2014 Microsoft E3 Conference

I'm glad they didn't have a bottom of the avatar shoe, Kinectimals, silly dance-off moment. It was relatively straightforward game announcements even if we knew what was coming. Now USA Today and The Today Show can report on this stuff.

Fable Legends, Sunset Overdrive, Forza Horizon 2, Halo Collection.. All high profile exclusives coming this year with Quantum Break early next year and KI season 2, are people really blind enough to not see those games. I'm sorry but they are system sellers, and with all the great third party stuff it'll packed with high profile games starting this fall. Lots of exclusive betas also and first on xbox One content, anyone saying this is less than an 8 is a fool! Besides all the 2015 will be amazing!

is a joke post?

Like last year it was a good conference due to it being all games. Dance Central, Halo Collection, Crackdown, and the indies were highlights for me.

What happen to the unprecedented partnership?

I felt the same way. I saw the trailer and thought it looked like a cross between Ratchet and Infamous with typical Insomniac humor (not a bad thing) piled in. It looks like it would be fun for a bit, but then get boring since you seemed redonkulously overpowered.

LOL yeah no bullet sponges there... hopefully they can get enough mob on the screen to make it a challenge... or they haven't completely revealed the bullet sponges yet.

They presented a whole lot of games that are multiplatform. If I wanted games like The Witcher 3, I'd get it on PS4 or the PC because let's be honest for games like that you want the best version possible.

I like a lot of games which is exactly why this whole presentation is extremely uninteresting. From what I can see, they presented exactly two games (CG trailers from what I read too) that are unique to the platform, aren't a remake, haven't already been announced, or are likely better on other platforms. This means what I am looking for are new unique game announcements, which seems to be Crackdown and Scaleform and even those reveals seem to be CGI. When misterxmedia is disappointed at the content, you know you've presented close to nothing that hasn't already been seen before.

If presenting games that have already been seen before nets you a good presentation, then people really have low expectations out of presentations at E3.

You said:

If I were looking to get an Xbox One, I'd be looking at actual reasons to why I might want one

If you were looking into buying an Xbox One, I don't see how you'd just ignore other games like Forza Horizon 2 and Sunset Overdrive. I get that the conference itself would've been more exciting if they had more exclusives (obviously, why wouldn't it), but if you are interested in the console, it's the line up of games that should count. Not a 90 minute presser. I just don't see how those games would be any less exciting just because we've seen gameplay of them a couple of weeks prior to e3. Or in case of Forza 2, a ten second teaser last friday.

7/10

The games looked fun. Sunset Overdrive, Ori, and the Playdead game were the best parts of the conference but all I saw were multiplatform games with timed-exclusive content and some 1st party exclusives that won't be released for many years.

Reading some people's posts on here I half-expected MS to moneyhat the next "Red Dead" game.

Nothing at the conference screamed "I need to own an XB1" and like others have said, it would have been a megaton if they dropped the Kinect and the price at this presentation.

Having said that, XB1 owners have a lot to look forward to in the fall, and if you're more into multiplayer games you're going to have a ton of hours sunken into online gaming.

Bingo

Correct. For the first half of last gen, PS3 was only for exclusives. It wasn't until 2010 or so that I started moving completely to PS3 (once ports started getting much better).

I was the same. 360 for exclusives and 3rd party and PS3 for exclusives. 2010 on I still got 3rd party on 360 because most were still better on 360. Did you not do the same past 2010?

Having meltdown?

EA and Microsoft's pressers were near opposites in how to present something. For anything that was years off, Microsoft gave tight, 90-second CG trailers with little commentary; EA gave 5minute developer diaries showing alpha gameplay and art assets.

Reactions? "Why is MS not showing any gameplay, it's all CG??" "Why is EA only showing these developer diaries ugh this is so boring why only art assets??"

Means the only answer is to not announce/show anything at a conference, and just wait for leaks.

Anyone who thinks the Sony conference won't have a similar focus on multiplatform games is being naive.

Sony's focus on multiplatform would be fine because PS4 is the most powerful console with best versions of multiplatform titles.
It's a reverse from PS3 vs 360 situation - one which MS still didn't fully realize yet it seems. PS3 was great because of it's exclusive software from SCEWWS and their "2nd parties", in spite of 360 having better multiplatform. XBO should be the same what PS3 was if they want to have a chance at winning this round. For now it seems that PS4 will have both better exclusives line-up and better multiplatform titles.

They needed a much stronger conference to make a dent in the PS4's momentum.

It was also a mistake to do a media blowout for Sunset Overdrive before E3, they should have saved it all for the conference.

It was a very good conference, Halo, spark, sunstet overdrive, onii looked awesomee.

I want to see real gameplay of phantom dust and scalebound

8.5/10

because lack of final megaton (gow)

evolve Also has my interest

edit: oh! Fable looked great to

Grass is always greener etc etc

I find it weird people are ragging on this showing. It was 90 minutes of straight games, multiple high-profile announcements (2mb Raider, Unity, Platinum's thing) , and fan-pleasing revivals (Phantom Dust, Crackdown). There were zero awkward flubs or bad jokes, and frankly the worst-looking game demoed (Fable Legends) was still excusable.

Compared to EA, or even MS' showing last year (which was still solid) - this was a solid 8.

Or in other words anyone who has no interest in those games has different tastes than you. That's fine, man. Take a chill pill. Not everyone will like what you like. Take me for example: I dislike everything you posted.

I think I have a more positive look on this E3 so far.
MS showed up with games. Many many games.

But I think the big surprise for me was CO-OP.
Co-op is back, (never really left but wasn't a big deal) I think the majority of the games showed some amazing 4-8 player co-op.

Assassins Creed looked fun with that 4 player quest/mission
Sunset - 8 player something!
DR3 - 4 player DLC Co-OP
Halo - (some coop there)
Fable Legends - seems to have taken a notes from Zombi U multiplayer with the Villian aspect.
Evolve - Played this at PAX and it was amazing.

I say bring on the games! bring on the co-op

I do agree. Co-op is great news for me! AC Co-op is something I have wanted for ages, so I am interested to see how that pans out.

Just because the PS4 version will have a 100-200 more p's, the X1 version will still provide a great experience and MS have just as much reason to show these games as sony does.

I was the same. 360 for exclusives and 3rd party and PS3 for exclusives. 2010 on I still got 3rd party on 360 because most were still better on 360. Did you not do the same past 2010?

Nope, unless it was a massive difference. For the most part, ports after 2010 had a few differences, some being slightly better on PS4, others on X1 (COD games for example I continued getting on X360 until the PS4). For the most part I retired my 360 since it barely had any support. For a while it was my Bayonetta machine only.

Huh? Platinum is 3rd party no?
A game is a "third party" one if it is NOT funded by the first party.

Bayonetta 2 for WiiU is kind of a gray area since it was initially greenlit by Sega which hold the IP but it is now funded and published by Nintendo (it is still considered a first party game though).

I just feel like as someone who's never really been into the xbox side of things as much it was super safe, relying on a lot of nostalgia to please existing fans but not doing much to attract anybody new.

I love Halo, but its not enough on its own to make me want to buy the console yet, I've played those games already.

Sunset overdrive looked good, but everything else was either multiplatform or stuff that I didn't get the excitement over.

the halo collection is like buying a new bluray remaster to replace a DVD version. Instead of having these spread apart three consoles, they're together in 1080p/60 fps and every MP map ever. Inevitable release for the franchise, but great release even if it's not a console seller. Great way to dive in the franchise if you've never played it.

Phantom Dust was a forgotten gem on the xbox that might as well be considered as a new game with how few people played it originally. I'm fine with remakes from two generations ago.

It wasn't the flood of games I expected, but I've been invested in their franchises since the beginning and Horizon 2 is a huge console selling game for me. I'll just wait until the holidays to get one.

5/10

Sunset Overdrive is why I have my Xbox One and it looks like the only got to have title for the system. They might as well put a lot of their marketing muscle behind that title because they haven't got much else. This is going to be a very rough year for Microsoft.

Microsoft is publishing it.
3rd party means that it is made and published by an independent company.
This is "2nd party" - made by an independent studio but funded and published by a 1st party.

It would actually be first party according to Spencer's definition. It's an IP owned by MS, but for which they contracted another studio. In their eyes, it's first party.

As previously talked about...only people who care about differences on multiplatformers are members of this forum. Didn't matter during ps3 days and it doesn't matter now (except for fallout and skyrim) :)
