3DS Streetpass Experiences

Met 6 people today at school, one sent me something in Ridge Racer and one had something to do with Nintendogs. I'm not even sure what either of them did, but Streetpass is pretty fucking cool.

3DS will barely make it through a work day with wireless on and some play time on my commute and lunch break. Sucks some serious battery. Thinking about only turning it on when I'm moving around. Too bad theres no outlet around my desk to use.
Strange, took it with me on a business trip, had it in sleep mode the whole time, played Pilotwings on the flights, showed the camera to friends in the evening and it still had 2 bars left when I put it in the cradle.

I only get about a day in sleep mode with wireless on as well. And I'm literally talking a day; 24 hours. I don't get how you guys are getting more with sleep mode. What exactly are your settings?

There are different settings for sleep mode? I just close the lid, that's it.

If you meet someone a 2nd time or more, you're given the option to send a personalized greeting the next time.

Hmm, well, that's marginally better than I had thought. I assume it still has the same ridiculous character limit as a standard greeting.

Well not really haha. I'm guessing since you're posting in the StreetPass thread, that you have both wireless on and StreetPass activated while in sleep mode? And again, what constitutes a day for you? Is it strictly 24 hours? Or is it just from 8AM-8PM, etc.?

Edit: I'm just trying to get a better idea because if you're really at 2 bars of battery after a full 24 hours of some use+sleep mode, then that means there's something wrong on my end, which means I need to do something about it lol.

Did a lot of walking around NYC today and yesterday, and the only hits I got were at the Nintendo World Store, plus one from (I think) the demo unit at Best Buy.

I'm sure hits will become a tad more common as more and more people buy the system, but that doesn't shake my impression that it's a feature designed primarily for the Japanese market, and one which ultimately amounts to a pretty hollow gimmick without any means of interacting with people whom you meet via StreetPass.

When Mario Kart comes out, people should host 3DS parties or something.

Anyway, I got a streetpass... Something... In Street Fighter. But nothing on Mii Plaza. Then I got a notification telling me to turn off street pass or something.

Can someone explain?

similar. took it off the charger in the morning, spent all day in my pocket, walked around town some (4 streetpass hits yay!), then played about 90 minutes of streetpass quest, SFIV and Ridge Racer, and the light still hadn't gone red by the time I put it back on the charger at night

haha, met an awesome mii last night - women dressed in full pink with a kirby hat, her hello sign was "oh my days" (common slang here). Made me laugh on the way home ~

For those saying that it "doesn't work", I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo implemented some way of making it not work if it detects you're trying to force or game the system. For example, if the consoles are not getting steps from the pedometer and really near for a long time or something like that.

I doubt it, that'd be stupid.

Second to chime in on this, that would be stupid. Shops are already setting up "promo mii's" that are designed by staff and left to be spotpassed to shoppers. John Lewis (major store in central london, and elsewhere as a chain) already has a floor with 3DS's setup in this way.

Just got a hit from my office, can't be anyone who works here cause no one has a 3DS. Some chick called Willow with glasses. FML. Sucks you can only get 10 play coins a day, it's a 10 minute walk to get them basically. :/

Time to troll the malls when it's busy on the weekends... really hope I get at least one legit hit that isn't from a game store demo station

The first day I seemed to get only a couple of hours before I put it in the dock. Today however I have played on and off all day and left it in streetpass mode the rest of the day and I still have 2 bars of battery left.

No, they won't have done that, but it's not a binary, simple system which you can just predict either. People should just relax and let the good stuff happen.

Considering it's about a week old over here, I think it's pretty amazing how many people have hits.

I see someone playing the old DS everytime I am on a train or subway. So I think it just takes some time until we don't know where to go with all these stupid street passes.

How did you play streetpass quest for 90 minutes? Did you collect like 300 coins? ^^

Quick question: what puzzle did you start with? Most people around here (Spain) started with Metroid Other M, but some have the Super Mario Galaxy puzzle and have started spreading pieces so I was wondering if it's some kind of regional stuff.

I only had the Super Mario one on my japanese unit, my PAL 3DS started with Metroid Other M and one of my coworker has the Pikmin one. With StreetPass I only got Mario pieces so I'm currently trying to complete 3 puzzles at the same time! Most advanced is Mario with 13/15...

You know, I had one absolutely terrible day when I left Monkey Ball suspended. Took it off the dock in the morning, played less than an hour, and it was blinking by 4 p.m. But without Monkey Ball suspended it's been much better.

I wonder if some games eat processor while suspended.

Probably, but it wouldn't make sense at all.

Edit: we've been asking around a spanish forum and it looks like StreetPass puzzle takes into account your region for the starting puzzle so it "forces" you to travel. All people from Madrid are getting M:OM, Mario & Bowser in Barcelona, Zelda in Asturias and so on.

Got mine on Monday, played a bit in the evening and had to load it over night. Yesterday evening I put the plug in again (started to blink in red after 10minutes of nightly Ghost Recon playing). Between this time it was never turned off. I just closed it all the time. There was about 2 hours of gaming in between though. Bit face riders, bit Ghost Recon. Wifi, Spotpass and Streetpass are all set to on and blinking all the time.

(I have it on brightness 1-3 most of the time though)

As for puzzles: Got the Pikmin one. (Germany but uk 3DS)

edit: I did not turn if of yesterday too. It's still running. And while closed I was in the home menu and within Ghost Recon about 50:50

Maybe. But no one has really answered my questions lol. It seems like most people are talking about a work day (so about 8-12 hours), not a literal day (24 hours) when describing their battery life in sleep mode with wireless on. So I guess my battery is fine. Anyways, hopefully today is a more successful StreetPass day.

EDIT: On second thought, maybe something is wrong with my battery because I remember checking after 12 hours and having 3 bars of life left. I made a post about it in the US Launch Thread. But then within the next 12 hours, it had fully discharged. I'll see what happens today.

Strange that no one else has said it yet, but I started with the Zelda puzzle. Only 2 pieces though because I am addicted to find mii!

When you mean travel, you mean get puzzle parts from other Mii's, rather than just buy them with coins? Might be the case. I've just been streetpassing and I've got 6 pieces over 4 puzzles.

On that note, just cross oxford circus for a coffee and got tagged twice running across the road, so it looks like lunch time is a good time to get some Mii's ~

Took my 3DS to the gym yesterday, nada. Bummer, I was hoping that girl on the treadmill next to me with the huge cans had one.

Finally got one hit, named AsianBro.

I was on the subway today and some dude had a 3ds beanie on, and I didn't get a streetpass hit from him. C'MON!

I started with Legend of Zelda.

Do you unlock hats etc for your Mii's from playing this?

I got a kitty ears hat from Find Mii (and I wear it proudly)

I know it has been ask hundreds of time in this thread, but is there a clear anwser of how long does streetpass take to transfer info between 2 3DS? and how wide is the range of the signal?

can you really just walk pass someone on the street to get "passed" like they show on the commercial?

I've heard multiple reports of 30 feet, but I don't know if that's true or how long it takes.

From a properly-engineered product perspective, no, you wouldn't expect it to happen. But that doesn't mean it wouldn't happen. Particularly at launch :)

At my college, over the past two days, I have run in to 3 people. One of them I fought with trophies in SSFIV, which was pretty neat.

I think as more time passes the more people at my school and town get the 3DS. My school has three game majors, so a lot of gamers. I think it is only a matter of time until it grows.

This. I also want to know.

Haha.

Just discovered how to get more than 10 game coins in a day....change the date on your console's settings.

Well it is pretty instant. I know I did it with kids that I didn't even notice seeing and I was just walking.

The data is pretty small it is sending and the signal is constantly being sent, so yes. It is basically instant and the distance is around 30ft or more from my experiences.

Too much effort. [/lazy]

They really need to up the limit. I easily walk enough to receive around 20 - 30 coins a day. If that's an issue with their created economy, they should simply up the cost of items in Mii Streetpass and other games.

Uk ds on holiday in Spain. Got two locals so far, at bus stations. Fnac Seville had a demo unit but got no hit off it so prob wireless off. 60 thousand steps so far. Everyone so far has bowser puzzle and I have kirby I think.

Second day I get a tag from the same person in the cafeteria at work. I don't have a clue about who could he be, as the Mii is generic as hell. He probably knows who I am though, mine is very recognisable.

I've had StreetPass enabled on my 3DS since day 1 (24/03). I take it everywhere I go in Luxembourg and have yet to "meet" anyone with a StreetPass enabled 3DS.

Damn you tiny country ... damn you!!

Isn't Luxembourg one of the best places to live? I always image everyone living there as very wealthy people... I'm jealous.

=(
