2015 PC Screenshot Thread of the Only Place Where Compression Isn't

what seems to be the best/favorite gaf screen capture tool? I've been using the steam screenshot functionality but there are a few non-steam games i'd like to mess around with.

I'm using MSI Afterburner for my screenshots but that program has other functions too, so it might not be the best for screenshots only.

I have that too but I just wasn't sure the quality was up to par. I know that the steam screenshots are uncompressed. I wonder if the MSI ones are as well.

Lighten up a little. Enjoy the pictures. Don't see something you like? Tired of seeing shots of a game? Just scroll past.

I'd like to add to that excellent advice: post some screenshots instead of 'this breaks the rules' or 'this game again, it is boooring'. While there have to be rules (it would quickly be a mudfest otherwise), we're all human and what's boring / sucking drivel to some is polished gold for the other. 8)

You can choose to save them as .BMP which I afaik is always uncompressed. Not sure about the quality otherwise.

Reading the rules is never too much to ask in threads like these, imo.

First post. Started modding Skyrim. Finally got to this, getting about 60fps at 1440p on my rig. Only thing that I don't seem to be able to fix , is a stutter sometimes (I suppose when loading new textures and stuff) which is strange since it's installed on a SSD.

Welcome to the thread lapino.

If you're going to post Skyrim screenshots, there are a few console commands that you can use to make your shots much better. tm gets rid of the HUD and UI, and tfc 1 will allow you to use the free camera/timestop to set up a shot just as you want.

Does the new COD still disable motionblur when playing the game? AKA, it is only in the cutscenes?

No it is in game aswell
I used to enjoy this thread. Now I see on a daily basis new members constantly breaking the rules.

Or even stretching them. No more than 3 posts in a row, yet you get the same user and game for 9 within 12 posts or whatever.

Post a couple, give a sample then link to your album would be the best bet. But I don't make the rules. Instead you can go 10 pages with a total of 3 users' pics...

I get what you're saying but is that any better then just having page after page of fallout/skyrim for the past 3 years? Should we go ahead and implement a rule where you can only post a game if it hasn't been posted within a certain amount of posts, it's not like this thread is updated often enough that there is an issue, there is about 20-30 posts a day.

Thanks, new to this so learning a lot. One thing that could be improved on my Skyrim is that a lot of the textures seem to look a bit plasticky. Anything I can do to fix this? Also is there a way to modify contrast?

I'm not the best person to ask as I've only played it on a console, but if you browse through the last 10 pages or so of this thread you'll find a ton of modded screens. If you like any of them you can always request the user for their settings. AnyOneinCherno knows a lot about this stuff so look up his posts. He posted a guide to modding Skyrim not so long ago.

These are actually screens I took from the unlocked 3D character models. There's some horrible banding going on that I could only minimize by increasing the contrast.

Really? Mind posting a screen of it in some non-cinematic level? I always thought they turned it off for gameplay.. or at least read that somewhere.

That screenshot I quoted is in game, if not for the commands i used you would see a gun and hud. I was 100% in control of my character. I was just playing at like 40 FOV

By your rules this thread would be updated rarely. Everyone doesn't always have shots to share. And the ones that do, would stuck waiting over something arbitrary.

Hasn't been the case for the last four years. I see no reason why it would suddenly be in 2015. Rules are there for a reason and if you don't like them - don't post here.

And to not be that guy who only say stuff instead of posting images here's a random screenshot from my capture folder:

MSI Afterburner is near universal and works excellent for everything in my experience. For FFXIV though for example, I have been using the built in screenshot function set to PNG. However thinking about it now though! I should be using AB instead because it wont' have the copyright watermark! hahah

Those CoD shots look amazing btw. It's been a while since i've been impressed by CoD

I'm aware the rules have been the same. I've been posting in these threads for at least the last 2 years and have all the way back to the 2012 thread bookmarked. So i'm certainly no stranger to the rules.

That doesn't mean I can't think that some of them aren't arbitrary. And like I mentioned. Some of them make sense (Avoiding spoilers from recent games,2 per post,JPG100% or PNG on a host that won't re compress them, labeling what it is, not being stretched etc), others don't.

Any programs out there for screenshots besides Fraps? I'm not seeing any suggestions in the OP unless I'm just missing it. Thanks!

MSI Afterburner a lot of people like.

If you're working with Dx9 games GeDoSaTo can be a treat because people can create hacks to remove the hud in screenshots.

Steam has a built in lossless screenshot utility, but it won't capture post processing like SweetFx so its not best for those cases.

Some overclocking programs come with a screenshot function. Especially the ones that are built on RivaTuner like MSI Afterburner/EVGA Precision X, maybe others too but I'd say these are the best.
You can always use SweetFX / eFX / ReShade which all have a screenshot function. If you use ReShade/Afterburner/Precision X, you can determine which format it captures your screenshots in (BMP, PNG). I use ReShade.
