to dx10 anyway.

playing crysis 1 makes you wonder why games have not made any (graphical) progress in the last 5 years.
The textures etc. are not even what makes the game so stuning in motion its how everything reacts to its surroundings, branches swaying because of explosions and bullets, trees colapsing in heavy fire, leaves that get pushed out of the way by cars, npc´s and the player instead of clipping through.

I want to see at least that much when next gen hits, there is simply no excuse if games dont start looking like that when developers arent restricted by old ass console hardware.

The story and character design starts out pretty off-putting.

Haha, yeah I was pushing the limits of what you could consider a "thumbnail." I do have fraps, just kinda slipped my mind to use it while I was playing through Dark Souls.

No malice taken--I did post jpg's... That was already strike one. I'm sure I'll still be checking back on this thread as my PC is my main gaming machine and enjoy what other people post ;). One of the few reasons I built my PC in the first place!

I know it's been around for a while and it technically isn't a game, but I'll be damned if it doesn't look impressive. Also runs pretty well on my 7970s, especially considering it was made for Nvidia cards.

Your graphics are messed up, mine is the same way. Nothing is clear. This is how it should be I believe.

Either of those look way clearer. You can see a red outline/double on everything in your pics.

I have yet to find a way to fix it myself.

Btw, could you tell me where you got that widescreen hack from?
