3DS Streetpass Experiences

tagged a mii in my physics class today.

I've gotten at least one tag everyday so far and they were all different people.

So question for all you streetpassers since Ami isn't giving me a straight answer in the NA Launch thread...

Do you need to streetpass to get different puzzle panels in Puzzle Swap? What is it like when you get a new one, how many do you have, etc.?

Everyone starts with a different puzzle, so to start a new one, you have to pass someone with a new puzzle.

You can trade coins for puzzle pieces too.
I've bought every piece of my starting puzzle and it's telling me I can't buy anymore, and not saying anything helpful like "you need to streetpass with others to earn more panels!"

Well that's the problem, not everyone. Both of my friends with 3DSs have the exact same starting puzzle as me.

I took it with me while I was running errands and have had no luck. I wonder if I'd get a hit if I went to the mall.

:p

Got 2 hits.

One from a chef at a sushi joint in Tulsa. The other from some dude at a book store.

This gives me renewed hope since I'll be back in Tulsa next week. Which Sushi joint was it?

I think I'm going to run to a few Gamestops (2 in malls) to check out their used PS2 and GCN games for their B2G2 that starts tomorrow. Hopefully I will get a few hits.

Managed to get 3 tags from my polisci tutorial and none from the actual class, which was not what I was expecting.

Find Mii was not what I expecting, but I did manage to get a Mario hat. I doubt I'll get much further without a steady stream of tags though because I'm hoarding coins for retail games.

u can use coints for all the street pass stuff. It seems like it will take alot of coins to beat the dungon however as your miis get stronger each time you get pinged by them.

I bought a few characters and using 8 coins (so 4 bought miis ) i couldn't get past the third sghost he is still about 2/3rds alive

Ugh, I have two coworkers with 3DS's and we've had a ton of trouble Streetpassing. The first day we could sync, but it took about 15 seconds at close range to kick in. We haven't been able to Streetpass on any of the days since--the green "StreetPass" bar displays when you're on the home screen, but it never wants to actually connect.

We all have the update. Anybody else run into this?

Finally got one. On Campus at UC Irvine today, someone named Conor.

I got my first Mii, someone named Amy, at UCI too. Got it either at the physical sciences area or on the Main Campus shuttle.

Any guesses as to why I got a StreetPass notification from Lego Star Wars that only contained a button to deactivate StreetPass for that game?
Are you sure that wasn't for SpotPass push Notifications? Getting that notification means you'll get messages from LucasArts about the game. Pressing the deactivate button disables it.

Got my first four hits today. Two while eating lunch, another two when some kids came into work to pick up Pilotwings. Never have I been so excited to see a little green light blinking.

No, it's got a green tab, unlike SpotPass notifications which are blue, and the text on the button reads "Deactivate StreetPass for this title."

Maybe LSW:CW lets you StreetPass custom Lego characters?

After taking my 3ds on campus for 2 days and not getting a single hit; I got my first hit walking my dog around the neighborhood which is weird since I didn't really pass anyone. It was a female mii wearing a Mario hat named alithestew, which is kinda funny.

Wow, and all this fuss for just a couple of minigames. Things are going to get insane when viral stuff like Animal Crossing kicks in.

Yo, protip:

While listening to music with the lid closed it does not technically count as Sleep Mode.

This state stays the same even when you unplug your headphones and the music pauses.

To get it to sleep properly you'll have to reopen the lid and manually pause the music or exit to the home menu.

... why would that matter, though? Street Pass doesn't -only- work in Sleep Mode. It will work when applications are running as well, I thought. All other WiFi options work during normal use.

I was under the impression that it only worked while in Sleep Mode.

I mean, I got eight hits on Tuesday but none on Thursday, and my schedule is exactly the same.

I don't buy it.

It seems like you can only street pass once a day or after enough steps have been taken. My gf and I had this trouble.

So in the data management, that number that counts the number of data transfers, as far as I can tell it's not a TOTAL count, it's basically a "number unchecked" count. I had 1 after 2 tags and was all confused, only to boot the mii plaza up and have another guy show up. Then I checked again and it said 0.

So that makes sense now. What DOESN'T make sense is that a guy showed up out of nowhere like that. I got him earlier in the day at some point, likely around the same time as another guy I got (they were both from washington, which I flew out of at noon). Why would he show up in my system later, why would he not flash my light or put an orb on the system, AND why are the two streetpass notifications I had in the notification panel now GONE?

it is a mystery

For anyone in Paramus NJ or surrounding area's , the bergen town center gamestop has a used 3DS instock. I set it up for my manager buddy with a mii called gamestop who's street pass saying is trade in games. I know its annoying but if your in the area and want to stop in to get the pass go for it .

I've had no luck even commuting into London almost every day then 'Bam' two hits in one day, one at London Bridge on the train to Uni some girl so I did the puzzle quest and RPG thingy.
Then later in Kingston another hit but was busy so didn't manage to play him (last night I did check StreetPlaza but didn't play), I opened the 3DS this morning to finally get his puzzle piece and use him for the game only to find I can't! Is this normal?

I'm scanning the manual right now... and it says that StreetPass exchanges can happen either while playing a game -or- while in Sleep Mode.

However, it ALSO states:
Page 5 said:
• StreetPass does not work if you are connected to the Internet, or are using local communication, depending on the
software you are using (see page 26).
Now, I understand the bit about not working if using local communication, but I'm puzzled by the Internet reference. I'm assuming it means it may not work if you're using a dedicated internet program or in the midst of an online game, as it can't "poll" for local data and net data... but the 3DS is "always" internet connected, if the friend list updates show us anything.

My assumption is that StreetPass is only "disabled" when you are doing things like a System Update, downloading a piece of software (from the eShop), or currently engaged in an online game.

I'm so confused. Why no hits after tons of hits? Nothing makes sense anymore.

Puzzle 01/01

Layton: Heres my answer!

It deffinitly does not work while awake. And ingame. Because when its closed the wireless light blinks rapidly in sucession. But for example while I am playing Pilotwings it starts to blink only every few seconds. Which means its just using the internet while awhake.

Closing it while pilotwings is on makes it blink faster again which obviously means it goes back into sleep mode.

Me liking led lights explains this mystery!

Its worked while i played lego star wars and my gf played sims 3 .

I think StreetPass will be fun later this year in some geeks reunions like Video Games Live concerts. This is likely a way to get hundreds of Miis in a single room of ~4000 peoples.

The problem with your theory is that Pilotwings doesn't make use of the Internet and, well, it directly contradicts the information given. I mean, so far we have no reason to assume Nintendo is lying then it says that Streetpass works in Sleep Mode -and- in game.

Yea it seems to vary from title. Nintendogs supports it in game. When you press home it even says streetpass on the top bar.

This is pretty confusing.

Solved 01/02

We need to see how it affects different titles. Not that I care I always sleep at home when passing through streets.

Edit: daviddayton: But the evidence is within that magical yellow light itself. It blinks much slower when you put pilotwings in sleep mode then when you put the home menu in sleep mode.

Again very confusing. I think Nintendo messed with the evidence.

I was so disappointed today - had my 3DS on sleep with street pass activated while at the Laker game - but sadly nobody at Staples center had one haha. Damn Laker fans need to be more nerdy like me!

Perhaps you should start combing the aisles before the game starts

Took my dog for a walk using the pedometer, only tagged one person. Decided to spend some play coins for Find Mii. Now in the third room and I have two Mii hats (Mario & Cat)

Currently wearing the Cat hat

The manual says, however, that only one icon is loaded at a time, regardless of how many may be active. Are you within WiFi range when getting a StreetPass logo?

The light blinks differently to show an active game in sleep mode versus home menu in sleep mode? I think you're reading too much into light pulse times...

^ :lol

Yes I am within wifi range when getting a streetpass bar on suspended nintendogs.

The wifi blinking is the key to this mystery. It rapidly blinks while Nintendogs is in sleep mode therefore my theory is undeniably the truth. (Most likely)

...wow I've been playing to many Wright and Layton games lately. And I just started playing Layton D: need to go to bed lol.
