36 minutes of The Order 1886 gameplay (offscreen)

Watched the first 10 minutes. Looks amazing.

Really pumped for this title.

Will be interesting to see final code of this game and how it holds up against UC4, GoW4, Halo 5, and GG new IP.

From this early vantage point it looks like RAD can play with the big boys.

I thought it was confirmed that it's branching QTEs (that sometime result in failing) rather then insta-fail QTEs outright?

Unless we're talking about the insta-fail stealth in the demo.

This is 30 fps though isn't it? ND is targeting 60 with UC4 so it makes sense that it wouldn't be quite as nice in screenshots.

I agree though, 1886 looks astoundingly good.

We don't know if ND is still targeting 60, their latest footage ran at 30 and they didn't clarify it since, my bet? they are targeting 30, if not they would shout it over the rooftops.

U4 looks too good for 60 as well, just no way they can make it without sacrificing the visuals.

I really understand why most games are being dumbed down nowadays.

The average player is just ******* stupid, as show in this youtube video.
He did seem to be missing having a mini-map and objective marker!

Gunplay looks good. Not sold on melee as I dislike on screen prompts and different button use. Just give me one attack button - R2 say - and let me use that all the time. Neither have the game deploy stealth kill as appropriate or make me switch to knife first.

Visuals are amazing.

This game was day from the reveal trailer basically, cinematic adventures are my thing, those comparing it to a Quantic Dream game are crazy, i'd say is more similar to something like MGS games in terms of gameplay/codec ratio, nit a problem for me at all, i love getting new story details often in these kind of games.

This is my most anticipated game of Q1 next year for me. Looks awesome.
Aren't MGS games full of long cut scenes? People still love them. I've only played MGS4, and that game had a ton of cutscenes.

Yeah, my opinion completely changed about this game. Pre-ordered and I can't wait now.

Pretty funny how it has February all to itself now. Dying Light got moved up to January, Bloodborne to March, and Witcher 3 to May.

Holy shit, this looks unbelievable. The quality they reached in the shaders is mightly impressive.

But gameplay looks just ok imo. I'll play it anyway.

I guess the good is that they are finally showing some gameplay and it does look much better than the initial stuff. Graphics are nice, though the black bars for "cinematic effect" aka we can't hit 1080p without them are annoying but I'm sure I'll get over that once I start playing the game (I tend not to go back and forth between games while playing through one).

The one thing that does bother me though, and please forgive me if this has been discussed and I missed it, but is it my imagination, or does the AI look pretty dumb?

There were some scenes in the kitchen shootout that came out over the weekend where the enemy seemed to jump out from behind cover and wait to be shot in the face and in this clip (I skipped around not wanting to spoil too much) there were a couple of instances where the player got caught out reloading and the enemy's reaction wasn't to kill the player but instead to go run and hide.

Overall definitely looking much better though. I'd say I'm waiting on reviewers but they can't be trusted so instead I'll wait to see Gaf's reaction before making a final decision on this one.

I like the turning point mechanic for the QTEs.

Music is also incredible and I'm not someone who usually pays much attention to music.

Hearing old timey curses like "son of a whore" in combat is also a nice change of pace from the constant stream of fucks in modern games.

The environments are also smaller and less geometrically complex (though very beautifully textured, don't get me wrong) than what was shown in UC4 (which is also almost a year away, while The Order will go gold in a month or two.) I think the direct comparisons that ignore all the caveats are kind of pointless.

But I will say without hesitation that the rendering quality of The Order is beyond anything I've seen. There's a real sense of light and air in the empty space that is distinctly... filmic. Their efforts to simulate the physics of real cameras or whatever has definitely paid off, and I think it's a more fruitful approach to creating photorealism than trying to do it with ultra-high res textures.

Agreed, that was a really smart goal for them.

I dunno dude, it's running at a rock solid 30fps almost a year away from release in a pre-alpha demo. That's pretty impressive.

One of the pre-order bonuses has a "Desert Khaki" uniform which makes me think if we'll see desert in this game? O_o

What are those items? Micro-transactions?

No its not. You are seeing static shadow maps. That flashlight hits several pieces of geo and they don't cast shadows.

Shadow maps are generally not static by definition, Ryse use something called static shadow map which is a very clever method to reduce draw calls but afaik is the only one (CE 3.6 support them though).

Hngggggggg!
The cloth physic is sogood.gif.

This is better looking than UC4 due to the small scale of the Order environment.
But who cares! Console gaming has gone a long way in graphic improvement.

I might not get it Day 1 but it looks great game to binge during the weekend.
See RAD? You can show some more gameplay, don't be afraid.

I think a half hour of what may end up being a roughly 10-12 hour campaign (citation needed) is enough. If they do show more, I hope its just a small snippet. Maybe a quick showing of a more open area or a quick lycan fight. Hopefully they release this same footage thats not off screen and has someone competent playing.

I don't get the complaints about QTE. Essentially, I am seeing contextual take down (not really QTE), and interactive cut-scenes (which is allegedly better than non-interactive cut-scenes).

Those insta-death are kinda brutal though, may want to tone down the punition and provide a less lethal outcome in case of QTE failure.

Watched the first couple of minutes but think I'll wait until I have the game for the rest. The cut scene dialogue is very well acted, a cut above the average video game. Also hints at an interesting story told well. Looks fantastic and I like what they're doing here as opposed to the crap Ubisoft keeps turding out... Can't wait!

The guy playing this is so frustrating I swear to goodness.

However... . The shooting looks great and I imagine that the vibration for each bullet will kick, especially with the shotgun. Next, that kitchen gunplay was super nice. Hearing the bullets hit all the pans and seeing the bullets fly everywhere was dope. The atmosphere of the fights are super intense.

Let's talk about the AI for a second. They look like they are really good at flanking. In the scene from the ballroom. The AI literally was trying to kill him. They were just shooting and walking to the side. The guy playing was am idiot and it looked like he panicked because so many bullets were flying at him but the AI slipped behind him and he didn't even see. Stupid.

Also, the one thing I didn't like was how removing yourself from cover was so abrupt. It was so unnatural. His back is to the wall and instead of swinging around, it like he just took one step forward and went back into stealth stance. It was just ugly and I was hoping it would be a natural swing off the cover. Also, some of the movement looks stiff. Like turning looks like you might have to break the analog to get all the way around. I'm not sure if this has to do with the framerate.

Now, I do see the critism of it looking like a generic cover shooter, but I feel like the different environments do give some leverage. There's a lot of different ways to move but with that much bullets at once, I can see why cover is needed. It's not a run and gun by any means. However the kitchen was quite small, so it does feel claustrophobic. But when I really think about it, it a good feeling to have in these gun fights. It forces you to feel uncomfortable, and pretty much motivates you to want to get the hell out of there. I think it works very well from a design point of view.

However, overall. It looks great and I can't wait to play it. The graphics are insane and the gameplay looks right to me. QTE is only present as much as it is in other games so I'm cool with that. I don't see an emphasis on them, but much more of a balance. Some things require a button, others do not. I'm definitely in there day one.

Graphics on this and Bloodborne are unbelievable. It's amazing the graphics the PS4 are putting after just a lil over a year already.

Got some Modern warfare Sniper vibes from the scene in that... awesome Riffle...

Really looking forward to this, great blend of human shooting with the interesting aspect of fighting Supernatural, Lycans etc :D

I think the guy playing just didn't get how the cover works. You can snap on with a button but move off of it freely. Seen several impressions that say it's quite smooth and intuitive that way.

I'm definitely buying this game but there are two things that need sorting out. One for this game and one for their next: The camera is a little frenetic and needs stabilising (probably will be done by the time it releases), and the dialogue needs improving in the next game. This isn't something that can be done in this game unless they have a word with ND or go on some quick courses to learn the trade a bit better. I'm sure they'll learn from this and improve it in their next game. Too many unnecessary lines/words and plenty of cliques.

I'm just going to pop off now and do some 'trouser shopping', I'm just not comfortable with the 'internet technology that aint natural'. Yes, 'I'm typing this on my keyboard.'

Looks really good. I'll never have a PS4 so is this one of those games that will never ever ever ever ever be released on Xbox?

It will never be released for Xbox One. Think of Ready at Dawn's relationship to Sony as Remedy's relationship to Microsoft. It's also being published by Sony and the game seems to have some help from SCE Santa Monica.

So it's pretty much a next-gen Gears of War clone set in the late Victorian age ?

I'll buy it just for the moustaches !

Forget who's publishing. Sony owns the ip.

Ah okay.. So it probably was just the guy playing. Good to know it's a natural smooth break off.

Also I'd urge everyone to take a closer look at Gears of War and then look back at our cover system. While we love GOW and used that as a starting point, we did do some subtle but significant changes.

Our cameras are much closer, much more saving private ryan feel. In our game, when you're in cover, it looks and feels like you are in cover. We have a peek mechanic, where you can look over or around cover to get a better view (just stick in said direction), this is to help offset that your visibility is hampered while you are in cover.

Also we have a soft cover mechanic (that kicks in once you have entered cover), similar to The Last of Us in that once in cover you can just move/stick off without needing to hit the enter cover button -- which can allow for smoother transitions when shifting sides or just going in and out quickly.

We went with a hybrid system as we wanted to preserve the ability to quickly scramble into cover via a button press (something you can't do in The Last of Us) but once in it's super easy to shift/change cover.

Frustrating guy behind the controller aside, I saw standard cover shooter gameplay, bad stealth and some annoying "retry from checkpoint if you fail" QTEs... Yet I really want to play this game now!

Ah yeah, I meant in terms of what's shown in trailers and public presentations. Hardly any gameplay was shown before so I hope the next 5 or so minute trailer for The Order presents more gameplay similar to this demo.

It looks like a fucking CGI, really a step above all others including Naughty Dog, how did they do it? I would never though RAD would surpass ND.

They've been working on their engine for a very, very long time. Their engineers and artists are awesome too.

and its a very linear game - not trying to demean its impressive nature, but it helps to not have too much player freedom
