36 minutes of The Order 1886 gameplay (offscreen)

Kinda stupid we have to make do with off screen footage of a really bad player, Sony should release some footage and send it to gamersyde, I mean why would you not show one of your best looking games in the best light?

We've got b-roll, like every other site did, but no way to use it since we didn't play the game since Gamescom ;)

I haven't ever played an pc games at native 4k (I have downsampled quite a few though), so I cannot comment in a direct fashion about current PC releases at such a res. And yes, this game is fantastic looking given its hardware and its framerate. I can only agree with you that it looks great, whether it is the "best loking game" however is wholly up to opinion... at least we can comment on what it is doing technologically.

(BTW, if you are looking for graphically impressive PC games, you may want to take a look at a certain game or basically anything made on a certain engine)

I have seen that star citizen commercial that is supposed to be in engine. But the gameplay that I actually saw it looks ok. Looks good, definitely infinitely more ambitious than Order but does not visually look as good in my opinion. The Order is the first game I have ever seen that one can legitimately claim with a straight face - "We have achieved CG quality". Crysis 3 , Metro look amazing with specs cranked up but still do not look CG and look gamey. There is something about this game that I cant quite put my finger on why it looks like a oil painting. I cant find jaggies at all.

There seem to be plenty of options when it comes to combat. The game is being painted as an on-rails shooter when that doesn't seem to be the case at all.

Just in this very cramped environment, you can take dudes out with a sniper rifle, or run downstairs to take them on up close. You can switch between sniper and close range weaponry at will, throw grenades, the normal options that 3PS games allow. Plus there's the variety in the gameplay mechanics, what with stealth, hacking, etc., I don't know, I'm seeing much more than the most generic third-person shooter ever.

Game also seems to offer you lots of weapon options as well. This player didn't even use the Combo Rifle or the Triple Barreled Explosive Shotgun, the most interesting guns in the demo.

Plus the stealth sections albeit confined in this place will probably open up more later on. And we have hardly seen any gameplay with the Order taking on the werewolves. The only thing we have seen of that so far is the melee combat which is supposedly all gameplay that looked pretty damn cool. I just feel like there's so much of this game we haven't seen yet and from what we have seen it looks great. I don't understand anyone can call the game the most generic third-person shooter ever, the setting alone defeats that notion with it's different types of enemies and the weapons that the Order uses.

That melee clip reminded me of GoW: Ascension. Loved the up close melee stuff in that.

So you guys have HQ video material? I know you just can't post the B-Roll just like that, but couldn't you make something up an use it in accord to the policies/rules/whatever.

I thought the cover and health system was pretty unique as well
The health regen system is a hybrid as well. There are a certain number of hits from which you can recover by simply hiding from sight. But if you cross that threshold, you will go down on all fours. The only way then is to crawl slowly to cover and use backwater, which works like a medkit. You can easily get killed once you have been downed, so you need to crawl to the nearest cover ASAP. There is a QTE to rapidly press X to bring him back up after healing, which also works well, because the situation is tense as it is. It really added that sense of urgency.

Also I'd urge everyone to take a closer look at Gears of War and then look back at our cover system. While we love GOW and used that as a starting point, we did do some subtle but significant changes.

Our cameras are much closer, much more saving private ryan feel. In our game, when you're in cover, it looks and feels like you are in cover. We have a peek mechanic, where you can look over or around cover to get a better view (just stick in said direction), this is to help offset that your visibility is hampered while you are in cover.

Also we have a soft cover mechanic (that kicks in once you have entered cover), similar to The Last of Us in that once in cover you can just move/stick off without needing to hit the enter cover button -- which can allow for smoother transitions when shifting sides or just going in and out quickly.

We went with a hybrid system as we wanted to preserve the ability to quickly scramble into cover via a button press (something you can't do in The Last of Us) but once in it's super easy to shift/change cover.

Well I don't think they improved the jumping, climbing and shooting enough, in an earlier thread I wrote this. (Now that we are scrounging through my post history)

I was disappointed I didn't get something like that. And I sure noticed the new stealth and the vertical map design, I liked that but it wasn't something that blew me away.

You called Uncharted a poor man's Gears of War. Tells me all I need to know about your opinions.

We are trying of course, I wouldn't count on it though.

This is the new posterchild for shallow 'cinematic gaming'. Nothing but walking through barely interactive highly scripted sequences with the occasional room full of chest high walls and the most basic third person shooting I've seen in years thrown in just to remind you that it's supposed to be a video game. Absolutely nothing special outside of the graphics.

Some people likes good scripted games, i am one of them. If you don't like it, you don't have to buy it. Not every game should follow a A4 formula, the gaming area is open for games like Skyrim with open world 100 hours gameplay and The Walking Dead walk/click formula and The Order that is in between.

Yup, that's exactly what I thought about when I saw it. When the complete game is out, I feel like people will realize that it is more varied than what they have shown so far.

Agreed, there seems to be a nice spattering of different gameplay styles. There's the fairly standard TPS, stealth, minigame sections, werewolf fights, and melee combat. We've yet to see much of the latter, and apparently there's a lot of exploration and detective-like elements as well. Whether any of those are good remains to be seen but it all seems promising.

Yup, that's all that remains. The setting lends itself to variety so if Ready at Dawn can't pull it off it will be disappointing.

Also, I thought the stealth insta-kill crap sounded terrible but seeing it in action, seeing how stupidly easy it is, and then how quickly you get to try again, it doesn't bother me as much.

That said, stealth and melee still don't look great to me. I would much prefer a TLoU-like system to QTEs. But then maybe those systems grow as the game goes on. This appears to be an early chapter, after all.

Hmm from the vid I dont think there is any melee QTE right? Its triggering a animation sequence based on pressing a button when near the enemy. Then depending on the environment around you a specific animation plays out. Though I remember seeing a QTE in the initial gameplay reveal.

Best looking game I've ever seen. Nothing I've played on PC or PS4 has impressed me as much as this game. The music sounds fantastic. I'm really excited for the soundtrack. Battles seem pretty intense, and the shooting looks rock solid.

Maybe QTE was the wrong term. I just don't like the timed button press prompt for melee and stealth. Timed in that you die if you don't hit the button at the right time. I prefer a more open free-flowing combat system such as the one we saw in TLoU. But maybe context is key here and it won't seem bad while playing.

I got the Premium edition just for the art book and vial..... getting the score is just the cherry on top. If you haven't heard the dynamic theme music on PS4 the song alone is worth the $2:99. Seriously.

graphics and animation are amazing.

I just wish the QTEs didn't have the cinematic camera cuts each time. even a stealth take down has a cinematic camera cut. I don't like that. maybe zoom or pan the camera just a tad, but don't have cuts during the gameplay.

Fuck that looks gorgeous. Though the person playing is probably the worst player in the world. Constantly stuck on the most simplest of things which I just sad.

How is it "uninspired?" What does that even mean? What is an example of "inspired" gameplay? This game has completely original weapons such as the Thermite Rifle, The Arc Gun, The Air Shotgun blast, etc, yet it is "uninspired"

It also has some of the best art design I've ever seen in a game.

It's called being a PS4 exclusive game. It gets immediately labled with derogatory catch words and phrases. That trickles up to websites and they use the same language. It's been going on for quite sometime, since the PS3 era.

There are larger areas with lots of NPCs and crazy vistas. If people are going nuts over this, their heads will explode come full release.

Wait and see.

The good thing about the botched marketing for this game is now there's this awesome-looking game that was barely on my radar coming out in two months.

I seriously love the look of this game. I think it's got the intangibles that are hard to pinpoint that makes it look better than just the sum of the graphics features it uses. The way everything gels together, the atmospherics rendering, something like that.

the ship is going down.

female order person: "I'm going with you"
male order person: "no, stay here, my brother told me to bring you back safe" or something.

since she's ostensibly in the team, can't she risk her life the same as anyone else? I guess I was sort of hoping that since a younger person is in this supposedly elite order, that she's a full member of the squad, respected and capable.

not that big a deal, I guess, but that exchange did get a bit of a groan out of me. the "protect the female character" stuff gets old.

Damn good looking game. It'll be fun to play once I think for me and then forget about, but I like the stealth sections even if they are broken up a bit too much with story and dialogue etc. but that's what they wanted with the game

Wow, this game looks great. Maybe more games should go with this resolution if it's going to look that good. Shooting seems fine, it seems like the person playing is having a hard time though. Day one on this for sure.

Galahad has promised her brother (probably another member of the order) that he would return her safely and they also have a "thing"

Game looks really good. My only concern is the FoV. Game feels to claustrophobic especially during the stealth parts. I can see that its dynamic as the camera pulls back during more intense gunfights, but its still not enough. Games like the evil within, and resident evil 6 are huge offenders of having a really narrow FoV. Luckily they were fixed with patches and added settings to increase it.

Was it really necessary to stick a big ass knife in the throat of that poor sap just trying to fix the lights.

Good god the protagonists in this game make Joel look like a saint.

Definitely going to be a rental for me but I look forward to playing it. Just can't justify spending $60 day one on a game I'll probably be able to run through in a few days. Especially if it doesn't have any decision making to make any subsequent playthroughs different than the first.

If I remember correctly, Isabeau was Galahad's apprentice (might still be) and i'm unsure if she is a 'full' knight of the Order yet (taking on a title). If you remember, he told her to get Lafayette, who is a junior member, and get off the airship. Might just be an instance of not wanting the rookies thrown into too wild of a situation

Well it is victorian era alternate reality.
If gallantry is allowed at all, it has to be period appropriate there!

looks gorgeous, and I like the art direction too. but I'm still far away to be sure about the gameplay. hopefully story will be good, so I can stand also an average gameplay
