2020 is fucking nuts - have things changed for good?

I almost feel like things have become normalised but every now and then I just realise how insane the period we are living in is even compared to just a few months ago - and that we are just at the start. Sometimes it just pings me how insane everything is, this time just listening to the radio and every single ad mentioned Covid. Even a damn McDonald's ad

Covid wiping out hundreds of thousands
A huge portion of people across the world stuck in their homes
Entire industries shut down
Historically high unemployment, rent and mortgage default
A looming depression/ great recession
Clear signs that those in power don't give a shit, and are completely incompetent from both parties
Mass civil unrest
Highest level of political tension amongst the working class that I've been alive for
I can't even shake peoples hands anymore and social distancing is the new expectation
Plus Kobe died

And yet a few months in its become the new normal. Like the normalcy of life 6 months ago was another lifetime ago.

I keep feeling like things will be back to normal in a month but really we are going to be living with this and the fallout from it for years.

My biggest worry now is the equally incompetent but far more war hawkish Biden government comes into power - who are essentially made up of a lot of George W Bush Never Trumpers. And we get a new war to top it off.

I dont like Trump but I think he is both too independent, too anti war and honestly too cowardly to start a war

I'm going to be quite frank and honest.

I have lost all faith.

I think the worst has yet to come.

Pandemics and riots are just the beginning. We're heading further into a Marxist nation. Lockdowns are happening again. People out of work and heading into poverty with little to no chance of another $1200 on the way anytime soon. Not wearing a mask makes you a criminal in many people's eyes while arson and looting and vandalism are occurring.

I'm on the edge. I can't even take this anymore.

surprisingly enough, 2020 has brought record profits
Not for the regular person. If you're referring to the stock market it has practically no relevance to us peons. The richest 10% of the country owns almost 90% of all stocks.

Guys if you think 2020 is bad then you don’t know what bad is.

This could be 1863, or 1944.
You could be storming a fucking machine gun lined beach full of Nazis (actual Nazis). You could be living in Europe during the Black Death...

Even our worst situation nowadays is still pretty damn good when you look at history.

Of course this pandemic will pass, but it would be a lie to say it won't have had an effect on things going forward. There is no such thing as a static world, regardless of disaster or civil unrest as change is always constant, even before these current events. It is an absolute certainty.

Many have lost their jobs, and while I hope most will get them back, not everyone will and they will be in a different place than before. There will likely be a new emphasis on working at home with the shift in working location and the viability of it. World governments and their policies will make plans going forward in response to viral outbreaks and pandemics. The growth of internet culture while being "cooped up" during this could effect how people interact going forward. There are also other countless things likely to change, and this is only speaking from a societal and cultural level rather than an individual one.

Difference now is, we are destroying ourselves.
I thought this rioting shit was over, then I saw Portland or whatever still doing stupid hippie shit.

If anything I see people starting to look around and question shit more now then before. It is an interesting change for sure. Keep your head up, talk to friends and GAF and go visit nature for a bit if you can. Life is full of ups and downs.

The first half of 2020 was horrible (as was 2019 for me personally), but I kind of dig the second half right now... Let's see how it turns out.

The stupidity of Americans can be summed up in this single post. A Marxist nation? What in God's name are you on about? People are headed into poverty? People have been in poverty for a long time. This situation is just putting a spotlight on the problem. We have idiots in the states literally lining up to sign away what little rights and social protections they have in the name of "capitalism". Idiots that make decisions on things that affect 1% of their life at the expense of the other 99%. Those on this forum who have lived in 3rd world countries can see what is happening. The simple truth of the matter is that in its current state, the United States is nothing more than an over developed banana republic.

Its decline has been quite fascinating but nothing lasts forever. The Romans learned this, the British learned this and soon, youll learn this as your forcefully relegated to irrelevance. A country that was once stood as a pillar for western nations is now nothing more than an embarrassment. The corruption of morals, the poor fiscal policy especially from the GOP, the pursuit of absolute greed has led to a country that is financially hostage to China and rotten at the core with corrupt corporations.

American companies who once created the best products outsourced those jobs to China and other Asian countries to improve profits (greed). The idea of craftsmanship as a concept of the past as companies emphasize profits over quality. Look at GE and Boeing as an example.

You have sacrificed your public education systems at the altar of small governance only to fail to realize the adverse effects it would have on future generations. This is easily highlighted by the serious cognitive deficiencies seen in the average American when compared to an average citizen of other developed nations. It can be seen in the inability to think critically and parse through the extremely biased sources of information. Fox "News"(Absolutely not news), CNN(reality TV, not news) and etcetera have poisoned the political discourse with downright fake news. Its at the point where people are at odds with each other. Self centered-ness drives all decision making and unfortunately, a large amount of the population are far too stupidity to make rational decisions.

All of this is to say that you should be hopeless but, not for the reasons you highlighted in your post. The stupidity and reasoning in your original comment cannot be criticized enough but, the inability to see the bigger picture is far more concerning.

All in all, as an outsider, its been quite fascinating to watch.

If you’re that worried then pack your bags and leave. Plenty of countries got through covid more or less unscathed, and the other virus (the mind virus) is still largely endemic to the US.

"Trump is too anti-war"

Never thought that would be a negative. I guess you want more than the covid death toll to die...

Honestly, this year has been my best one yet. I'm super isolated, living in the countryside. My entire county has had like less than 10 cases. No civil unrest out here either. Work has been a huge improvement over last year (mostly due to no travel and a promotion helped as well).

Unless the economy bottoms out, the recovery will put me in a much better place than when the crisis began.

We’ll adapt. And lol @ Trump being too anti-war, that’s one thing he can get credit for, except he doesn’t understand how our bases around the world help keep the peace.

If things finally get better then the silver lining is that people will be more prepared for the next global crisis and have their ducks in a row.

Stop watching the news and social media.

Yup. Things aren’t good just now but if you submerge yourself in “the discourse” that says everything is leading us down the path to becoming either a white supremacist or Marxist totalitarian state then you’re going to drive yourself crazy.

The human race has been through FAR worse than 2020.

My only concern is that now the powers know what scares us most.

Expect many more pandemics popping up when needed in the future. We have already seen hints of this future with the reports of the Black Death.

A new war would be dope. I made so much money during the Bush and Obama years when we were in 2 wars at the same time.

It's a crazy year for sure. But then again if you look at it from a different perspective, we still have it good. Imagine those older generations that went through war and shit.

I always like to believe that things happen for a reason. 2020 could be the biggest slap in the face the world needed. Whether that is bringing companies back home to their own countries, readdressing foreign relations, or seeing the incompetence of elected officials. We’ll just have to see how it pans out

But those antifas wear the mask tho, but also doing this shit in center of global pandemic, is so galaxy brain shit. But let's keep the darwinisim flowing. Also I find rioting againts mask as stupid, just to point it out. I wear that shit for a year and never had a problem. And it serves me good, because it only shows my upper part of the face, which might be me attractive...

Is there any reason why the billionaire class wouldn't want the government to be communistic? They don't want competition, they have already looted the coffers and they have little desire to invest their "capital" in economic growth. With the exception of outliers like Musk, of course. Musk isn't a finance guy though.

Communist America would make the richest even richer.

Or the one no one remembers anymore.

When asking a family member what it was like to live through it. 'We would ask for shoes for Christmas." .... because they didn't own any.

Change is ever-present. You would think we humans would catch on sooner or later. :p But yeah, it's definitely more dramatic in appearance lately.

That's why the only real way to fight the power is to forego the use of their means of power- money. I can't imagine it happening - people are too dependent on the system, but if people started widespread bartering and hunting/growing their own food, the status quo would crumble. (Only to be replaced right soon with a new structure of power - perhaps mostly identical. :p)

Same here, I've done more to excel myself this year. I do have some more (awesome) checks to tick... they are in the works.

This was already in happening before March, however my focus has become more refined.
