Discussion amongst GAF members within the confines of a "24" thread about a television show other than "24" is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.
First offenses result in a warning. Second offenses will result in torture, performed exclusively by Jack Bauer. A third offense will result in death by lethal injection, after which the corpse will be defecated upon.
All lesser shows shall not remain within sniffing distance of a "24" thread.
Going a little off topic, but after going through marathon sessions watching 'The Shield' the previous week (S1 & S2 on DVD, torrents of S3 - I have the S3 DVD set pre-ordered), I had an epiphany.
I'm surprised to say it, but 'The Shield' is the better series for me. It has the advantage of having a significantly shorter season, which cuts out a lot of potential filler, but it's got better writing, acting and a better setting. '24' would probably be as good if it was limited to 15 or so episodes, considering the amount of filler that's needed to eek out 24 episodes.
Anyway, Mackey Power 4 Lyfe (!), even though Jack's still the man and 24's the best show on free TV.
1 . Jack getting hit by the car and continuing to shoot. I assume that this is possible for the elite few who have studied and trained to do this. It reminds me of the scene in Heist where the guy runs into the car on purpose.
I was so pissed when Behrooz's uncle called his dad cause u could see it coming a mile away. Also, I thought Jack has shown the accuracy before to take the shot on the dad with the amount of space in between behrooz and his father, which was quite a bit at times
that said I really enjoyed:
1) Tony showing that punk CTU guy who is boss
2)Bauer getting hit by car and then taking out a tire
I wish Edgar had told that bitch Discroll to fuck off. And is Chloe now dead as far as the show is concerned. I mean the focused on Sarah's arrest and torture more than Chloe who is on her second season.

Is it just me, or did anyone else feel more empathy for Edgar and his situation than just about any other character's family troubles? I felt really bad for him.
Edgar as a field agent... hmm, mix 24 with Columbo... I think CBS has it's hot new series!
Honestly, I think edgar is going to jail by the end of the season for helping the Mole get her security clearence...and then coming back next season as the only person that Jack trusts!
What was the final line of the show? Someone repost it, I kinda missed what she said. I know it was significant, but I forget exactly what she said. PEACE.

I do not remember it verbatim. Something along the lines of "I am just helping you to save my son, I am true to my cause, if you do not save my son, I will be happy to see the reactors meltdown".
Great ep, got to watch it this morning at breakfast... one slip my other half noticed... Jack tells Tony that the father has shot the brother in law... except on screen we never heard the conversation where Jack found out that the man at the hospital was the brother in law, didn't the mom just say he was at the hospital? I actually didn't even catch that until we rewound it to listen again.
Jack is f'n bad ass that's just all there is to it.... all through out the ep whenever he talks to anybody whatever he says, it just gets done... even when he was talking to Driscoll it seemed more like HE was the boss, not her.

Yeah man, it was a great ep, and it wasn't all about guns blazing and shit either. Just a good development/filler episode. In the previous seasons, these transitional eps usually sucked. They usually featured the president and his crappy side-stories, but the side-story of the Araz family kicks ass. I mean, it's from strength to strength so far this season. I haven't been disappointed yet. 9 hours in, and every hour has been solid IMO. This season reminds me a lot of Season 2. And to think I once thought they should have cancelled the show after the first season. :lol I didn't think they could have topped the first season, but they've got some good writers for this show. That and counter-terrorism almost writes itself *cough* Tom Clancy *cough*. PEACE.
Anyway, does anyone think Tony will betray Jack? This is my first season watching 24, so I don't really know how their relationship is, but it seems like Tony has a suspicious look to his face when the camera focuses on him.

Seriously this season is one of the best seasons yet. Like a poster said above, even the side stories / filler episodes are great. There's no build up to "well it will get good in a few episodes"... its awesome now.
Great episode, and I too laughed out loud at the last line. A few key points that have to be made.
- If Shoreh is not nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Emmys this season, I am seriously going to kill someone. This is the first time that there has been a real chance for a supporting character to be nominated for something (Outside of the distant chances of Haysbert getting a nod for playing Palmer in the first couple of seasons). Her acting has been absolutely stellar in that role, and her character has remained interesting throughout. Her original creepy qualities were amazingly well acted, and now we see her vulnerability of her son...and her final line was absolutely amazing. It was emotional enough to express her concern for her son, while at the same time managing to remind us how evil she is. I don't care if it sends the American Muslim communities into an uproar is a woman portraying a terrorist is awarded for it, but it is leagues better than anything else on TV right now. With Drea dead, the West Wing sputtering out, and none of the Lost cast really standing out from a drama perspective (Although we might see Jorja Fox get a nomination for her "special" episode of CSI recently) I think there is more than enough room for Shoreh in the category, and it would bring a great amount of justice to the situation.
- Although this is, traditionally, where things start to slow down, I don't believe that now is when we can judge how well they handle this. Yes, the initial stage of Heller's kidnapping is over, but that was a much shorter initial stage than ever before. Usually, the initial stages are carried out at LEAST until the 13th hour (The traditional midseason point). Now, though, we're dealing with a situation where we're in Hour 9, and I'd argue the usual transition period has not begun yet. The Arraz family, you see, still remains a key point of the storyline. It's an interesting one that I LOVE, but it still keeps us in that initial period that always seems to go well in every season of 24 (Except for 3, it actually got better as time went on). It seems well-written, and wel-focused. It will be once their situation is resolved that we must worry about the traditional transitional lull.
- Edgar's mother seems like a moot point, but they had to make sure that people realize that, although Jack is kicking ass in a parking garage, the Nuclear fallout is heading for a hundred thousand people. I think it was necessary to link it to someone in CTU personally in order to make sure that we, as the viewer, don't simply feel the meltdown's effects through a TV Screen at CTU. We need to actually see its effects, and I think that Edgar's mother provided this. If they continue to drag it out though, I won't be so understanding of the otherwise unimportant and one-note story point.
- Tony being bad would be a serious issue for me, because it wouldn't make any sense. First off, that is his normal look. Second, Tony had no idea Jack would ever call him. Yes, Tony could be harbouring some sort of secret about what he's been doing since he was sent out of prison, but I do not think it is possible that he is knowingly leading Jack on and drawing him into a trap, or anything silly of that nature. There are still questions to be raised...
- Now, I'll put this in spoiler tags, because I'll admit to being slightly spoiled and thus anticipated a few things and a few things to come, so highlight at your own peril (Not major story details or anything, more in regards to characters).
I was aware of the return of Tony due to a casting spoiler earlier this year. Thus, when Jack said he was calling someone, I automatically assumed Tony. By the same report, the return of Michelle is also to come. Considering that they are speaking of Division moving in and trying to figure out where the mole came from, I'd say we have a little Michelle coming out way in terms of the person who comes to oversee that investigation. Which means we'll also likely see Michelle/Tony awkwardness, barring some sort of death or further field work (They've got to get back to CTU at some point, the transition needs to happen).
On the whole, it was a very good episode, with some really good acting, a good handling of making the meltdown resonate...but I worry about what we'll see next week. Your preview talk makes me think that Jack gets in some action, which is good, because this is really setting up a "Jack sits outside the door and negotiates for an episode before the entire thing was for nothing and the suspect dies or gets away" scenario that we've seen in past season. But, who knows. I'll be watching an episode of 24 live for the first time this season next week...without HDTV it will seem so cramped!

Jack lowers down into the basement, Mission impossible style. He is then hiding behind a corner when the dad and Behrooz are. Jack is being very quiet as to not attract attention. Then his equipment makes a noise, Jack gets an "OH FUCK" look on his face and the dad comes toward where Jack is standing. From what I can tell from the preview is does not seem like this sequence takes very long at all, but I could be wrong.
Yeah Edgar is pretty awful as far as acting goes but that scene with his mom on the phone was pretty damn touching -- almost teared up there admittedly. As far as Behrooz's uncle calling the dad being predictable.. I agree to a certain extent, but I figured we'd find out he was secretly in on it not that he'd just end up being an unintentional accomplice.
WE NEED A BIG 24 THREAD!!!
It would be so much more fun. And people like me don't watch the show on Mondays. Grr. Stupid GAF.
Anyway, pretty good episode.
A transition episode for sure.
(my speculations ahead)
Navi proving that he's a badass!! Scary dude.
I have a feeling Behrooz is gonna kick his ass though. And Behrooz' mom probably isn't going to last much more longer. Personally, if I were Behrooz, I'd still be mad at mommy for killing the cute girlfriend, but whatever...
I really felt for Edgar's mom. Very sad. Poor Edgar - the nerd deserves more respect. And Driscoll is still a bitch; she could've at least comforted him. But that's ok, her daughter is probably gonna get kidnapped by that mole girl anyway (when mole girl regains conciousness). They're practically in the same room aren't they? Convenient.
Yeah, he got hit by a car. But at least they had him limping a bit after that. But of course Jack can just shake that crap off.
By the way. I got some of my co-workers and their roommates to finally check out Season 4. Everybody seemed to love it, and had nothing but positive stuff to say today. Guy at work said all his roommates were cheering Jack on after he shot out the tires. :lol
Episode 9 felt more like a filler to me as well, but it was still awesome. Even the filler episodes have those great moments, either in the first or last 5 minutes.

I noticed this too. But at least it didn't really affect what happened; they would have done the same regardless of whether or not they knew specifically who the guy was. So it doesn't bother me too much.
But, yeah, great episode. The last line was awesome.
Yeah I can't wait to see how they resolve that, and hopefully we'll find out who the son told. I feel like there's another character with an unresolved storyline.... the hacker kid who first discovered the stuff on the net.... whatever happened to him?

That's right, He was about to die but Jack came back for him after hearing Chloe whine for a little bit. He slid down the side and shot both of them (it's someone's avatar) and then told them to dispatch an ambulance to the scene before he drove off to find that guy. (This was before the kiwimart incident)

I thought of this as well but I just figured that while not onscrean the lady told them her brother works there. I think more of a slip is when the guard said that that their was a shooting Jack called Tony or someone and told them that her brother was shot. It could have been anyone getting shot. At least that what I remember. And yeah, next weeks episode looks good.
