Just want to chime in on the Bloodline talk, I think it's a great show, the location does a lot to really drive up the atmosphere, and it fits in with the slow burn. Really good performances too, especially Mendelsohn. I strongly recommend people check it out and I think it should have been nominated for Best Drama.
 
Scanning through Netflix--well, actually, I just found an API to dump everything they have, and then put it in a list--looking for stuff I've never seen. So far I did A-D. It's a pretty short list. Of the list, and after excluding all the South Korean soaps and competition ghost hunting renovation garbage, I was left with this:

I've seen DTLA - it's a porn-y gay drama that feels like a webseries in all the worst ways. I'd avoid it unless you're really desperate for gay themed media.

I remember burning through Darknet. It's an anthology series, horror based but most of it centers around technology in the modern era being used against us. It's worth the time, not a terrible time commitment.

I only watched one episode of Danger 5. It's an Australian superspy comedy. It reminded me of Archer and Garth Marenghi's Dark Place. Except not as enjoyable for me. Then again, I only gave it 1 epiaode.

Yeah, it's a dramedy. And it serves an audience that is basically ignored by television, which is part of why I found it appealing. Also, unlike Modern Family, the gay couple actually kiss each other and aren't gay just because they are swishy. lol

Danger 5 is mentioned above... it's fine. The first season is a perfect absurdist parody of 70s shows. The second season, not so much.

The Code is an okay thriller series. I think I just watched it because it was Australian though. Season 2 is coming soon, if it hasn't come out already.

I take that back. I just finished season 1 and by the end I liked it a lot. I guess it just didn't click for me quite as fast as BFF did.

Actually...

The decision to end Da Vinci’s Demons was done after Season 3 was shot, so the producers didn’t necessarily plan the season finale as a series finale. Still, Albrecht promises “a very satisfying conclusion” and a satisfying way for fans to get to it by getting access to the entire final season on-demand the day of the premiere.

Yes, I'm laughing at the fact that I sold it to icarus. The show is charming, but it is what it is in terms of its politics. Miss Fisher is basically the most progressive woman in the 20s, fighting against sexism, homophobia, racism, classicism and any other injustice you could think of. All while solving murders each episode.

This will either break the world for you because of the anachronistic nature of it all, or make it that much more fun to watch as she schools the rest of Australia in 21st century identity politics. lol

The Code was solid for what it was, but just as with Secrets & Lies I found it a bit overhyped. Danger 5 is a good time and not a massive commitment so it's worth a shot.

I wouldn't even call it dramedy, just a drama series that happen to be very funny at times. But then again I haven't caught up on the entire season so that may colour my opinions of it.

This is the bestest explanation of that show. It's so incredibly trashy and stupid, yet I watched it and enjoyed it.

Isn't that based on a book series? I remember reading one like that, I don't remember much beyond it being the 1920s, her being a flapper, Australian, and she had a Japanese boyfriend

It's show that makes Looking seem mainstream despite having four "big name" actors.

Bloodline I feel is about as quiet as Damages ever was anyway and probably doesn't have the same type of "engaged" audience.

Grace and Frankie was great. Not like outstanding or even must watch TV but a nice dramedy series that explores various challenges of life as an older man/woman/etc.
 
Danger 5 is great fun if you like Darkplace, Archer, or the general idea of pulp SF/spy parody involving Nazis. Biggest caveat is that S1 sets a high bar of insanity early on that it never quite matches again (
the time-traveling stop-motion Nazi dinosaurs episode
), but S2 is completely batshit all the way through. It's only two short seasons and manages not to wear out its welcome by the end.

I saw this previewed on THR as "A comedy, written on spec, about one family told through separate stories of its different family members." and I can't help but wonder if they really meant it was a MF spec script with the names changed...

Edit, sorry, NBC's Superstore is described as "A comedy about a group of employees at a big box store who quickly learn that there’s much more to their ho-hum jobs — like love, friendship, and the surprises of everyday moments – than they thought." and I just have to say I have worked at a big box store and my eyes just rolled all the way out of my head at this description.

Oh I thought it was gonna be the one where Abed's character development finally sticks or shows instead of him learning the moral of the story and then promptly being stereotypical Abed all over again.
 
A Community movie only makes sense on a streaming service like Netflix. But since it's Sony, I bet it will be a Crackle exclusive.

Their wives are played by Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin (the eponymous Grace and Frankie), so it really is four veteran actors playing off each other.
(And all four have been on Sorkin shows, which is a weird coincidence).

It's not going to be a show that has a GAF thread where people talk about the cinematography or speculate about whether aliens are taking over the world or if Martin Sheen is actually a Cthulu monster, but it's a decent show about a specific demographic of the American population that is completely ignored in American media.

Although that said, I don't want to make it seem like this generation's Golden Girls either. It's fine, but I'm not going to go overboard. lol

While I liked past season 3, it definitely lost its charm after that point. At least it isn't a zombie like Family Guy.

Yahoo was eager to make another season but actors greed got in the way. I guess we know now why they all stuck around so long, it was for the money.

I understand what you're saying but that's not how it works in TV. Even when a series comes to a natural, planned, end.. like say The Sopranos or Lost, it's labelled as being cancelled.

I don't know why that is. I'd assume it's due to some technical aspect of tv programming or something along those lines. Either way, that's just how it is.

I've seen shows.referred to as ended rather than cancelled all over the place.

No one says Friends or Lost were cancelled.

Yes, and it would be correct to say both that Community ended and that Community was cancelled, just as it was with any other show that ended.
