Do you think most gamestops will have this tomorrow? I'll like to just walk in and grab on and be on my way, and not be asked "well did ya preorder?!"
I'm sure you'll be fine at any retailer, not just Gamestop.

(do you have credit there or something because they're not the best deal in town. )

They're gonna say "AW MAN you should have pre-ordered, bro. Your lucky today we have one left in whichever color you want!" right as he walks to the back where they have a ton of them.

these charging cradle prices are just ridiculous! (america vs. germany)

To be fair the hardware pretty much is equal to or slightly better than the Game cube, though with 3D they have to render everything twice so that's why we don't get stuff as good as Game cube games, it's a shame really.

I kinda want someone to release 3DS games with no 3D feature and then do really nice graphics/effects.

The kind of games already released on 3DS (Revelations and stuff like Pullblox) already feels like you have a portable GC in your hand. I don't think you can't do anything on 3DS that was done on GC.

I don't consider Nintendo to be a generation behind in portables they have done a full generational leap with every portable since the Gameboy Color. Check it out:

Gameboy Color - About on par with NES visuals
Gameboy Advance - About on par with SNES visuals
DS - About on par with N64 visuals
3DS - About on par with Gamecube visuals

On the console side they skipped a leap with the Wii. The most interesting thing is that the power differential between Nintendo's portables and their consoles is one generation closer then it used to be. When the N64 was out, GBC was two generations behind (NES), when the Gamecube was out, GBA was again two generations behind (SNES), but since the Wii didn't step up in terms of visuals the DS and 3DS are only roughly one generation behind the Wii and Wii U respectively (if you consider the Wii U to be in the same league as the 360/PS3).

Your list ignores the fact that Sony has been consistently a generation ahead of Nintendo's handheld hardware.

$20 Gaming Coupon with purchase of a Nintendo 3DS XL gaming console

Can't use the coupon until August 26th.

easily the best of the bunch! however
CAG says the coupon expires 10/13, and Zero Escape comes out 10/23. there's no listing for said game on kmart.com, and id have to have this thing expire with nothing else i want out in time - do they usually add titles closer to their release date online, or am i gonna have to buy another game & exchange it a week or so later, assuming they'd even carry this title?

still wondering!

Wait, I am confused. The XL comes with a charger in the states, right?
Also, are there any hardware issues with the XL like there was with the original 3DS? Scratches, not locking in place when its opened, etc?

Yes it comes with a charger but no cradle. Scratching is fixed outside of a few people who claim to have the issue. Most reviews state otherwise, and that it no longer has the issue.

Thanks guys! Ugh, I am confused now! I have a 3DS that my daughter uses A LOT but I want to get the 3DS XL. Not sure if I should trade the OG one in for the XL or just buy an XL out right =/ plus, I know there is going to be a Zelda special edition eventually... ugh decisions decisions.

Whoa, they're actually doing midnight launches in the states? Crazy, man!

Stores open at 11 on Sunday but I'll be first in line. Well, maybe second. I think I'm opting for Mega Man Blue. Kinda sucks to have two blue 3DS systems, but eh. I don't like Tomato Red too much.

Just got my text from GS and gonna go there tomorrow at 11AM. I haven't been this excited about a system in ages...and I already own the OG 3DS.

Decided to pick up Zelda OOT 3D too, as I have heard it looks really nice on the XL.

I was hyped as fuck for the 3DS, which pretty quickly deflated when I realized that Street Fighter and Ridge Racer were just "okay", and not going to sustain me into the next (first) major release. I was playing a lot of DS at the time (Etrian Odyssey 3), which didn't play well on the 3DS at all, so I switched back to my DSi pretty quickly.

This is the real launch, as far as I'm concerned. I mean, the first game they announced for the thing (not counting Steel Diver) is finally out, plus a bunch of others besides. Next time, I'm definitely holding out for the revision.

So what games besides Mario are you guys thinking about getting? I might get Tales of the Abyss and Kid Icarus.

Ha! I've already picked up 9 games! Nine! Before I've even bought the system. I am a crazy person.

Tales of the abyss
Mario 3d land
Tetris axis
Zelda
Star fox 64
Resident evil R
Devil surviver overlocked
That final fantasy rhythm game I can't spell
Mario kart 7

And I'm picking up Mario bros 2 tomorrow as well

How much do a DSi and DS lite get at Gamestop? I have both and some emotional attachment to them but whatever I need to move on and I'd like a XL. I never really needed 3 DSs and even if I sell my 3DS and DSi, I'll still have 2, which I don't really need.

I didn't like ToA much. Annoying characters, boring battle system, very boring game in general to me. I stopped playing 7 hours in and I can't be bothered to go forward. Probably my worst 3DS purchase

Others seem to love it though so YMMV I guess

My cousin's picking up my 3DS XL preorder tomorrow from the store but I won't have it in my hands until September... I've never wanted August to end so fast.

Nope.

I'll give you this one.

Nope.

Hell no.

Wait, you're saying he is wrong because they're not on par but superior, right? Right? Because the GBC is not "about on par" with the NES, it's better. Same with the GBA and SNES, except for the sound. With the DS & N64, just look at MK64 and MKDS: sprites and variable fps vs polygons and 60fps. As for the 3DS and GCN, the GameCube can move more polygons but that's it, the 3DS can do anything else it does and better.

I'm not doubting you but I'd like to see some examples of what 3DS can do better than GCN. I haven't really noticed it yet myself.

The problem is that they aren't really comparable in terms of power. The 3DS has better shaders, but can't push nearly as many polys as the Gamecube. 3D artists, in the interim between the two systems, have become more skilled with low-tech hardware. As a result, new games look a lot better, in a lot of (but not all) ways.

This comparison holds for almost every system except the GBA, which had a gimped (read: no) sound processor, and a dim screen that forced developers to wash out the games on the software side. Mother 3's soundtrack sounds like it's being played through a sock at the end of a hallway, and that's a gosh darn tragedy.

ToA is great. WTF?

Don't listen to the haters. Tons of people love this game.

And some people just didn't like it. I say listen to the so-called haters and people who love the game and gauge that information in relation to your own personal tastes. From what I played of the PS2 version I didn't think too highly of it. But I don't really like any Tales games except for Phantasia so I am probably am not the one to ask.
