21:9 Gaming Thread | That cinematic feel

Well, My box showed up like this...

Luckily, the contents were fine.

I really like these screens also. I think I'd go for one instead of 4k for sure, especially for gaming.

I found a 'budget' solution that I am really happy with though - three monitors. I have an old 22" 1680x1080 Samsung, a 27" 1920x1080 LG (which I got for the cheap passive 3D support initially), and a 24" 1920x1200 Dell (main screen for productivity/work), and placing them at the right distances (the bigger ones a bit to the back) I can run my GTX 970 in 3 screen surround mode at a resolution of 5000x1050, and that works surprisingly well. I even angle them to envelope me a little bit more. Racing games and flight sims are great of course, but something like Far Cry 3 is amazing too. You're really in that forest. And it covers almost the entire field of view from left to right.

Probably not new, but may be worth considering if you can't afford a screen like in this thread just yet. Decent 1080p screens are to be had for less than $100 now so you can easily get three of those for under $300.

Here's my setup, not perfect yet (early video), but this is the first time the world is almost 'actual size' for me in a game.

Yeah, I very nearly went with three 1600x900 monitors in portrait, but thought that one 3440x1440 display would probably suffice.

OK, I having some trouble getting Mass Effect to play nice with my monitor.

The title screen appears with all of the options appearing on the far right. So far the I'm only seeing the first couple of letters of each option.

I installed Flawless Widescreen but it just made the issue worse, now I can't see any of them.

Any ideas?

Try Widescreen Fixer, it's similar to Flawless and I just checked my version and their is a plugin for each Mass Effect game.

How cool. I stumbled across this thread while doing a search. Nice to meet ya all.

Forrest, how do you get your SOM shots to work in portrait mode? Really cool shots btw

After reading this thread (and the one dedicated to the new Predator) I tried messing around with resolutions on my Rog (2560x1440) to test 21:9; well, it's as great as I imagined. Losing vertical resolution when gaining peripheral view is not a bad deal (tested some games running in 2560x1080).

And it's a great work-around for games with bad FOV.

Any news on that Acer Predator XR341CK? I try to find anything on the thing and come up with nothing. =/

If you don't mind me asking, how you did it? It's not as easy as simply creating a 21:9 custom resolution, is it?

Thanks! I just use photo mode built into the game and just rotate rotate the camera.

Downloaded it, but not working the way I need it to...

Hmm, no clue man. I haven't tried any of them yet. I just noticed Mass effect in the game list. I actually had to change a setting on my Dell to get Diablo 3 to work. Have you tried screen ratio settings for your monitor while running Fixer?

I used to play games in 21:9, but now I can't. I'm not sure if it was switching to Windows 8(.1) or going from an HDMI switcher to a Denon receiver that did it, but I can no longer create custom resolutions in Nvidia Control Panel (every one I try is "unsupported"), and the GPU Scaling setting can't be applied, it just goes back to "Display scaling" when I hit Apply.

lol i did the same thing the other day

i made a custom resolution at 2560x1080 and tried 2 games, and neither worked w/o patching. decided it wasnt worth the hassle. i was really close to ordering it, had it in my cart and the money at the ready.

i have a 2560x1600 dell 30" from 2008, it has several problems, such as a slight buzz emitting from the back(hard to hear) and runs prettty hot, but this seems like a common issue for that display. i can't justify buying a new monitor even though i really want to b/c i paid so much for it and it does look pretty amazing. i just have such an upgrade itch.

when it dies i'll def get a 21:9 though. hopefully 21:9 doesn't die out, but prospects look good as new models keep coming out.

yup just make a custom resolution. i had to turn off gpu scaling as well.

welp, couldn't help myself and ordered one. saw a like new/seller refurbished 29" LG for $289.99 from a big ebay seller. checked out their website/facebook, and they were running a special, 10% off items on their store with xxx code.

bought the LG for $260 shipped. arrives on thursday. free shipping back/30 day return policy as well.

excited to check it out. i can't help but love the 21:9 AR, so fantastic in the games that support it.

Been a while since I've posted in here but one of the first things I do when configuring a new titles or just replaying them is see what the 21:9 options are like. A few more recent titles are having support out of the box.

And while some have partial support or a few quirks there's some scope to getting them corrected

Any idea why Greenshot would be doing this while taking screenshots in 21:9?

Also, since Greenshot seems to not work well with this aspect ratio, what's a good, free screenshot tool?

I also tried to play this a few days ago but I was also unable to fix it. In the end I decided that it wasn't worth the effort (already played it back in 2008). Shame, though.

I'm also using a ROG swift to do this 21:9 ratio and I'm lovin it, I'm like a higher FOV and it does solve this problem in 3rd person games with a shitty FOV

Those new 21:9 G-Sync Monitors which got announced recently look very good, I was dead set on getting one of them.
But my current monitor decided that now - a few months before those come out - would be a good time to die on me :(

Now I need one to tide me over until those new Models come out...

Which cheap, size whatever, 2560x1080 (1440 is probably not a good idea for a single GTX 970) would you guys recommend?
There are a few which fit the bill on Amazon, but it's really hard to decide.

How different are those from each other?
- LG 29UM55-P.AEU
- Asus MX299Q
- Asus PB298Q
- Acer CB290Cbmidpr

Planning to jump in with this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Q7VCSGU/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Will I face any problems running a game in windowed mode 1080p to get 60 fps in particularly hard to run games or would that look too small on a 3440x1440p 34" monitor?

In my experience (I have the LG monitor linked in the OT) it looks strange. I'd keep the aspect ratio the same -> full-screen -> force FXAA (if it isn't already in the game as its really cheap performance wise).

What's considered the best 34" right now?

If you are OK w/waiting I'd get Acer Predator XR341CK 34 or its Asus counterpart (same specs for the most part). These will have Gsync built in which is really helpful for those not running SLI 980s or higher as these resolutions have about a million more pixels than your standard 1440p.
MSRP ~1200

Why no one's making 29inch 2560x1080 144hz g-sync monitor? Or without g-sync. It would make much more sense than that benq.

Hopefully ASUS can do the same with theirs. I'm wary of buying an Acer, but if it's the only option...

Dunno about reliability, but the Acer's design/branding looks pretty bad so I would also be glad if ASUS could manage the same specs.

If Panny or Sony ever make a 65 inch, 24/60Hz HDMI, 120Hz variable refresh Display port, 21:9, 4:4:4 RGB, OLED, I'd pay Six Thousand USD for that.

I'm starting to notice that Windows RT games and Apps (Windows 8 and 10 apps) scale better to 21:9 than Win32 programs and games.
