2014 High-Res PC Screenshot Thread of the Last Hope for Image Quality

Nice DayZ pic above. Was only just playing it for the first time in months myself. Still yet to see that rain though.

I'm also playing Origins at the moment and i'm surprised how well the txaa works in 1080p. It's not perfect and sometimes you can see extreme aliasing for some reason but most of the time it is exceptionally clean. I'd like to play in a higher res than that but i'm a sucker for the stupid physX effects and those hanging flags or carpets (or whatever those are?) are murdering my framerate on anything higher than 1080p, even at that res i can see the framerate dropping sometimes (GTX780, i7 3,7-3,9Ghz).

Same here. I got the same specs. except i7 3.5 ghz. The smoke effects are pretty nice and rarely hit performance. I usually see drops in large fights. Other than that, it's mostly fine.

I've seen some insanely talented photographers who go above and beyond to get some crazy shots and still not feel the need to watermark their stuff.

Did you have too many kids on tumblr posting your screenshots there or something?

That screenshot is using beta version with unfinished/wrong textures of my mod.
.

Yeah not a surprise. Hadn't played the game since, well a long, long time ago and I guess even before your newer version. Great work either way though :)

A couple more from ArcheAge. Can really see the game that took so many years to create. Some areas look great and some look pretty bad. Likewise, I've never seen a game look so different from day to night. Day looks beautiful, night almost always looks like crap.

if you still have those mod files of the final version can you not upload them somewhere else ?

Or am i misreading this and is the version most of us are using the final version ?

Also any updates regarding the reveagance retexture work?

Final version was released as 4.0 + 2 'day one' patches. But that screenshot was not from that version, that's all.

Rising? I'm finishing my texture holiday period.

Yeah, I'm probably gonna add a rule against watermarks if I see anymore. No one wants to see them.

Interesting, looks like Magic and Mayhem. I need to read about this game, i have not even known it existed.

Just as a warning it's made by Cyanide. I don't think they've ever made a good game. Although to be fair this one has their highest metacritic score. (if you go by those things)

Prey with Sikkmod visual enhancement mod. Mainly installed for DoF and Bloom/HDR but there are some really interesting color grading options available as well...wish there was more detailed documentation on this though..it's been alot of trial and error...mostly error. Here are some I thought were getting close to the default game color grading with more lighting, bloom and DoF.

Great game though, glad I found the CD.

If someone takes pride in something there's absolutely nothing wrong with them wanting to be credited for their investment of time into it.

Who cares if you've seen "insanely talented photographers" who didn't feel the need to watermark. That's irrelevant. There's nothing worth looking down upon of a person being proud of something they've done and wanting it to be attributed to them.

Watermarking is used to show ownership or copyright and to try to prevent unauthorized use of the materials. Not to show pride. And I feel like it goes against the spirit of screenshots in general. We're pointing out mouse at other peoples art in an attempt to show it in the best way possible.

The only real owners of copyright here are the developer\publisher for the game.

Also, watermarking tends to ruin otherwise clean screenshots. I could never understand the rationale behind removing a HUD from a game and adding a watermark. Let alone games that include their own watermarks somewhere on screen.

That may be your expected use of watermarking, but someone can absolutely be using it as a stamp of "I did this" and that doesn't mean it is the only use of it.

Watermark isn't an implication of copyright. You can not own a game but still take personal ownership of a screenshot of a game, the same way you could not own a song and still perform a cover of it and attribute it to your name.

It's silly to ignore the effort that goes in to taking a good screenshot of a game and pretend that the person screenshotting has zero input on the final result. He didn't post "Hey this is a game I made" he said "Hey, this is a screenshot I made of a game called Crysis 3." attributing the proper credit to the game itself but showcasing that it was them who took the screenshot.

This screenshot

kANcT6i.jpg

is a very different showcasing of the game than this screenshot

and to pretend that the person capturing it is irrelevant to the end result is disingenuous.

If you agree that more effort clearly went in to one than the other, then you can admit that the person taking the screenshots puts at the lowest bar SOME modicum of effort into it and if they do put some effort into it then they have a right to be proud of the effort they put in to produce something.

It was never a question about how much effort went into it. You know damn well that I know how much work can be involved in taking screenshots. Sometimes I spend hours upon hours just putting together some tools so people can take screenshots of games.

I don't care if someone created their own personal DSFix for Dark Souls 2. Then created their own free camera. SweetFX setup. Etc etc. Then actually took really good, well-composed screenshots. I'd still find the notion of slapping a watermark on them absurd.

That answer doesn't explain why, it's just simply stating "It's absurd because I say so" which is an immature reason to be condescending to a person.

Mind sharing how you got rid of the hud when taking screenshots? This game looks great but I haven't found the solution to getting rid of that annoying hud. Especially in fights.

Inside buildings (and outside fights) the hud fades. Then theres a cheat engine table that let's you remove the hud and i believe some other tools that are UE3 related. If you don't want to mess with all that you could grab a frame from video, after leaving the map screen theres a frame withouth hud. But that's actually not less work...maybe even more work. I'm not 100% sure but i think Thorgal postet some tipps back in this thread ...

Edit 2: Oh crap! Apologies for the double post.

You need to link to the actual image file. Click the options button (the 3 dots). Select download/all sizes, then press "View All Sizes".

Select "Original" ,then copy the URL of the image shown. Use that URL for your IMG tags.

As an example I fixed your first image.

Thanks a lot! Will do it right now.

Someone called ? XD

The Cheat engine table is available here :

http://forum.cheatengine.org/viewtopic.php?t=569076

It allows you to use settings like playersonly ,Fly .ghost . remove hud . Etc..

Playersonly has a small issue though :

Neo already answered but i will chime in:

playersonly works fine enough but causes the cape to glitch out .

the bottom of it stays stuck causing the cape to stretch ro ridiculous lengths as can be seen in my second SS.

The dof effect while nice. can also be hard to work with.

Well the cape does freeze in the same position but batman himself doesn't which limits dramatic posing options .

Other then that everything should work properly .

To get batman out of the shot either use wall hugging or use first person view .

Couple of examples from me ,earlier in the thread :

Nothing. I just stayed still for a very long time till it went away. It goes in and out randomly.

Unfortunately I have to agree with this. Watermarking almost implies you think you are good enough that someone will obviously steal your screenshot and claim it for themselves.

OR

They've just had a bad experience or something.

Putting it in such a blatant manner and place within the shot though, completely takes away from the screenshot itself for me.

At least put it at like 10% opacity in a very hard to see place

Also: I love those FC3 shots, but it's a shame you have to downsample so much to get the distant DoF to not look like shit due to undersampling.

Shadow map resolution on that truck makes me wish you could change that too. That's one thing I always loved about Crysis 1, so much stuff available to tweak that you could tweak things 5-10 years after it came out that still make it look better and better (in some aspects)
