I don't know is it really that small?Yeah, the 25" LG would be way too small IMO. That's the equivalent of a 19" 16:9 screen, right?

Would a GTX 970 be enough to drive a 21:9 3440x1440 screen at full detail, or would I need a 980? Or when my GPU can't handle the game, is it possible (without scaling/blurring) to play in 2560x1440 with black bars on the sides?
I'm tired of my 23" 1080p monitor, but don't want to bleed too much money on a GPU with all those nextgen architectures coming out next year
just asking coz I don't know, if you played a game like the order on a monitor like that would the bars still be there? i think they would since it's just part of the game itself![]()
This thread is to discuss the latest news with 21:9 monitors, support for games and buying options.
Why would I opt for a 21:9 monitor?
There are several benefits of 21:9 over 16:9/16:10/4:3, the most obvious is the screen real estate, being double the resolution of one 4:3
at 1280x1024 gives you a great cinematic experience that is very engrossing, especially for games such as FPS, TPS and racers
where the wider resolution can help with the FOV. A lot of games can support it through configs and most recent games have adopted
the new format.
The best place to get help with 21:9 gaming: http://www.wsgf.org/
You can also try: http://www.flawlesswidescreen.org/
Play games in 21:9 right now
Most PC games have config files, which allow you to set custom resolutions, if you want tot try it out on your 1920x1080 you can set
the resolution at 1920x810. Source games are quite easy to make these changes, other games may vary. Or if you have a Nvidia card
use the desktop resize option, there should be a same utility for AMD cards. Use the links above for more details on support.
Overall the benefits of 21:9:
Here is an example of the benefit of 21:9 compared to 16:9 and 4;3
- Great for gaming, TPS, FPS and racing games are amazing at this aspect ratio
- Best cinematic experience you can get
- Gets rid of bezels for dual/tri monitor set-ups
- Support for latest games is getting a lot better
- Prices are getting somewhat cheaper

So who shouldn't get a 21:9 monitor?
- People who play console games only
- People who hate black bars for games stuck in 16:9 mode
Current King of 21:9 Monitors:
LG 34" 3440x1440 (LG-34UM95) Linus Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnrxNfxRK_4
AOC and DELL are making 34" 3440x1440 versions, these are not out yet, cheaper 29" models can be found - but are at 2560x1080

was glad you can do this on an lg monitor. it automatically resizes and crops the screen.
this screenshot is from someone else. I also tried Last of Us and it is quite good (not too much is cut off)

ah, that is fuckin cool man. This is what the order looks like.
I see, thank you for explaining but as the screenshot shows, the grain of salt taken proved to be just falsely alarmed precaution =]Depends on the use of the bars. I would imagine, that since The Order uses them to cut resolution down, that it'd be Anamorphic (I think that's the term) and it would fit just fine. But if it's an effect overlayed on the screen in post, like a prerendered cutscene in a game that is usually full-screen, but has bars during certain scenes, then it would still show the bars.
In other words, it shouldn't show the bars for the order. But grain of salt.
Unless the PS4 gets the option to output in a 21:9 resolution you'll be stuck with black bars on all sides. This is what the order looks like.
Any 21:9 monitors with G-Sync? I want to get one, but my next monitor has to have g-sync.
Is it IPS? Otherwise looks like the perfect monitor.
Well i folded and bought a 34um65-p instead of the um95, or the AOC monitor that's coming out soon.
LOVING IT!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone able to find the Dell UltraSharp U3415W for around 900 bucks new? I saw one close to 900 last week and didn't think to pull the trigger and now I can't find a good deal under 1000 dollars.
Any help greatly appreciated! I feel I NEED this monitor lol, unless someone knows of a better one coming before Witcher 3.
I thought about the LG model but I don't like the non tilt or height adjustable stand.
To get Diabo 3 running in 21:9 you have to run in a fullscreen window.
I tried that, but it isn't working for me. Can anyone try on their system and verify that it still works? Saw other people saying it used to work, but is now just stretching whatever resolution is set in Diablo 3 settings.
I wondered how long it was going to take you to get a 21:9 OT going
Those LGs have been back in stock in the UK last week and are already selling like hot cakes.
Of course pics look nice but videos really sell the aspect ratio (excuse my awful DS skills but no hud makes the game a teeny bit harder)
Dark Souls 21:9
Dead Space Intro 21:9
Try switching from windowed to fullscreen windowed. I think that used to fix my stretching problem.
Just purchased the Dell UltraSharp U3415W will be here Friday! Should be all ready to go by the time The Witcher 3 hits!
How did you get Dark Souls to run 21:9? I did a custom res of 1920x810, booted up DS and chose it in settings, but all I get is a black screen.
ah, that is fuckin cool man.

So essentially you need this program.

And if the Dark Souls plugin isn't upto date have a look here.

Looking at the last update version it's dated March so I guess it's working again now. You'll need to replace the updated plugin in the WSF plugins folder. Then configure the plugin manually for 1 display and the presentation resolution you will use and then set the rendering and presentation resolutions in DSFix, Durante's mod which has a big thread here with links to the latest version and how to configure it, and you should be good to go.
Amazon has them for 969.00$ right now. I'm so close to biting on this. I know it's 60hz, only has display port 1.2 and an 8ms response time, but I simply love Dell display aesthetics stand/build quality compared to other brands.
Just to put into perspective what an upgrade this would be for me, I'm currently using a Dell 2100fp I bought in 03'. It's 1600x1200 4:3 ratio Ultrasharp with a noticeable antiglare coating and an 18 ms response time. It's a tank though and still runs great.
If this was freesync compatible I probably would have already bought it. I've been looking at the 34 inch Acer coming as well as some other models, but I'm just kind of torn at the moment as it's a chunk of money and if you can't tell, I'll be sticking with the monitor for years to come.
Pulled the trigger. I couldn't wait and I do love Dells aesthetics/build quality and also their menu and colors. I absolutely love it except I got a dud I think. I was having issues with horizontal distortion/snow popping up from time to time on both mdp and dp inputs. There was also sometimes an audible pop from the speaker when it was happening. I'm guessing something is wrong in the wiring. I'm sending this one back but having another sent to me because I need it now, can't go back after gaming on this type of screen.

Man, hate hearing you had issues. Hopefully your new one shows and everything works. If it does turn out to be a gfx card issue...ouch.
*edit* I love seeing screenshots in this format. Heres some SoM I took tonight goofing around.
Dark Souls requires Widescreen Fixer to get different aspect ratios to work and DSFix to get arbitrary rendering resolution as well. Though as of the Steamworks Patch Widescreen Fixer compatibility was broken but Helifax and HaYDen, the people who wrote the plugin for it, did say on WSGF.org that they'd fix it when the patch was out of beta and released.

Hahaha now I realise that's a lot to take in but if you have any problems getting it set up give me a shout.
