Pretty rubbish when the developers can't even implement it properly :p

Well cutscenes are the one thing in games that have the tendency to break when the FOV is changed (like the seems start to show) so I can't really blame them for that. I'm just glad they did eventually push out an official fix that makes the gameplay part feel so much better.

wow Rage doesn't look that good. I guess Carmack lied or something about megatextures.

Are you high? Rage looks fucking incredible. Light cel shading, incredibly organic landscape, awesome performance. It is a jawdropping game in motion. Idk what's wrong with his screenshots but Rage is gorgeous.

And megatextures are a technique to apply texturing directly to objects for the artists, not magic.

Yeah I like the way Rage looks as well. The lack of dynamic shadowing does give it an odd appearance in parts but the artists did their jobs well and largely overcame that (in a similar fashion to Mirror's Edge). And it helps it to run very smoothly.

So there is no magic trick to make the textures look better I guess?
Actually, you can.
Just tweak the .ini files, now I don't remember precisely how, google it, set the texture from 2048 to 4096 or 8192 or even 16384 (depends on you vRam budget).
They will not look like Crysis, but non even like garbage.

Looks great. Any way to tell me what all you did to it? Mine is way too bright when I use ENB.

Also, I'm having a tough time installing weapons. Any tips?

You need to use the tool SparkIV to import them into the weapons file and replace whatever.
Its really simple and there are lots of guides.

Have you played the game? The texture quality is unacceptably inconsistent.

Doesn't matter. At ALL. It is a wonder to see in motion. So what if a few textures are shitty? Have you played the game at high res, full 8k textures, fully maxed on a nice PC? Wow. Gorgeous game.

I agree it's a nice looking game, except for the Dead City or whatever it's called. The compression artifacts visible there really sour the experience.

As far as I'm concerned, yes, Rage looks good in motion and 60FPS is a godsend. Some vistas are amazing. But whenever you get close to anything it totally falls apart.

Rage look okay-ish in panoramas with lots of distant objects but no matter how you tweak it the textures up close are still very weak.

This is a drawback of megatexture that wasn't explained much (if at all). The problem with using higher resolution textures in MT is that due to MT providing almost completely unique textures for everything in the game's world you'll run out of storage (DVD/BD/HDD) and VRAM much faster than you would with ordinary non-megatextured engines. So MT is effectively trading textures resolution in a scene for textures variety.

Could anyone spot Adaptive Vsync flag in the newest version of Nvidia Inspector? I can't seem to find it, only the 1/2, 1/3 or 1/4 of refresh rate options.

Yes actually, I have.

I'd rather have higher fidelity than having variety, cause chances are I won't notice it.

But whenever you get close to anything it totally falls apart.
This is why I hate it. Lots of times you get close to things.

Funny thing, both of you are right. One thing though, I think Rage has a very strong design which helps with overseeing those graphical shortcomings. However, it's quite more corridor shooter than open world and in the corridors the shortcomings matter a lot more..the engine would probably be nicer for New Vegas or the likes. I don't know.

Nine out of ten orphans can't tell the difference.
I still think the opening area of Crysis 2 has some of the best looking parts of the game

The more I play the game and the more I tinker with it to get it to look the way I want the more I genuinely think it's the technically best looking game.
