2022 is looking like one of the most eventful years for Playstation in a while

FF16 will definitely be next year. It got delayed from this year, will get a release date announcement by the summer and be out towards the end of 22.

The PS5 has got a much better year than it did in 2021 because most it's best and potentially GOTY games got delayed. Horizon, gran turismo and god of war will be huge! And was also all announced for 2021 like ff16, then delayed.
Their post a few days ago seems like the delay was substancial. Didn't feel like a 2022 release at all but who knows. I hope it is of course.

All i need is for feb 2022 to stick the landing. Dying Light 2 and parkour, Horizon 2 and robo dinos, Elden ring and dying. Everything else is gravy. It really does feel like early 2017.
Hyping it up this month with a Horizon zero dawn replay.

Pretty crazy you have Elden ring, horizon 2, and GT7 all coming out within a month of each other. And forspoken too no? Like that’s too many AAA drops .
It's a shame that chips supply cannot keep up with the demand. Otherwise we would see record sales number of consoles.

And this is a simple screen. The amount of high quality textures in here is insane. How can anyone look at this and say "ew it's cross play"? 99% of the games out there can only dream to look this good, lmao.

Yeah exactly. Good point. Sony developers really go out of their way to fill their games with the best visuals they possibly can.

Ignore the distracters. It’s in their psyche to downplay Sony games.

Its sad platform specific threads turn into this on both sides and its always the usual suspects

That sad I too think GOW looked really nice but man I kept hearing it was going to set the bar visually so I guess I had overhyped myself for it

No matter my most played game this last year was Rocket League so graphics take a back seat to is it fun to play

The game still has a long development till release. I’m sure it’s going to look even better.

All we are seeing is early game play footage and it already looks this good.

"See the PS5 day 1 buyer guy who never in his life had an XBOX because he plays on PC" you mean?

Damn pesky PS5 owners refusing to be excited about the sales numbers of xgen ports and wanting exclusive 1st party games for their console of choice!

Current gaming industry is so sad and not fun. Even fanboys are not fun anymore. There is just not enough ammo for the proper console wars.

I kinda miss the good ol days of basic "list wars" where fanboys would post a ridiculously long lists of exclusives (various in quality ofc) trying to one up each other.

It always allowed me to pick the best for my PS consoles and enjoy some of MS offerings on my PC.

Now new big releases are few and rare and it's all about "sales numbers", "eco system ", "S series is good because more people can enjoy it", "xgen makes more money", "exciting discord integrations".

There's just not enough big exclusive games for the list wars. And it's the only thing I care. Not this marketing fluff some people seems to enjoy now days.

2022 another exciting xgen year.

Are you playing to have fun or you have the console so you can insult other people? Dude get a doctor.... Games are meant to be enjoyed not be ammunition for petty console wars

Hoping to see some of those 25 exclusives you know who promised. The fact they're mostly new IPs is interesting.

Yep. 25 First party games in development and all we have seen are GT7, Horizon, GOW, Spiderman and Wolverine. Where are the 20 other first party games? And how far out are they? Will they even announce them in 2022?

Sony Bend is making 1 of those games. Factions is another. Ok. Who is making the other 18? Especially with SSM, PD, Insomniac and GG busy with these games. And when will they come out? These same studios take 5 years to release one game so are we looking at 2027?

I dont think I have ever been this dejected about a Sony first party lineup. I kept telling myself that these studios had multiple teams working on next gen games but 2021 came and went without them announcing any next gen games outside of the two insomniac titles. Clearly, those multiple teams arent even close to revealing let alone releasing these games so why bother blowing smoke up our asses about this 25 games in dev thing?

While what you're saying may be true to some extent, the screen you're quoting is hardly impressive .. not sure but that could easily pass for the original game on Pro to my eyes.

As excited I am for Ragnarock and Forbidden West, those are still cross-gen games.

I would argue that Starfield is a much bigger deal and is a more exciting year for the Xbox fans and industry as a whole simply because it's a brand new IP with an unlimited budget. Either way, I'll be dipping my toes in all three and it will be a great time.

Ones Sony announced their next big badge of PS5 only titles I think that's when it will be super exciting.

I am curious too see what Naughty Dog has in store and what is the next big deal from Sony Santa Monica for PS5.

Im wondering how sony plan to reveal PSVR2. Will they do a show with a crowd again or will they not bother because of the uncertainty around covid?

I'd rather have them announced when they are mostly done or at least in a state where the devs want to show them off to public unlike other publishers who announce games probably years away that haven't even started development

I mean this is great strategy, but isn't Sony also guilty of it? Case in point: GT7, GoW Rag and HFW

It's because Sony has changed their strategy of showing off their games too early or at least they try not to and of course there are exceptions

Personally I prefer they show their roadmap early just like last gen but they don't have to, they'll still hit 100 million plus consoles sold

Maybe they change it back, who knows

Using this argument then il have to mention Starfield are also dumbed down for series S ( fair point for both sides now doesnt it)

It's my most anticipated game along with Elden Ring.

You see with Elden Ring I know what I am getting 100% but I don't know what I am getting with Starfield yet for some reason there is something super exciting about a brand new IP on a brand new Gen console.

Forbidden West and Ragnarok I also know what I am getting as well. I feel that new IPs are much more exciting personally.

My top 5 are

Starfield
Elden Ring
God of War Ragnarock
Dead Space Remake
Horizon Forbidden West

The DS remake is probably the worst example of something being shown off too early, first dev diary all they had was an incomplete hallway and the game is set to release next year.

That's true but then we can also argue that Series X and PS5 are also going to be dumbed down consoles if the PS5 and Series X Elite for late 2023 rumors are true lol.

I am not too worried about this to be fair. Last of Us 2 runs on ancient hardware from 2013 and looks like a early PS5 title which is quite insane. I have 0 concerns about visuals or performances at this point for both systems

If Sony wanted to hold on to the MLB rights, they had to agree to let MLB make it multi-plat; otherwise MLB would've stripped the license and given it to someone like EA or Take 2.
Sony didn’t have the license to themselves. Microsoft and Nintendo didn’t or couldn’t make an MLB game. If Sony had the MLB license exclusively, there would be no RBI baseball on xbox or switch. Any of the console manufacturers could have made an MLB game at any time. If they saw incentive or had a studio that could.

Sony has the exclusive license for simulation MLB games. RBI Baseball was a mobile arcade game that was then ported to consoles and published by MLB. Sony has had the exclusive since 2006 when MLB granted them the license (after 2005's final EA Sports baseball title) and they renamed their MLB franchise to The Show.

And no, none of the console manufacturers could not have made a simulation MLB game. Sony has the exclusive rights to that. But if they wanted to make an arcade game (like RBI) or MLB Slugfest, they could.

Not true. In 2006, console manufacturers and take two could make an MLB sim. It was not like madden where only EA could. After take two stopped the exclusivity fell to the console manufacturers. Sony was the only one that opted to make a game.

While Mike Ybarra was still with Xbox he 100% told me Sony had exclusive rights to the MLB and MLB stepped in and forced multiplatform

Yup they've had the license for sims exclusively since the first edition of The Show. That's why they renamed the franchise as it was a new era for them with the rights locked down.

And the MLB announcement about the multi-platform release says they extended that deal for multiple years. So basically Sony retains the exclusive ability to make a MLB sim, but MLB will publish it on multiple platforms.

It’s a messy situation. But it’s been this way since 2006. Then around 2012 or so, take two didn’t or couldn’t renew. Microsoft and Nintendo didn’t opt in so technically they had no contract. But that doesn’t mean they couldn’t. It’s not an easy task.

MLB The Show is the longest running baseball video game series. There have been annual installments of the game -- all only available on PlayStation -- since 2006 when it officially became branded as The Show. Other franchises, such as EA Sports' MVP Baseball series, existed until 2005 when MLB exclusively licensed the rights to their games to Take-Two interactive and the main console manufacturers - Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. That forced EA to stop making MLB games.

considering Skyrim got this, I doubt starfield will get that.

They did if the other two console manufacturers didn’t bother opting in. Why would they when they had no game to put out. That’s why MLB themselves put RBI out and it sucked so they went to Sony and said make it multiplat or we gotta allow 3rd party. Sony must have thought it was worth it because they could have said no and it would have taken years for anyone to develop a quality baseball game. We all know how hard it is to get an MLB game right.

I disagree. I think from now one they will have relatively disappointing sales the same way Returnal, Demon's souls and Ratch had disappointing sales compared to what they expected.

Looks like a upresed God of war because it is exactly that. No RT, no GI. Just traditionnal techniques already used on PS4. Even the textures up close are not that good at 4K. Of course God of War on PS4 is already one of the best looking ps4 game there so they start high. But compared to even Demon's souls (running at 60fps), it looks old.

As much as I want FF16 in 2022 from what I been hearing it is a 2023 game and I know this because one of my employees used to work for Square Enix and he still has friends that work there (pr department not development) so words sometimes get around, but we still don't really take to heart.

We also know it's been officially delayed for 6 months due too covid which is most likely will be pushing the game too early 2023. This was published earlier and is known to the public.

Why wouldn't it? We got one picture so far. GOTY right there!!!

Personally I loved the online campaign for FH5 goty since the beginning of the year - even though it’s the 5th installment of a series that never won it - so I’m absolutely dying to see how far the campaign for Starfield Goty goes before it releases.
