How many shirts will Phil Spencer wear?

excellent conference. really catered to the core xbox player. might be disappointing to some, but backwards compatibility, new controller, gears, rare games, fallout mods, and new indies really hyped the people in attendance up. very good. lost a little steam after the BC megaton, though. id give it a VERY solid B

I would give it a 5 out of 10.

I wanted new IP's with large budgets and didn't see anything that was compelling on that front. Halo 5 looked better than I expected but gears 4 was a real downer. I'll take a wait and see approach there. There wasn't muc else to the conference than that. Everything else wasnt a big deal to me. BC will get old fast as I no longer play last gen games right now.

BC is actually a big deal to me, as someone who never owned a 360 and always wanted to try a couple of games for it. Will definitely pick up an XB1 at some point in the future now so I can try Lost Odyssey, Halo ODST, and a couple of others. Some of the indie games shown were impressive and appealing; I wish more time had been spent with them. The "big beast" trailers like Gears, Halo, Tomb Raider were tame in comparison. I can see the EA Access program and the Minecraft VR stuff being really popular with the right target audiences, but neither includes me. Leveraging Windows 10 so heavily strikes me as a very smart move given the continued strengthening of the PC market, and it could prove crucial in years to come. My verdict is that it's a solid E3 conference - nothing mindblowing, but a good appeal to gamers, and most importantly of all, more clean water under the bridge since the 2013 debacle.

Pretty disappointing. 360 BC is the biggest thing shown for me seeing I never owned a 360, will make the XBO purchase easier to justify when Scalebound rolls around.
As long as they get Tales of Vesperia, Lost Odyssey, Ninja Gaiden 2 and others on there.

I was hoping for Threeie and not an MMO from Rare :(

I think the success (or failure) of Microsoft's press conference relies on two things.

1. Is Final Fantasy VII remake real?
2. Is Final Fantasy VII remake exclusive to PS4?

If the answer to 2 is "yes", there's not much argument you can make in MS's favor for today.

Otherwise, it was a great show.

1. No
2. See 1.

So with that out of the way, how do you feel about the Xbox conference now?!

After all the yammering about "biggest reveal of games in xbox history" and "so many games to reveal that we have to spread it out over E3 and gamescon" it was a total disappointment. Biggest reveal was (limited) BC.

I know, 2 real new game reveals (Recore and Sea of Thieves) I guess you can count the Rare Collection and Gears Ultimate but not exactly NEW games.

So disappointing.

You don't have to buy it. It's Free-to-play. :)

Buy/Play, same thing to me, it's not the parting money thing that is an issue.

Just caught up...
Holy shit that was an amazing conference!
I was blown away.

Exact opposite for me, the MS show was very underwhelming. I am a huge Gears of War fan and that reveal was the worst part of the show for me. Nothing at the show at all was amazing outside of the backwards compatibility.

I thought is was a solid conference. Wasn't amazing, but I was pleased with it. That's pretty big for me, because the last few years were dreadful in my opinion. I give em a thumbs up this year.

I guess I wasn't disappointed like many here, because I never expected that stuff y'all are mentioning. I dunno.

are they showing off the new UI on Xbox daily in 1.5 hours or did i misunderstand

BC wasn't for you people. BC was for the millions of people out there with a 360 and no next-gen console.

it certainly was for me! Finally a way to play Geometry Wars 2 :D

Hmmmmmmmmm..

They do this every year, both companies...

Just finished watching it.

No major new announcements (although Rare's new game looks cool), but the games they did show look fantastic. I'll certainly be a happy XB1 owner this year and next.

That was a strong conference. Strongest in years for MS imo. I liked it. Some new IP that looked interesting, hololens blew me away, and halo 5 is shaping up nice. Love me some Tomb Raider also. Now for gamescom to show me the progress of Quantum Break and Scalebound :)

One thing the conference did make me glad on was my recent move from OSX and iOS on my Mac and iPad to a Xbone and Windows desktop.
Really happy about what they had shown.

1. No
2. See 1.

So with that out of the way, how do you feel about the Xbox conference now?!

I liked it in general...
Backwards compatibility will let me ditch my 360 from my entertainment center and I need to know more about ReCore.

I was really hoping for a huge "one more thing" at the end... But it never happened.

Dark Souls 3 would have been amazing if it hadn't leaked...

BC wasn't for you people. BC was for the millions of people out there with a 360 and no next-gen console.

Last gen, taking BC away was concurrent with sales of consoles rising (not saying that taking it away was the reason, just that it didn't stop the rise in sales). I don't think that adding it will have the effect that you think it will. Getting awesome new games out there is what sells new consoles.

I have not seen the conference yet, but how clear were they on this? You are not the first person to post pretty much exactly that.

I didn't come away from the conference thinking everything would be backwards compatible on day 1. From what I remember, they said they'd have a significant amount of titles upon the functionality's release - and work on getting the rest of the titles thereafter. Or at least that's how I understood it.

Overall good conference. Would have liked to have seen Scalebound, QB and Crackdown featured (I know they are at Gamescom) as the usual Halo/Forza/Fable/Gears quad didn't really excite. So whilst there wasn't anything really bad about the conference, there was no stand out "woah" moment either.

I'd give it a B - generally good but nothing too spectacular.

By what?

Man I was totally wrong about this one. I thought for sure Halo and Gears were going to look awesome.

How crazy

Not feeling Halo 5 (would much rather have a new Republic Commando), but Gears looked great. A return to its roots was long overdue, really hope it has more of a survival aspect and a real sense of oppressive and horror atmosphere.

Limited ammo would be nice too...

Was wanting something big to make me want an Xbox One. I almost pulled the trigger last year but didnt and wont be after this years E3.

I dont think it was a bad conference, just typical MS. Nothing here amazing. I got excited for a remastered Fallout 3, but than its just the 360 version with BC.

They said almost immediately that there would be 100 titles by this holiday's full launch.

Well, that may still be true. The list posted is what's available now apparently.
It does say 100 titles on that page.

If they did say 100 titles this fall then it's not particularly deceptive, assuming they actually follow through.

It does appear to be mostly 1st party titles so far.

I have not seen the conference yet, but how clear were they on this? You are not the first person to post pretty much exactly that.

Phil Spencer specifically said there would he hundreds of titles available this fall when it's available to the public and that developers just need to give them permission to activate it for BC and don't need to do anything else.

Anyone that was expecting every game, or even hundreds available right now couldn't have been listening properly I guess.

I just wonder if by the holidays people will go back to just no caring about this feature again. In all seriousness the prospect of playing rainbow six and fall out 3 for 360 on xbone when a fresh new entry is out has next to no appeal to many people.

Just finished watching it.

OK conference. They showed off some cool looking titles, but all the gameplay demos were really boring.

Looking back, I just realized that the servers actually held up during the conference; I find that mildly surprising.

I think MS did a good job this year. It was a well balanced conference with very little fluff.

You liked the Gears reveal Miles?
I watched the youtube 1080p cut of it was that low quality. All the textures looked muddy, the character models looked typical and though it had the cool plodding pace of the original it didn't plod anywhere exciting.

Hundreds is deceptive, as it's expected to be around 100. Singular. According to the official MS site.

"With over 100 titles slated for this fall, and hundreds more added every month"

key word: over

It's so odd to have a Microsoft conference where the lacklustre moments were big hitters like Halo and Gears. Both had really poor demos that did nothing for me as a fan of both franchises (or at least when they were both made by their previous developers).

Highlights for me were Sea of Thieves (love the aesthetic and I'm a sucker for good water), the backwards compatibility, mod support and the indie stuff they showed.

Thought it was solid with some great announcements but it just amazes me how apathetic I was towards their big stuff. That's usually been Microsoft's killer move for me.

It made an impression. The visuals perhaps weren't as stunning as Gears 1 back in the day, but I was impressed by the overall demo. I liked the storm, the effects, more of a focus on environmental threats, the focus on a more darker/horror-esque tone and the new Locust certainly looked interesting. It's about time Gears had more fast paced enemies...

Didn't much care for the new MC though, hope that's a generic model and we'll be playing as someone more interesting. I was pretty bummed when it wasn't revealed to Fenix...

I'd much rather play as the female character, she seemed more interesting and had more of a personality.

I agree, still... Cup Head rocks!!!

I was expecting a solid showing from MS and that's exactly what I got.

  • The BC announce was a big surprise although I've already commented on the other thread that I'm interested to see the real world effect it will have.
  • Tomb Raider looks good but it's Tomb Raider. Can wait till next year. And there's no way they'll release on the same date as Fallout lol. Also I need to call out the utter nonsense of "Xbox Exclusive | Holiday 2015". Stop trying to deceive and just call it what it is "First on Xbox".
  • "How much is that thing going to cost lol" - Elite Controller
  • Recode was a nice surprise. Will keep an eye on it.
  • Gears looked good, purely as it's been so long since I've seen it. Had some great fun with my mate on co-op.
  • Halo was a little underwhelming actually. Liked the focus on co-op though. Was hoping for a MCC PC announce.
  • Indies we're great but none we're exclusive. Cuphead though specifically is a great get for them.
  • After Kinect I'm super skeptical of Hololens. I just wonder if it will suffer from the olde AR judder amongst other things. Can't wait for hands on though, hope I'm proven wrong!
A solid 7/10. No faux pas. Well done MS.

If we're rating, it's a hard zero from me as there wasn't a single mention of Phantom Dust. That suggests to me it's dead and I'll never forgive MS for getting my hopes up about it making a come back...
