21:9 Gaming Thread | That cinematic feel

Thanks for the tip! Will try this out after work tonight.

Flawless Widescreen fixes a lot of issues with certain games. if you have a widescreen monitor you plan on gaming on, it is a definite must. A lot of games support 21:9 resolution, but HUD/etc are sometimes off. Most of the time that happens Flawless Widescreen has a fix. Or at least their forums do like in the Witcher 3, for example.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
There any patches/mods for Overwatch support? Kinda disappointed in that one.

Blizzard removed support as they felt it gave an unfair advantage. Users had stated it did exist in the Beta, but they changed that option right before launch.

Downloaded on my work computer just to see the interface, seems amazingly straight forward and simple to use. Excited to try Doom again tonight, maybe the fix will stop me from getting a headache this time around too.

Nah they didn't say that. They also said they would consider adding it back in if there were enough requests.

Just upgraded to a GTX 1080 and bought a Samsung S34E790C (3440x1440)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Q7VCSGU/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Upgraded from a 23" 1080p monitor to that. I'm loving everything about it right now
The only thing that really dissapoints me about the monitor are the viewing angles and that I can't zoom in the image. Would have loved to have watched Blu Rays via my PS4 with the image filling the entire screen

Anything I need to know about 21:9?

Just out of curiosity, what is considered too much backlight bleed on these IPS ultrawides? I think I'm obsessing over nothing because I only notice it when doing a test for it, but I'm just curious.

Make sure to set the response time on the monitor to standard, any faster and you get ghosting. Also calibrate the display, it's got pretty bad calibration out of the box.
Search wsgf for 21:9 game fixes, get flaweless widescreen and widescreen fixer, that's pretty much it.

How do I go about calibrating it? Is there a recommended program?

I really hope these XBOX ONE cross buy games will support 21:9 ... but if Forza / Quantum Break is anything to go by, they won't :(

I would preorder instantly if they would implement 21:9 for FH3. But I have a bad feeling nothing will happen until September.

What do you have your weapon FOV slider set at if I may ask? I can't seem to get it just perfect.

When I get back to my PC tomorrow I'll check for you. I only changed it a little if I recall correctly.

I am optimistic Microsoft fixes a lot of the play anywhere problems. They have said they are adding options for V-Sync and the like to new releases. we will see if that actually happens.

I had to put fov at 90 to remove all weapon distortion.

The flawless widescreen fix let's you tinker with it to remove distortion from higher FOV, but I can't seem to get it exact.

Also, started playing the original Dead Space today and was shocked to see it had native 21:9 support, and looks absolutely stunning.

I leave flawless fov adjustment at default, set in game fov to 90 and ratio to 21:9 and resolution to 3440*1440. This is the best settings I have found to remedy any stretching or distortion.

:D
No 4k60 though? He said it would only support 4k at 30fps. What's that about?

Must just be misunderstanding. He also says that the Xbone S can handle 4K, which isn't 100% true. It can't output games natively at that res, but it can play 4K movies.

Perhaps the demo PC could only handle the game at 4K 30FPS, in other words, there wasn't a strong enough GPU to get it past 30.

EDIT: Ninja'd

Moved from one G-Sync to another. 16:9 to 21:9.

Acer XB271HK to Asus PG348Q. 27" 4K 60Hz to 34" 3440x1440.100Hz. Slight resolution loss but significant screen estate physical size gain.

I really want to upgrade from my 24 inch 1080p 16:9 Viewsonic. What do you guys think is the best bang for the buck 21:9 monitor currently?

2560x1080 or 3440x1440?

Plenty of recommendations at this link: https://www.monitornerds.com/best-curved-ultrawide-gaming-monitors-2016/

The pinnacle being the Acer Predator X34/X34P variant and the Asus ROG Swift PG348Q for gaming, The folks at http://www.144hzmonitors.com/ and http://tftcentral.co.uk/ are also good reference sources.

Anyone here try Wolfenstein TNO in 21:9? Runs great for me except the pop ups stick to the side of the screen and don't go away. Flawless widescreen didn't fix it either.

Bought a Z35 today. Loving Gsync, ULMB and the aspect ratio, but this is a bit hard to ignore:

That cinematic feeling indeed. Stupid panel lottery. Don't think I've ever seen worse backlight bleed, so this will be going back. A real shame.

Is that really a completely black screen? (Have you lowered the brightness in the display settings?) I took a photo of a reference black screen in Chrome with my iphone camera (sorry for the shitty quality - I suck at photos):

Doesn't look that bad imo. I have never noticed backlight bleeding in actual games.

Anybody here that also has their PS4/Wii U/Xbox One connected to a 3440x1440 screen? I'm probably going to buy a Dell U3415w but I'm unsure how 1080p games will look on the screen. I'd rather not keep my 27" 1080p screen on my desk just for console gaming since it would take up so much space.

I plan on playing Legion, No Man's Sky, indie games the next few months so I hope my SLI 970's will be good enough for that. I'll buy a new GPU in october/november for Deus Ex, Mafia 3, Horizon 3.

The x34 has the option to display them at 1080p or scale the image to 1440p. Either way you get black bars on the left and right of the image and 1080p gives you them above and below too. Its very playable still. I've been smashing in destiny and halo recently on at scaled 1440o

Okay that's cool that you have the option for 1080p or scaling to 1440p. I don't mind the black bars.

Anyone have a 34" 21:9 monitor with a 2560x1080 resolution? I heard the lower pixel density makes standard viewing terrible. I was thinking about getting one just because it would allow me to push graphics settings far higher and mantain my framerate compared to 3440x1440 versions.

So I bought a LG 34UC88-B recently for $725 and I'm absolutely in love with it. Going from my nearly 10 years old 20.1" 16:10 NEC 20WMGX2 1680x1050 monitor to this 34" 21:9 3440x1440 monitor has been a crazy experience. I'm absolutely loving playing FFXIV and Civ5 on it (can't wait for Civ 6), though my GTX 970 can't hold 60 fps in FFXIV without turning a few things down.

I'm hoping that the AMD Vega's or whatever the RX 490s are turn out well and have a decent price, because I'd like to take advantage of the FreeSync on it. Base refresh rate for it is only 55-75hz, but it's super easy to edit the settings and get it to 40-75 (and maybe 80 with OCing).

Also - it has almost no Backlight Bleed at all. I'm so glad I went with this monitor after checking out reviews on it. The only place it's ever visible is a tiny bit in the lower left-hand corner.

I could never go back to a 16:9 desktop after this. So worth it.

just depends on how far you sit away, i use a lg 34um57 and have no problems at all. at the time i had to pay double for 1440p and no freesync

Doom does stretch the player model as fov increases. Try setting fov to minimum in the settings. There was also a fix linked on the previous page I think.

It does? Doom looks totally fine for me with the aspect ratio configured to 21:9 in 3440x1440.

Or are you talking 'bout an curved monitor issue?
