3DS Streetpass Experiences

My New 3DS (regular) broke a couple weeks ago, and I've only now gotten a new New 3DS replacement (see why this was a bad name, Nintendo?).
Lost 2000~ Streetpasses and a lot of progress in the games, it's kinda surreal starting from 0 again.

Did you send your New 3DS in for repair? They should have been able to transfer your data.

Sorry to hear that :'(
I lost my first 1,000-odd passes due to this, sent my console in for repair (it kept turning off randomly) and it was sent back wiped.
I couldn't touch it for months after that but gradually started playing and taking it out with me again.
I miss my Activity Log entries the most as they spanned back to before the 3DS launched, would've been cool to have a record of the entire 3DS' history :(

My activity log is so messed from all the shaking for play coins. lol

So I'm just about to finish the last of the standard islands on Fishing and I'm realising that I don't quite understand the games fundamental mechanic.

Fishing with a lone bait is enough to catch 1-star fish, combining 2-3 for a Large bait can catch 2-star fish and combing 4+ baits for a Very Large bait can catch 3-star fish... right?

Using a Large or Very Large bait on a 1-star fish can result in A+ catches as can Very Large baits with 2-star fish, whereas 3-star A+ catches are results of rod skills and luck... right?

So why am I fishing up D rank 1-star fish when using Very Large baits?
How am I combining red/orange/green baits for a fish that only likes red/orange/green bait but then fishing up a boot?

I feel like I'm missing something here...

I'm coming close to making the conclusion that mixing bait is worthless. I've had no trouble catching anything I need with a single bait, which is actually better at keeping the range of possible bites narrow, and the rank of things I pull up seem completely random.

You need a big catch skill maxed at Lv.3 on your rod. I just chuck out single baits all day and reel a couple A+ fish everytime.

I'll try nothing but single baits for the next few days and see how I get on.
Mixing 4 baits and catching a tin can is pretty disheartening haha.
Bait mixing and Rod combining are both terrible, as is the fact the skills you can upgrade on your rod aren't fully explained.
I really want to like this game but there's a lack of care throughout which really hampers my enjoyment.
Great music though.

I always mixed bait because I thought it meant more large fish plus I usually have a load of bait that is otherwise useless.

Never more than 2 pieces mixed though.

I stopped playing zombies a while ago, but fishing is still damn good.

They put the completion medal on the game icon even though there is a bunch to do. Unfortunately what remains will involve me spending a bunch of play coins to access the gold and silver islands.

Yeah this just popped up for me, despite only have 56% of the fish haha.
Ahh well, makes for a pretty looking sweep:

Time to cross my fingers and hope for some foreign passes...

so what's the best rod + skill combination?

hmm and is there a list of combinations?
I don't have any luck getting new 3-star rods :/

You don't get the best rod until you beat all 9 islands.

Best place I found to grind for 2/3 star rods is the first level on the 9th island. Lots of 2 and 3 star fish to be caught.

I still have to 100% Mii Force, VIP, Ultimate Angler and Battleground Z.

All the other games I'm pretty much at 100% with 22/22 tickets and the Gold Watering Can.

I just can't stand Mii Force though... So, its hard to collect all the target scores and gems.

I have around 90 medals in BGZ and working on filling all the colors for the weapons. I have around 10 completed.

Ultimate Angler... Slow process at collecting all A+ fish... I have around 60 or so.

VIP i need 8 more months to complete.

The battle is far from over.

Unrelated note; I'm missing three hats but they never cycle through any more. I only get the four bubble choices. Weird.

I want a platformer next!
I've wanted one since I started up Puzzle Swap for the first time and saw my little Mii bobbing along on a 2D plane.
Zombies finally gives us direct control of our Mii so we're getting close :)
Something simple like 10 Second Run might work, where you have limited time to complete a stage and each Mii you pass gives you additional time to finish.
OR something like the Gourmand races from Kirby Superstar where you race other Mii's through levels!

I gave up on getting all weapon colours on Zombies, at least with getting all flower colours there's a reward, getting nothing in Zombies just kills my motivation..

Crazy you're going for all A+ fishes, I've joked about that but will seriously consider it once I get a decent rod.

I very, very, very, very begrudgingly brought the VIP pack too. Still not happy about it (it IS a complete rip-off as suspected) but at least it'll give me something to do once the games are wrapped up.

Surprised so many dislike Force! I've never been into shooters so appreciated having something 'new' to play.
Too many levels boil down to simply having the right weapon (just like Zombies) rather than needing any real skill but I still had a lot of fun with it.

Some of these games you just have to decide how much tedium are you able to stand.

For Mii Force once I beat the game I was done.

For the Zombie game I think once I beat the game I'll be done. I might go back later on and grind out medals and see about finding rare zombies but that is a play coin sink to the max.

For the fishing game, clearing all islands and catching all fish is enough for me. It's fun but the play coin cost is going to be real.

I'd love to get all requests done in Flower Town but I'm not sure I'll ever do that. I'd basically have to get a seed, change the color of my Mii shirt on another 3DS, and then plant the seed in that color for some of them. I already have like 25 plaza tickets I can't spend since I keep getting shit hats and nothing new that I want.

The other games I'm about done. I need to conquer the world twice in that and make my castle rank 20 or whatever but that's about it. Think I have like 5 or 6 countries to go.

Streetpass games are really fun, but the limit of 10 play coins per day and the 8 hour limit of streetpasses and my propensity to be terrible at video games means that 100% on every game isn't ever realistic.

Special Mii delivery is finicky sometimes. Last year I had my 3DS on 24/7 and connected to the Internet at all times except during my commute (only 25 minutes each way) and was diligently clearing queues as soon as the Special Miis came down. And I still missed one.

yea I beat the Fishing Game
got the
UFO Rod
but I can't seem to get more version/right skills to max it out

If I have a regular DS game in my 3DS and I close it for sleep mode, will I still get Streetpasses? Or do I need to exit the game before closing the lid?

Need to exit the game. This is also true for DSiWare titles.

This is also an issue with the GBA Ambassador games, and they don't even suspend when you close the unit.

Good to know, thanks. Just to be safe I did this before going to Home Depot just now, 9 new passes! Only 3 new puzzle pieces, weak

Nope. Just 5 new Spotpass Goldpants Miis for this years 2015 E3.

There was 5 in total?? I Forgot to check my 3DS for Day 1 (I guess Day 0 had someone too?), but got all of the other days. Got 1 so far for a street pass but haven't checked on the other days since I don't like play the games with only a couple people.

There was four through Spotpass. My bad. Although, apparently I got a fifth Red Shirt Gold pants Mii at Best Buy though...

Day 1 - Shigeru Miyamoto (Mario)
Day 2 - Hiromasa Shikata (Zelda)
Day 3 - Emi Watanabe (Yoshi)
Day Finale - Tetsuya Takahashi (Xenoblade)

Spotpass @ Best Buy - Aya Kyogoku (Animal Crossing)

Brother and I haven't been near a Best Buy and we got her via normal Spotpass.

oh snap :/ I guess I missed out on Aya Kyogoku :/
is she totally out of Best Buy now or is there still a chance?

I'm on my second playthrough of monster manor.

Don't know how many puzzle boxes I have left, but I need a good 3 or 4 weapons left. Damn those last 2 tickets.

Make sure you are switching up the size of rooms you make every so often to get different chest types; usually making rooms as large as possible on every other floor or so should be enough to get every weapon type, but if you missed a few lower rated weapons early on you might have to make a few small ones. Also, if given the chance to team up, decline in order to have a shot at getting the exact weapon the person is carrying.

What type of skills do you guy currently have on your fishing rods?

I've seen Gauge, Big-Catch, Time, and Strike skills. They're usually coupled with either a random location (Deep-Sea, Coastal, Lake/Pond, Riverside) or a number variable (1-4 Anglers, 2 Anglers, 6+ Anglers, 8+ Anglers, 11 Anglers).

The best skills I have so far is a Lv.3 +8 Angler Big-Catch Skill and a Lv.2 +6 Angler Big-Catch Skill.

Someone on the GF Boards said there are Power Boost skills? I have yet to stumble across a single one of those and I've caught many fish. I'm thinking maybe Island location plays a factor. 90% of my fishing is on the very First and the Final Premium island.

Any one have any experience with rod and skill grinding?

You sound much, much better off than I; the best I have is a lv1 8+ Anglers Big Catch Boost. Reading around, the 6+ Angler version is considered the best possible skill to have. I just have no idea what I can do to get more skills to drop.

Just imagine how much fun streetpassing would be if the 3ds was as popular as the Ds.

I used to see loads of people brain training on the train.
