343 addresses ongoing Halo MCC Matchmaking issues

Reduced price for Halo 5 isn't happening.

I can imagine free season pass for Halo 5 map packs. That'd be good or just give it for free, period. As it should be regardless.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Our primary and continued focus is first on fixing the issues at hand. Once we’ve done that, we will detail how we will make this right with our fans.

Strange that this would happen to Halo and Ms, since so much has been made about their servers, online play and online stability in general. It just shows that it can happen to any dev or publisher

Instead of lip service and promises of some sort of "make good" I'd have a lot more respect for 343/MS if they pulled the damn game from the store, at least digitally, when they are acknowledging that it is broken. Same with Sony and DC.
Yup and it's pretty shameless of them to keep advertising the game like they have when it doesn't fucking work.

They ain't giving shit for free. You'll get some exclusive armor for Halo 5 or something stupid like that. Hope I'm wrong but we've seen what companies like Dice have done for "makeups".

Just saw a trailer for it on Monday Night football lol.

so are any sites adjusting their review scores or just continuing to base their reviews on nostalgic memories they have of playing mp on the original xbox and xbox 360 versions?

It doesn't matter, Metacritic doesn't update scores.

Has Kotaku covered this? Didn't they say just the other week they were going to focus on games post release instead of pre-release?

that's pretty lame...although some people will actually go read the full reviews so at least those people will see that the warnings about the online

The update that does come after WEEKS better fix the whole damn game. Also, I don't think this is getting as much coverage as it should.

So is the online population.

Halo is an evergreen franchise no? (Ignoring halo 4)

It might not ever be the resurgence that you all hoped for, but eventually you will have no problems finding games.

Especially people who mostly play with RL friends, that will be enough.

So how is it that Bungie was able to make it work so well out of the gate for an arguably much larger install base for Halo games? I'm guessing 343's resources are incredibly limited compared to the former's.

I think 343 had the resources, just something went wrong and a cascade of problems followed. There is more complexity here than most realize. Even with the games that were not given new graphics, there was still moving from a PowerPC to a X64 architecture resolution bumps, frame rate changes, breaking the games up to be interconnected to the UI and the xbox one live platform.

It was a big endeavor and all it takes is a few big flaws to have to come crashing down.

It's clear that something has got to give with the way these huge games are developed, tested, and released. The bigger games get the more ways there are for them to break. It's by no means representative of the entire industry, but there were a good number of high profile games released this year that were released broken for a large number of people. I don't think that's a trend that publishers can keep up before consumers start to react more strongly.

Well, I believe they meant that we will get multiples updates over coming weeks. Maybe we will see better results in the next one, and maybe the next one wont take long.

At least they appeared with an update today. Nothing more we can do, I will keep trying some matchmaking and relay on some campaing or FH2 in my free time.

I just keep hoping for it to be completely fixed.

The apology is nice, but I don't think anyone is going to be satisfied with anything they have to say other than the game is working. I honestly hope this all gets resolved before Christmas. Halo deserves it, and so do all of the fans.

Sorry guys for giving you this unfinished product... for compensation we are gonna open preorders for HALO 5 NOWWWWWW!

Preorder now and get a new and unique Spartan Ability: Take it up the ass! This ability will allow you and all your gullible and masochistic friends to continually take it up the ass as you buy our products over and over again!

I want to be optimistic and say that the "weeks" is an intentionall over estimation so that they look better when they deliver stuff early.

:(

I would take that over this shit. Just re open the Halo 2 servers for the original Xbox.

The funny thing is that people were saying that this would be the best Bungie game of the year and it was so believable. There was no talk about this being buggy before release.

I'm sure the dedicated Halo fans will still be playing, but in order to try to reclaim the popularity it once had, it needs to have some casual players too. If the game actually worked, I'm sure it would have done a good job with exposing Halo to a younger crowd. That would possibly have given the franchise a longer life span. This was their chance and they fucked it up.

This is unacceptable, nothing I hate more than paying good money for something that doesn't work right. Unfortunately my best friend doesn't have the patience that I do, watching him play erghhh... "attempt" to play a few MP games last night and it was really frustrating and agitating. I had originally planned on purchasing an XB1 sometime this holiday season but now I don't see the point considering what 343 has done with MCC. Apologies and excuses only go so far, facts are facts the game isn't working right and not only do I no longer have any faith, trust or respect in 343 but my patience and tolerance for this sort of shit is at an all time low.

Here's hoping they don't screw up Halo 5, if or when they do Halo will really and truly as a franchise be ruined. Congrats 343, you single-handedly convinced me not to buy an XB1 or any of your products day-1 ever again.

Better luck next time,

-Hawk

343i had every opportunity to become the driving force on the Xbone. They have somehow let this opportunity get so far out of reach, I doubt MCC will have the effect that was originally intended.

Player attrition is a real thing and when your shit will take months to work properly, your fanbase will suffer for it. It's great that they're working on it, but they'll continue to play catch up for a long time.

On the matchmaking front, we have encountered unexpected issues that were not apparent in our internal test environment and that have resulted in a frustrating experience, including long matchmaking times and low session success rates. Within 343 Industries and Xbox, I can assure you that resolving these issues is our #1 priority. We continue to partner with the Xbox platform team to analyze all data to make ongoing server-side adjustments to continually improve the matchmaking experience.
Did they just admit in front of everybody that their game was frustrating due to a technical issue, and that they were working to fix it? Good on them.

Will the pre-order bonuses be exclusive or available to anyone in the launch window?

I think the way they can do it right is do a map pack of new maps for halo 2 anniversary or free month of gold to everyone, give some bonus content in halo 5, and do a free 24 hour trial like they did with sunset overdrive. That way people who got rid of the game or wasn't going to get it anymore due to issues can play and see it's working and get sucked into the world of halo again. This should be followed by a discount of halo digitally.

EDIT: this is after the game is fixed

I'm getting seriously worried that by the time the game is playable the vast majority fo the potential playerbase will already be gone... :(

On the flipside, it's going to be interesting to see if the H5 Beta either gets pushed back a few months, or comes out on time, working much, much better than a fully released, $60 game.

There should be a content update this week, but for them to say they will release a few overt he coming weeks, I don't think this one will do much.

Since the game has multiples problems in both matchmaking and campaing, I would expect multiple patches over time. Being optimistic, I hope that the next patch at least improves matchmaking a bit more, or fix the saving issues with the campaing.

I'd be satisfied with a solution to the problem.

I hope so, but seeing as the last update didn't do a thing for me I can't share your optimism.
