36 minutes of The Order 1886 gameplay (offscreen)

It does not matter if they are not standard, what you said basically amounts to saying graphics are enough to overcome boring gameplay. Not that I am saying the gameplay here looks bad.

I wouldn't call a scene like that "boring" but to each his own. I guess.

I didn't think those bars will annoy me, but after watching this gameplay, I am definitely not in favor of those black bars.

Check what I said in a previous post. QTEs done good are more than welcome. I am not saying that all QTEs are not good in The Order and I am fairly impressed by PSX showing, but some QTEs should be better. I explained that changing the perspective of the camera when triggering a small QTE such as stealth killing an enemy is not so good. imho always.

I prefer TLOU's way that the camera always stays on the player and follows his action while performing a QTE. You press triangle to strangle an enemy and the camera follows smoothly the entire action without ever changing the perspective and with me always able to move the camera around. It feels as if I still have control, as the whole process is seamless. It is a very different thing when I press triangle and suddenly the camera goes to a different perspective where all I can do is watch until it is over.

I hope I make it more clear now.

I'm not even talking about those, I think most people aren't referring to things like that when they bring up QTEs. I'm talking about button prompts during a cutscene.

Well there I have to agree. I hated it in The Evil Within and imo it's a stupid thing to say that it makes the game more "cinematic".

Yeah, they are very annoying in TEW. It's not helped by how close the camera is to the player, not that much different from how it looks here.

Reminds me of Call of Duty's set pieces. Press X to rappel, press X to climb ladder, press (Triangle) to knock out light, press (Triangle) to kill guard. Heh, knocking out the light made me chuckle. It didn't seem to change the lighting in the area at all. Why does that guy need a lantern?...It's clear as day in there.

Love the environments/setting.

It looks like a fucking CGI, really a step above all others including Naughty Dog, how did they do it? I would never though RAD would surpass ND.

Looks beautiful even though I'm only watching it on my phone ATM. I wasn't hyped for this game before but now I'll probably be in day one.

They've been working on their engine for a very, very long time. Their engineers and artists are awesome too.

And people still say that this looks like shit? Yeah, okay.

I've been on the hype train for this game since the initial reveal, and absolutely can't wait to play it. I always thought that it was going to be kind of like the pre-launch period for TLOU where you had people heavily criticizing the QTEs and gameplay.

Of course, we all know what happened after the game actually came out.

So for anyone that's in Vegas and has actually seen this demo in person, is the image quality truly as unbelievable as it looks in this off screen demo? Obviously for a game with graphics this great, video compression most likely helps hide flaws (if there are any)
It looks better than it does in this video.

If there was ever an illustration that the light on the controller should have an option to switch itself off any time it is not needed, it's this video.

Just when I thought the gameplay couldn't get any duller. Looks great though of course. With that footage this game will definitely drop to rent status.

What exactly is "next gen" shooting. It's vague stuff like this that drives people crazy. The whole "there's just something off about it" kind of comments.
Because going from this footage, you take cover and shoot people in the most straight-forward fashion with what appears to be straight-forward weapons. In 2015. As a new Playstation game for the Playstation 4. It's been 8 years since Gears of War was released. If this new flagship PS4 title's core design turns out to be from a (mostly) 8 year old game, then more power to them, at least.

I've always been interested in this title. Hell if only because if the visuals alone, I've been interested. Earlier previews didn't really dissuade me as forced walking segments and cutscenes are just things I'm used to in games. I never thought the little stuff that was shown before could be representative of the whole game anyway. Now I'm starting to get pretty hyped, because the gameplay I've seen looks like fun. The Gears 1 comparisons feel very apt, looks like tight solid shooting mechanics with amazing visuals.

Guy playing sucks but the game looks great. Really looking forward to this. Gunplay looks tight.

Seems to be the norm in videos, lol.

Nearly 20 minutes before you get into the gunplay, but that weapon audio and spray is sweet.

The AI looked dumb as rocks there though.

Wow, these guys are mass murderers!
lol

Anyway, it's good that we finally got a substantial amount of gameplay to analyze. My main gripe are the constant interruptions, I think they go overboard with the need to constantly direct the game, it's too intrusive.
Stealth seems to be a big part of the experience which is nice, I hope the game has some bigger areas to allow for some interesting encounters. Gunplay seems improved compared to previous gameplay footage.
Graphics are fantastic.

Yoinked!

:o :o :o

Feck that got intense really quick. So much detail and variety in the environments too. I can't see them keeping this up for long. This is going to be a short but amazing ride.

are you also surprised that driveclub has us race cars on race tracks in 2014?

ive done that since 1999.

This is 30 fps though isn't it? ND is targeting 60 with UC4 so it makes sense that it wouldn't be quite as nice in screenshots.

I agree though, 1886 looks astoundingly good.

Some of you should read the newer impressions of the game it is actually quite fun and controls very well. The only complaint I had during my playthrough was the AI but I am sure a harder difficulty will fix that. Also not sure it comes through well in video but the sound and feel of everything is great. there is actual recoil when you fire weapons and it really does feel like a mashup of TLOU and Gears of War but in the best way possible.

I really understand why most games are being dumbed down nowadays.

The average player is just ******* stupid, as show in this youtube video.

Man, the music in this game is fantastic and the gunplay seems fun enough. The black bars dont seem to be much of annoyance than TEW, probably. Not really liking the game taking so much of the control away. They really should have shown a demo like at PSX 2014. Much more interested to buy it now.

Oh I really liked the brief cutscenes like when they were creeping up to the cockpit. Keeps you involved in the story and its pace, but brief enough that it doesn't interrupt you too much.

As someone who's always enjoyed the MGS series despite the heavily cinematic/cut-scenes galore approach, this game seems right up my alley.

Obviously that it looks absolutely beautiful doesn't hurt, but the period/setting combined with the sort of gameplay shown in the demo alone is enough to put it firmly on my radar for when I get myself a PS4 in the new year.

Looks a step above everything else out, but I am so fucking over insta-fail QTEs. It's just not interesting from a gameplay perspective at all. It feels archaic and everyone's been saying that so for them to still go with that system seems bizarre to me. The field of view seems a little narrow, don't know if it is too narrow. I won't be preordering this game. Definitely going to take a wait and see approach.

I agree though, 1886 looks astoundingly good.

The environments are also smaller and less geometrically complex (though very beautifully textured, don't get me wrong) than what was shown in UC4 (which is also almost a year away, while The Order will go gold in a month or two.) I think the direct comparisons that ignore all the caveats are kind of pointless.

But I will say without hesitation that the rendering quality of The Order is beyond anything I've seen. There's a real sense of light and air in the empty space that is distinctly... filmic. Their efforts to simulate the physics of real cameras or whatever has definitely paid off, and I think it's a more fruitful approach to creating photorealism than trying to do it with ultra-high res textures.

I love this video because this guy is so bad it makes me feel good about myself

Did JJ Abrams direct this or something, there's been a lens flare on screen for a solid 5 minutes
