2012 High-Res PC Screenshot Thread of Don't Use Imgur

one of the better shooters i've played this gen, campaign is a solid, globetrotting 10hrs and has some cool moments. plenty of opportunities for stealth gameplay, the last mission especially was a blast

most of the performance woes have been resolved with the 1.4 update although there are still hiccups here and there - would recommend giving it a shot once its on sale and more updates have been thrown out there

They really added a lot of things graphically speaking compared to the stale console versions.

I hope that AC 3 on PC gets a similar treatment (parallax mapping, god rays, tessellation, Gi, better HDR/motion blur), with better optimization this time around.

yeah i was surprised, just a shame they forgot to do any QA for it because a lot of people said it was basically unplayable for weeks after launch, even now it has a few minor issues.

just another reason not to go day one i suppose -
*has AC3 digital deluxe edition on pre-order*

Am I totally crazy to be reminded of the Sword of Truth books by the Dark Souls screenshots? I keep seeing the deep dungeon/tower shots and it makes me think of the castle tower down to the well or whatever.

Fuckin SHIT Dark Souls looks amazing.

Weird. I was actually thinking the exact opposite just now. In fact, before I bothered to look up what game it was, my thought was "wow, this looks bad." I thought it was like a game like Gothic or something.

Not sure I understand the appeal of the visuals. I get that it's apparently a great game and all, and the screenshots are nice, but, uh... based on the weakness of those visuals, I don't really understand the praise for visuals it's getting.

It was expected to be the worst looking game of the year, so seeing it keep up with Skyrim in some cases is impressive.

Technically you are completely right, and Dark Souls is sub par compared to many other games. However, the game has a great atmosphere and art direction. If you happen to have a screenshot that shows off these great things, the game can look amazing since it looks very different from other console games and is the only game that can communicate such unease in the player as an RPG.

Also, it was traditionally a console only game and this version is a huge step up compared to that. After that there was a very lousy PC port, but now by fan support it looks much better than before.

Maybe there are some other pictures I should be looking at, because the stuff on this page doesn't tingle my aesthetics sense. The Ghost Recon stuff at the very top of the page perked me up a lot more.

Different strokes, I guess?

Sorta, but the lack of Richard breaks the illusion :P

You'll have to see it in motion to appreciate it, I feel.

I also think it looks pretty poor in those screenshots, but while playing, I actually think it's quite the looker. Also note that it uses object based motion blur, features great animation, and lots of physics (smashing through barrels is fantastic).

I think Dark Souls looks quite good in many of the screenshots in the last few pages but it may be a case of me being unable to separate my feelings for the game, my expectations of how it was going to look prior to the fix, my hundreds of hours with the PS3 version, my appreciation for the games art style (especially when it comes to character armor designs) and the fact that I know what it looks like in motion. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not great at taking screenshots myself and I usually do a disservice to the games I try to show off.

Question for you guys. I use a folder with my screenshots in it as my wallpaper on my PC and have it set to change images every 5 minutes. Do any of you know how to make it so the pictures aren't compressed when they show up as a desktop image?

I know for a fact that windows 7 creates a compressed JPEG of my PNG files to show them on my desktop. Just wondering if there was an easy workaround.

Yeah, I've wondered this as well for quite some time now. I heard you could fix it but you had to do it every time Windows changed wallpaper (I'm hooked on the randomize-wallpaper-every-10-mins-feature).

Have Ubisoft PC versions really been that great lately? What other ones?

Unfortunately, GW2's bloody awful field of view (something like 60-70 degrees horizontal) makes taking screenshots incredibly difficult. There are very few things I can actually get to fit into the entire screen. Actual landscape shots are always a matter of compromise.

I'd go into windowed mode and increase the aspect ratio to compensate, but I can't stand seeing my desktop in the background while I play. Just doesn't work for me.

Anyways, here's what I got.

It really looks amazing- but my GTA SA RAGE keeps crashing after about 20 minutes or so... are you getting stable performance? The screens are beautiful.

Thanks! I only got into SA modding recently and am quite happy with how everything is running now, performance is fine on my 7850.

I haven't looked into GTA4 modding yet as vanilla does not run that great on my rig when maxing out the settings. :( GTAIV San Andreas is on my list though.

FtsH can you post only one shot of those panaramic shots? Totally lags in Chrome since it's like 3 images in one.

I was using chrome forever, until 2 days ago when I tried IE9. For some reason, IE9 on my computer is much faster than chrome, by a long shot actually. These panoramic shots loaded very quick on this browser (x4 965 @3.8 and 7970)
