3DS Update Now Available: Adds Miiverse, L+R to activate camera, etc

Is anyone having issues with the 3DS eShop? Updated both my 3DS XL and Japanese 3DS and linked them, but now the eShop just hangs while loading
Yeah, after multiple errors and retries, I eventually was able to access the eshop. Note for everyone, 3ds purchases and wii u purchased are both listed in the eshop activity now.

Huh, I just noticed there's no Fire Emblem Awakening community.
No Kid Icarus Uprising or Fire Emblem Awakening.

What is going on.

Great that they finally added this to the 3DS. Is it only me, or is it really slow though? Also, seems you need to follow all your friends on the Wii U if you want their updates on the 3DS, since they didnt unifie the friends lists. Hope thats next step though.

Someone give me a quick rundown:

NNID = permanent? Cannot change name?

Region = What are pros/cons of regions. I have bought things on Netherlands region. What happens to stuff I already bought if I change? What are the benefits of Canada? I use eShop cards.

NNID is permanent. Mii nicknames can be changed.

I don't know about things already bought on other regions, but the message said that if the currency you have on your wallet doesn't match the country of your NNID, then the mony on your wallet will be gone. You could spend that money first and then make a NNID just to be safe.

I'll wait for load to die down then. Thanks.

Was a bit worried for a second

Yeah there's only around 2 dozen communities. New ones will be added all the time and they may go through retroactively and do them

Still region locked?

Yes

A+

Awesome update, easily one of the best ones since I owned the 3DS. Too bad that the OS captures is limited by the company and thus Pokemon X/Y regrettably doesn't have the feature :(

Does this mean our previous purchases are now linked to our nintendo network id?

Yes, but you will only see them on the 3DS. Everything you purchase from now on, will also be shown on other devices. At least thats what the information said when i first logged into the eShop after linking my NNID.

Whoah. DON'T go into the System Transfer settings though! I was previously out of system transfers, but since they removed the limit, I opened the settings to see if it would actually let me do a transfer.

Without asking me, it just started the transfer process, by first deleting all the installed downloadable software, then confirming that DSiWare would be moved to the SD card. I didn't want it to do that so I turned off my 3DS and when I turned it back on, that's when I saw that all my stuff had been deleted.

I can't log onto the eShop right now to redownload anything (I get an error code) and I can't even use the StreetPass Mii Plaza since the update file it needed had been deleted. I get an error when I try to redownload that, too.

This sounds bad - but turning off the system during a transfer process doesnt sound like the best idea. You will have to contact Nintendo i guess.

Really? It would be nice for them to retroactively link all e-shop purchases to accounts.

Pretty please Nintendo??

I always hate it when when usernames need to be longer than 5 characters, is there a reason for that?

It seems to happen every now and then. It is annoying though, my Nintendo ID feels wrong, because it's not how I identify myself online, so I don't like it and there is very little chance of me actually remembering it... it's really no better than those old Nintendo ID numbers for me. The whole point of my username is that it's short and nobody else has ever taken it.

More on topic: Yay, Miiverse.

You know what could be a great different use of Miiverse?
Using Japanese communities for demanding Western releases of specific titles. Already did that in the Yokai Watch Community. We should do it :D

So few Japanese communities so far, only 17 :lol

I raided the Bravely Default community thread, I want the game even more!! D:

How do you take screen caps?

Not easy, if the game has a community and the developer allows screenshots...

1. Find an event you want.
2. Click the home menu
3. Load up Miiverse and post photo online
4. Check the source code (on PC or Mac is the easiest) and find "IMG"
5. "Save as"

Voila!!

Yeah, but I didn't think it had done anything yet. It gave me no indication it had deleted anything, and all it said was "DSiWare will now be moved to the SD Card." and had an OK button that would start the process. I thought it hadn't done anything yet, and I thought I should turn off the system before I actually did any System Transfer stuff, since I didn't actually want to do a transfer.

I've had a transfer fail partway through before, and after like 20 minutes of copying data to another system it just said it would be cancelled and it restarted the system like nothing happened. I don't know why they changed it with this update.

I wonder if that means ambassador 3ds' can load their games on a new 3ds xl with a system transfer. I hope it means that.

I was getting error 007-2100 which restarting seems to have fixed, however now it just does the spinning loading circle forever (10+ min so far).

Press home and it's capped. Open Miiverse to use them.

Very nice, thanks!

So my 3DS uses a Mii based on me (oh ho ho) while my NNID uses a Mii based on the lass I'm currently sporting as an avatar. Apparently I have to choose one or the other and it will overwrite the one I didn't choose.

So now I'm going to have to open MiiMaker on both systems and make a dupe of each just so I don't lose one.

Well at least Streetpass Plaza can let me choose whatever Mii I like so that won't be affected.

How do you access communities from other regions?

If you scroll the Miiverse Discussions page to the bottom, there's a filter

Europe and Oceania
Japan
Americas

You select one of them and that's it.

However, eShop still doesn't obtain to open :(

I see that Miiverse doesn't support friends as stated in the update menu, I wonder why not? Kind of an oversight if you ask me.

By the way, on the 3DS and Wii U Miiverse apps, you can see if a user is an owner of a 3DS or Wii U or both. There's little icons at the top right of your profile.
