2012 NBA Feb |OT2| Kobe Bryant is a MAN

Many studies I've seen say that public financing for arenas/stadiums is generally a bad idea because most wind up with localities swimming in debt and less of a base to pay for it. The places where it does work are where the owners are willing to pay for the stadiums anyway since they can make money.

The 1990s and 2000s saw lots of cities build stadiums and arenas they couldn't afford then and still are failing to pay off. A lot of them were built without major tenants planned but for the hope they could attract them and it would lead to all this economic boom.

NY Times article on the debt left over: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/08/sports/08stadium.html?_r=1&src=twt&twt=nytimes&pagewanted=all

In California this kind of lunacy wasn't isolated to sports facilities, sadly. I'm pretty sure the next 2-3 generations will be paying off California Redevelopment Agency bonds issued decades ago to enrich a small number of people.

I like how pheenix keeps trying to casually distance himself from heat-age to prevent his snitch instincts from taking over.

Kara. Come back. UCLA can't love you like we can.

If the Hornets move to Seattle, do they switch divisions with OKC?

They should, and before commenting on that, let me just say that i like the fact that the Kings will stay in Sacramento.

I would never wanted to get my team back at the expense of the Kings. They were rivals, and altough they were originally from KC, they did have some history in SAC.

I doubt the devil will sell us the Hornets, but it would be the best solution possible. Give back the Hornets name to Charlotte, because that´s where it belongs, get the SuperSonics back in Seattle, and the only hole in this is New Orleans, but they stole a team from Charlotte not too long ago, so i can´t really feel much for them. I know Shinn is the one to blame, but still.

I just don´t think of New Orleans as an NBA city, unless the league wants to expand to 32 teams.

But that´s juts a bunch of what if´s, and TBH, i think the Grizzlies are the ones in most danger.

Am I the only one in Heat-Age that thought Wade's foul was a dick move? With that said its not intentional and Kobe will probably take it out on us this Sunday

It was just such a .... bizzare foul.

Why go for the hard foul in an exhibition game? That early too?

Totally uncalled for really.

Though i don't think he meant to get him on the face.

The last few pages have been a solid read. It's always fun seeing the intellectually challenged ClovingSteam get destroyed by his peers.

Destroyed? How so?

Rodeo said it was one way or the other. Cloving disagreed saying it's not as simple as black and white. They discussed.

CommonSense tried to floss by telling them to take their basketball-related conversation elsewhere, to which people took offense. He pulled the 'my daddy' card and got called on it.

Wade then broke his nose.

He probably doesn't want to be seen as a "pussy" for apologizing. Sounds like 90% of the guys here in Miami

It's been crazy watching Wade transform through the league. I remember when he was just a surprising combo guard. So humble. Then he got that Finals MVP and everything started to change :(

Yeah, the CRA's were this kind of clusterfuck turned up to eleven with an existing pension problem also headed to eleven.

That whore Gabrielle Union's STD's must have a side effect that causes douchiness.

Stern knew that Lakers vs Heat would be a snoozefest, he ordered his boy to rough Kobe up a bit to make him made.

Now everybody has something to talk about, otherwise it would have been "How many pts will Heat win by this time?

Most sports figures are major douches. Wade, Jordan, Lebron, etc. When you're making millions of dollars and have a bunch of yes men and women it makes someone feel like they're untouchable.

Lebron? That guy would cry if he saw you call him that. I don't think he deserves to be on that list at all. Really, no one deserves to be on a list with Jordan, save maybe Charles Oakley.

Shaq has a new interview out, its awesome:

On his role at Inside the NBA: I'm at a low C. I'm learning and will only get better. I just want to keep people entertained. I don't want to be talking with the big vocabulary and all that bullshit. I'm short and to the point. I'm very educated and can give you somewhat of a vocabulary, but I don't get to the philosophical side.

VIBE: Some sportswriters think you underachieved because you only won one MVP.

Shaq: Steve Nash is my boy, but I don't see how the fuck he got it twice. I was taught never to complain because you can't beat the system. People know who the real dominant guy was. But Steve Nash, I don't want to say it because you might print it and it might cause problems. I don't believe he beat me out twice.

VIBE: The trash talk against Sacramento worked. Peja Stojakovic and Doug Christie missed open threes down the stretch.

Shaq: They were shook. Pressure busts pipes. Most of those guys were playing because of C-Webb's balls. C-Webb had balls and White Chocolate [Jason Williams] had balls. [Writer's Note: Williams was traded from Sacramento before the 2001–02 season, and didn't play in that series.] Divac ain't got no balls. Doug Christie damn sure ain't got no balls. I would look at them during the national anthem. I could see in their eyes if they were scared. I would see Doug Christie looking and doing the thing [flashing hand signals] to his wife. I would make eye contact with Divac, and he looked down. And I was like, "Okay, I got him." C-Webb would try to look hard, but it didn't work because his other puppies didn't play well.

I wish Shaq would bring that type of game to his commentator role. Right now hes too frigid.

The past few seasons Kobe has lost that insecure douche part of his public persona.

He's still a douche in other ways but he answers questions honestly. If he doesn't want to talk about it he doesn't give PR answers, he says he doesn't want to talk about it or jokes about the topic.

It's been awesome to see him not give a shit what people think of him. He isn't pretending to be humble like other players, its like "I'm great, you know I'm great, let's just move on." instead of "I guess I'm good, but others are goo too, I don't want to forget where I came from, just want to play this game I have a passion for, I'm blessed." It gets real stale and the guys who don't mean it are so transparent.

They sent me a postcard a while back that said COME BACK - ONCE A BRUIN, ALWAYS A BRUIN. I was like, "Wow, that's a really nice sentiment--I wish you'd had it when YOU EXPELLED ME." Then I used it as a bookmark in O.J. Simpson's If I Did It.

I think Kobe is at the stage in his carer where he just doesn't give a fuck about the media etc. Its pretty awesome

Also Corey Brewer is a great guy.

headed? Oh, it's already there in many communities.
Sorry, I meant that in terms of the pensions at the time were headed in that direction but they kept also ramping up the RDA's even after realizing where the pensions were headed.

Was trying to bolster the point that unlike California and its localities, some places only have one or two sets of outsized liabilities that are bankrupting them.
I've met Joel Anthony on many occasions and he was a very nice guy probably because he's a scrub.
He's Canadian.

Yikes.

Here's some speculative info on how the Arena is being financed:
The Maloofs agreed to contribute more than $70 million upfront to the construction of the arena, "probably another $75 million over the term of the agreement."

----

Under a previously reported agreement, the city of Sacramento was to raise about $190-$230 million by leasing out parking garages to private investors.

A source, speaking on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press because they were not authorized to disclose the information, said another $75-$100 million is expected from the Kings and $40-$60 million from arena operator AEG.

The remaining gap will be covered by some combination of a ticket surcharge, advertising around the arena, allocating a portion of the city's existing transient occupancy tax or a sale of three or four parcels of city land.

What a dumbass. Can't even remember Bibby, who was killing them, or Bojax who killed them as well. Shaq should thank his waning braincells for NBA refs.

Also eat a dick for saying Vlade had no balls. Divac was dealing with family and friends in the middle of an ugly, genocidal civil war. The worst Shaq has faced is a missing cue card.

I want Shaq to bring the salt and anger to Inside. Glad he knows that he hasn't gelled perfectly yet with the crew, I really would like him to go in on players like Chuck sometimes does.

Same here. If Shaq is actually aware that he's currently substandard on TNT, then maybe there's hope and he actually might try to improve.

Oh wait, didn't we say the same thing about his free-throw shooting? Oh well...

Yeah, shaqs analysis is always shitty and onesided.

Also good job stealing your boy Nash's tv show idea!

He was doing good until he gave credit to Chris Webber for "toughness"/"balls".

C-Webb was soft. C-Webb was scared of that last shot, and gave it to rookie Mike Bibby to do it for him.

Shaq, like Jay-Z, lost there.

He was doing good til he took shots at Vlade.

once in a while DY is right.

Though, the rest of the interview is fiyah. Dude is mad salty, and I wish we got to see that more. Its funny though, that it took Chuck so long to be a good commentator. He used to always be the fall man, but the last two seasons he's really come on.

Actually, its when he started to lose weight. Ever since he has, he's been pretty aggressive. He went from being made fun of for being fat to making jokes about shaking down Diddy for his jewelry after the all-star game. lulz.

Vlade Divac was a floppin' ass flop, and Wade will do any cheap trick to get the advantage over an opponent. He's a bitch too.

What?

Chuck has been giving people shit for years, it has nothing to do with his weight loss and everybody always gave him respect except when it came to his shape.

I mean, its been 10 ish years, dont pretend Chuck has been the butt of the jokes for that long, for the most parts he always been the one with the super controversial opinions.

Shaq is such a dipshit.

If anyone deserved an MVP over Shaq, it was definitely Nash, not a one trick-pony giant dumbass.
