2015 PC Screenshot Thread of the Only Place Where Compression Isn't

Oh that second picture! Excellent lighting, surreal.

Did remind me of Fairlight's latest demo: http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=65258 (if you don't want it to run in real time you can watch the video)

Yeah to be the voice of dissent, Mirrors Edge beauty for me has always been in its clean sharp edges and the simplicity of it. Throwing those Reshade shaders on top seems to dirty it up too much for my liking. The orange door with light flooding through is so grained up that it sort of just looks like JPEG compression.

People don't have to accept criticisms as valid, but anyone is free to offer criticism regardless of if it was asked or not. That's life.

No, this is the internet. A very different set of rules apply to forums like this regarding discussion.

People come here to see screenshots, not read a very small number of poster's "criticism."

I think your argument is dumb and bad, feel free to take the criticism if you'd like ;)

I completely agree with you

This thread has had a balance of screenshots, praise, and criticism for as long as I can remember. Get over it.

(Sorry for having Dickus Maximus in the shot, didn't have time yet to setup cheat engine w/ camera scripts)

Not sure what you're getting on about. There's nothing wrong with having your character in a shot :P The main advantage to cheat engine is simply that you don't have to have your character in the MIDDLE of the screen. That said, my favorite AC4 shot has my character front and center, albeit with a modified FOV and camera angle.

The CE table is pretty easy to use though. Sadly, I don't think anything can be done about Ubisoft's amateur way of handling different aspect ratios (16:9 only with black bars on everything else... DERP).

I think criticism is good and fine if it's constructive and can help you take better shots or improve the look of a game. I welcome it anytime. I just don't think there's a need to be rude or obnoxious if someone's put time and effort into taking screens, regardless of whether they're technically or artistically correct. Some people just don't have a thick skin and feel easily humiliated on public forums. From my brief experience here, I can tell some of us need to get some fresh air once in a while :-P

My favorite piece of criticism came in the form of a comment on one of my youtube videos that read:

"It's alright if you're a subhuman who doesn't understand English."

It really helped me become the artist I think I am today.

I'm glad my criticisms did not fall on deaf ears and its good to see how i've helped you grow to be a better person.

Does that have to be done on a per-resolution basis? I guess that's better than nothing.

Still, that shit needs to be patched by Ubisoft. It's just insane how poor their resolution support has always been on PC.

Tell me your're a photographer? I checked out your shots on flickr yesterday. You have some incredible stuff on there.

Marty's AO is really bothering me in this game, I just can't seem to get it set right to have it not apply to brightly fogged areas

Currently there's no fix for AO bleeding in MasterEffect, at least not one that removes it completely. It's better to try different AO techniques and tweak the AO settings on a per screenshot basis so the bleeding isn't as noticeable.
It's pretty easy to hide some of the bleeding in distance using one of the DoF shaders with a relatively high amount of blur. For gameplay, I'd recommend to have AO disabled (depends on the game though).

He's got that LUMINANCE_CONSIDERATION feature that worked perfectly in DA:I to only add AO to not fogged areas, but for some reason I just can't get it to work in Dark Souls

Oh, I never got it to work. I don't know about your hardware but if you are using a nvidia GPU why not just use HBAO+, it looks a shitload better than any of the AO techniques in MasterEffect and it doesn't bleed in Dark Souls. Check this page, it's full of HBAO+ flags for different games.

I'm not. I'm generally quite shit at photography. They are two very different disciplines. If I even learned anything about composition (and I still say that I haven't), it's from other screenshotters on Flickr =P

Anywho, some more FC4 shots.

It's a shame we can't get depth access in Far Cry 4, because any DoF shader would look better than the crap Ubisoft is using. And it would go a long way to hide the LOD issues the game has.

Other than that, it's a pretty nice looking game. The foliage and soft shadows are both very good looking and nasty on performance.

Not sure I'm fully understanding the issue, but it seems like people have gotten black bars removed with custom resolutions over on the WSGF

Hmm I hope it doesn't make it zoom in even more, as I can't stand the FoV already at the moment (I'm guessing it's < 65).

Took a couple of snaps with the ship at full speed. Turned out ok :)

Nice :) Yes the FoV makes it in general a pain to have decent shot as the main character is so close up in every shot. I'll see if I can get CE working, have never used it. If only for a changed FoV it is worth it.

Here's a guide I created on using the table. This assumes, of course, that you've downloaded and installed Cheat Engine.

I don't think you can change the FOV without also enabling the free camera. So that probably won't help you if you want a better FOV for gameplay, but it will fore screenshots.

Just installed a new video card, so here's some experimental high res shots:

Unfortunately, it seems the higher the resolution gets, the worse Xenoblade's bloom effect looks.

Yeah, the grain is quite over the top, but like I said - random settings! And I appreciate that you don't like them. I would have actually agreed with you until, well - my opinion on the game's graphics only changed yesterday when I just turned on shaders through the "eenie meenie minie mo" method :P

To be fair, I've also taken hundreds of shots of Mirror's Edge, and after starting at perfectly clean environments and sterile corridors, emulating a cheap, dirty lens is a welcome change for me.

Nice! Such a great game (also its successor, despite what some haters might think) (though you might need to give it some 16xAF love through the GPU config panel of your card ;))

Too bad they never released a HD texture pack.

Thanks

I also hope for a "definitive edition" for this game as well

I wish there was a good comparison between Dark Souls 2 with mods and the remaster. The only one available is with vanilla which always had bland lightning. SSAO alone from GeDoSaTo already makes a big difference.

Kind of a bummer not having ENB or even GeDoSaTo support though, so I can't imagine it will compare to what we have for the base game on PC.

Yeah that sucks but at least we have ReShade.

The images right before your post are Scholar of The First Sin XD

lol wut? Shouldn't you include the correct name of the game? "Dark Souls 2" just made me think that those are original DS2... Well after this event, it doesn't seem to look much different than the original version. Couldn't even tell the difference from what I've seen..

SotFS looks vastly better in a lot of areas. Here's a comparison between ENB and SotFS:

Graphics are pretty disappointing at this stage despite being an alpha, it seriously looks worse than MW2 and the engine doesn't look like it can support anything rivalling more modern games.

Performance is excellent, I'm getting a locked 60FPS and my 770+4670K are barely breaking a sweat.
