2015 PC Screenshot Thread of the Only Place Where Compression Isn't

Running a game in windowed mode and using SRWE to resize your window to a much larger resolution for screenshots.

This allows you to play at any resolution you're comfortable with (for example, 1920x1080). Then when you're ready to take a screenshot, you swap to a much higher resolution with the same aspect ratio (like 5120x2880). In that case, the window will be so large that it won't fit on your screen, but a screenshot will still capture the whole frame. After capturing a shot, you can resize the window back down and resume playing.

Then you can downsample the images for aliasing-free screenshots.

Here's a crappy one I took of GTAV downsampled from ~24 megapixels.

So I tried this with GTA and the game just stops rendering objects when I use it. Could get stuff like this in the shots I tried it with.

More from Los Santos!

The Stinger was my favorite car in GTA III, and when I saw it was in GTA VC, I was super hype, only to find out it had been turned into some classic garbage. Then Rockstar saw fit to bring it to GTA V and I was once again hype, only to be dissapointed again when I found out it was an "Ode" to the classic Stinger. Now, there's a Stinger GT and by all the old gods and the new, it is perfection.

I don't know if it's just me or a temporary thing, but the shots hosted on flickr are giving me loading speeds that are practically dialup.

I always get those speeds from abload, and those suckers aren't caching either for some reason.

And so this post isn't just text, here's a shot of Super Dark Souls 2 Turbo Edition.

All the great GTAV shots make me want to go back to it, but when I do I'm just 'meh'. I'm just burnt out on it I guess. Stupid console version. :(

Those look great!
Thanks! :)

It's a hit & miss, taking screenshots with this game. You think "This is a nice shot!" and before your finger hits F12, some marker is entering the view or a message is displayed which isn't hidden although everything in the hud should be hidden.. But sometimes one gets lucky ;)

(edit) Saw your mordor shots, they look awesome! The reshade definitely helps make the game look more grim.

I really hated the colors in the vanilla game, especially in the first area, but these actually look quite nice.

Thanks guys! Appreciate the feedback. Yeah initially I was wowed when I booted it up, (being my first current gen game and all :-p). but it doesn't exactly have that kind of foreboding atmosphere or sense of dread the LOTR universe should have.
Even some of the orcs didn't look particularly terrifying. Well hopefully I'll have it looking closer to the movie like the EA LOTR games once I'm done. Cheers.

Really like that preset of Shadow of Mordor. It's more realistic according the Mordor of Tolkien.

And good shots guys

Thanks. This shot does a better job of comparing the color preset in the first area of the game. The sunlight's more subdued in mine but I think overall it looks more natural. I was thinking of taking out a touch of red but I don't want it to look completely flat and and a world of browns and blacks. I'll have to see if it looks good in other areas of the game but suggestions are always welcome!

A couple of overworld shot comparisons.

Something weird going on in the background in this one with those transparent mountains. It's in the vanilla shot too.

WOW!
That's fantastic :)
Thanks! :) It was a lucky take, although I wanted to take the shot of a couple of frames before this but hitting the key and taking the shot took half a second and .... it was gone. It still turned out OK, I guess ;)

It's such a shame Ubisoft doesn't hide the mission objective in the HUD even if you hide all hud elements. During missions you go through a lot of beautiful scenery with just the right lighting/ToD, but with that large 'do this' banner in the top left corner. Going back afterwards often doesn't have the same ToD/lighting, making it sadly a time consuming undertaking to get the same shot...

Likely due to fog blended onto the mountains under low lighting, lots of games have this, you can't do much about that I think.

Does reshade come with some dithering shader? I'd use that to get rid of the banding.
