I've played 3 excellent games this year, Rebirth being in my top 5 of all time.

FF7 Rebirth

Infinite Wealth

P3 Reload

Stellar Blade was also good and great in places.

Next up Metaphor which is going to be sexy. Then Dragon Quest 3 HD.

There's also Silent Hill 2 Remake which may surprise and will also check out Visions of Mana at some point.

There are too many great games to play, if you look away from GAAS trash, beaten to death super hero flops and IPs that have no ideas left like Star Wars. :messenger_face_screaming:

FFVII Rebirth carried the year for me. Otherwise its been rather meh.

Still have yet to play Erdtree.

Infinite Wealth, Dragon's Dogma 2, SMT VV, Elden Ring's DLC, Earth Defense Force 6, Black Myth Wukong, and there's still the Fall with stuff like Metaphor or DQIII.

Great year imo, at least for me.

Rollercoaster GIF
some good but lots of garbage.

What's coming in 2025?
Personally? Mh wilds and gta6 automatically make it the best year of the gen.

Hades 2 final release
Probably at least one big sony game, maybe even 2...(Sorry but i could not give less fucks about 2024 astrobot)
All the promising chinese\koreans stuff like phantom blade and especially crimson desert.
Fucking fable finally
Probably silksong for people who gives a fuck about it

Other stuff that i can't remember because i have a shit memory.

There hasn't been much for me. But I've been fine with that, I've gotten through some of my backlog (not nearly all of it though).

We could be looking at a AAA flop clean sweep this fall. Concord, Outlaws, Shadows, Veilguard. Its glorious to watch.

What are you talking about?
The big profile games I really wanted to see fail failed even more spectacularly than I´d hoped and we got a bunch of actually great games with more to come.

Great year, if you`re not a AAA development manager.

Nah, lots of other great games

Helldivers 2
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Rise of the Ronin
Stellar Blade

First half was great.

Second half really depends on AstroBot and Indiana Jones for me. Astro looks like GOTY material and I'm cautiously optimistic about Indy

It is a strange year in that there's no big standout AAAA caliber title, though

So kind of a "mid" year, but mid ain't bad
Yeah sadly those games didn't do it for me

Mid year.
I think Sony has done a decent job leveraging third party this year. However, their scheduling forecasting for this year 2024 was obviously poor to go an entire year without a full on 1st Party. Whatever the reason- its bold. Maybe hoarding for PS Pro or just internal delays has alot dumping into 2025.
While not all of Sony's excusive offerings do it for me this year- i recognize their success. Only Helldivers 2 and MLB have hit with me this year.

Switch has been mid
Xbox non-existent.

I'm thinking 2025 could be pretty bonkers.

Not going to rank among the best years, but it's been pretty good.

I've enjoyed:
  • Ghost of Tsushima (PC)
  • Senua's Saga: Hellblade II
  • Alan Wake II DLC
  • Still Wakes the Deep
  • Nobody Wants to Die
  • Little Kitty, Big City
Looking forward to:
  • Final Fantasy XVI (PC)
  • Starfield: Shattered Space
  • Silent Hill 2
  • The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
  • Indiana Jones and the Great Circle

It's been a pretty fine year, but yes much of it was front stacked and has felt more barren lately. We need Astrobot. Could have used a big game in place of Concord to keep the pace:

Ronin
Unicorn
P3
Vengence
Tekken
Rebirth
Erdtree
Stellar Blade
Monke
Balatro
TTYD
Investigations Collection
Another Code: Recollection
Dominus collection

Not bad honestly, and that's not even nearly all of them. I can live with it.

I'm hoping metaphor and dragon quest will save the year for me.

My issue is I'm at a point in my later years in gaming where a game being good just isn't enough. What I mean by that is something like Wu Kong initially was good fun, but then I got bored. A game that I really like has to keep my attention from start to finish.

BG3 or Witcher 3 I think are good games but I dropped both at 50 hours for example.

So far the only thing this year I've completed is Erdtree.

I need a poll option in between mid year and best year.
In hasn't been the best year ever but it has been a pretty solid year so far.

Helldivers 2, Balatro, Infinite Wealth, Rebirth, Unicorn Overlord, Stellar Blade, Animal Well, SMTV: Vengeance, Kunitsu-Gami, Another Crab's Treasure, Wukong, Shadow of the Erdtree, etc
And the second half isn't looking half bad with stuff like Astro Bot, Space Marines 2, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 and more-

As much as I enjoyed Erdtree this year wow has this year sucked.

So many dropped games that can't hold my attention.

I hope this fall saves us.
Didn't the new WoW xpac just come out? Isn't it good?
There's some great stuff this year, as with most years, but this is definitely the year of failed GAAS titles. Crazy that we've gotten so many huge failures this year alone.

Ok, dying here, ngl.
No kidding! We are getting JRPG back to back and just recently got Visions of Mana and fucking LOVING that game.

This game is fucking gorgeous and damn fun to play.

Season 17 What GIF by America's Got Talent

How did I miss this game? Please tell me the plot is at least normal and not "sugoi, kimochi" level?

Wow expansion is good. Got a little into it and then dropped it.

It's a me issue.

Just a mid year

worst year this gen was 2022 nothing I wanted to play came out that year at all a lot of disappointments and overrated stuff

It's been a very good year if you actually enjoy playing games more than complaining about how there isn't anything to play on gaming forums. All the stuff I've had a blast playing this year:

Prince of Persia
Tekken 8
Infinite Wealth
Helldivers 2
FF VII Rebirth
Unicorn Overlord
Rise of the Ronin
Stellar Blade
Animal Well
Shadow of the Erdtree (GOTY)
Dragon's Dogma 2
Kunitsu-Gami
Wukong
Darkest Dungeon 2
System Shock

And I'm not even including remasters/rereleases like Tomba! Tomb Raider Trilogy, Jeanne D'Arc etc. In September alone I'm getting Astrobot, Warhammer and Plucky Squire. October brings Silent Hill 2, Metaphor and Shadows of the Damned remake, haven't even looked at Nov/Dec, I have way too much to play as is.

So it really comes down to:

1. Cynical gamers who have lost their passion for this hobby

2. One-dimensional gamers who only play one or two different genres (I would hope there aren't many of those on a "hardcore" gaming forum).
Basically my list. Idk how people are saying this is a shit year.
