Wow, it's a 3 parter. I can't wait to see the next one.

BTW, I didn't get to see the preview, can anyone summarize or give a link?

haven't seen it yet but it should be up on startrek.com eventually.

It's no three parter, sadly.
Next week's seems to be about some guy on Earth starting a wave of hysterical xenophobia, apparently with quite a following. A child between Trip and T'Pol has something to do with it.

Huh? Then that's how that arc ended? Looks like they "Halo 2"d this episode where you think there's more and then they're like "The end!"

They should have done a differnt type of ending. As much as I liked this episode, it didn't tie in to well with the Mirror Universe from TOS and DS9. In TOS and DS9 it was pretty clear that the Vulcans were NOT slaves, but equals. Spock became the leader fo the empire. When the Empire fell, Vulcans were held just as responsibe as the Humans were.

Having the Vulcan's as a slave race I thought was pretty silly. They could have even made it so the ship with the alens in control suceeded in destroying the Defiant and have their races accepted by the emperor as equels in their conquest.

Other than that, I enjoyed it. Liked how it was just about the mirror universe, not about someone from the normal universe ending up in the alternate universe.

Man, I loved the ending. I couldn't imagine how they could do it better. No parallels to Halo 2. Halo 2 was an ultra cliff hanger. In A Mirror, Darkly 2 was shock & awe.

There's still a hundred years between In A Mirror, Darkly and Mirror, Mirror. Obviously Vulcans, while second class, are still in a position of prominence in the Empire, even in Darkly. Plenty of time for the situation seen in TOS' Mirror to come into play.

Ehh I dunno. Maybe if there was mention of a
Emperess Sato
in Trek before it might've made a difference. To me, the credits screen came up and I was thinking "ooh I can't wait for next week... huh?"

Well we've never been given a history of Emperors in the Mirror Universe so who knows.... Interesting ep, disappointing ending.

I think the best part about these two episodes was that all of the characters had more identity and greater motivation for what they were doing.

I just can't believe they had an episode based ENTIRELY on the parallel universe. There was absolutely no 'real universe' characters there. No elaborate way for the real crew to meet up with the parallel crew. I was impressed that they did that, especially for a 2 parter.

I'll be interested in the next episode because Peter Weller (Robocop/ Buckaroo Banzai) will be guest starring. Also TrekWeb says that the episode was written by Manny Coto himself. Should be interesting.

I have a theory the last few episodes will advance the timeline until the events in the final episode take place in 2161 so it'll be the correct year for the start of the Federation.

The original plan was for the series to run seven years and end in 2161 with the formation of the Federation, but that's happening at the season finale. The only way they could do it right is if the episode takes place then.

Loved the episodes, but it seemed that the story was abrupt and splintered because they really didn't have as much time as they wanted to flesh out the episodes. Nevertheless it was nice to see them tackle the early years of the mirror universe as its been revisited often enough in trek. That they did an entirely different intro speaks volumes for the creative talent running the show at the moment.

Does anyone here listen to the episode commentarys downloadable at startrek.com? I wish I had known about these before but I listed to the one that went along with Part 1 of Darkly and was very impressed.... I wish more of my sci fi shows did that...

They are only doing it because Battlestar Galactica has been doing it since the beginning.

Ah, well I hope BG continues it... I didn't know and I'm sure there were some good ones that first BG season. :(

No, you are mistaken. Goatees = evil
Soval was like the only "good guy" in the whole 2-parter. Bleh kind of a sad ending. I was hoping that they would find a way to give Vulcans better status in Empire society. The part where
the Avenger (?) headed by conquered species work with Phlox on the Enterprise to make the humans pay was inspiring
, and it would have been nice to see them succeed and get recognized for their efforts. That would then fit nicely with Spock eventually changing the Empire.

Of course, T'Pol had the best lines.
1. Telling Archer that even if it will take centuries, humanity will pay for its arrogance. *Tingles from the foreshadowing*
2. Fighting Hoshi, T'Pol telling Hoshi that she's suprised that Hoshi isn't tired from all the bed she's jumped onto.

Yet more fun from the second part. Cool to see so many more remade 60s Constitution-class sets, and the costumes were a hoot. If we haven't seen them by now I doubt they exist, but if they had versions of this cast photo for the mirror crew on the mirror Enterprise, and the mirror crew in TOS uniforms on the Defiant... well, that'd make for a few cool wallpapers or posters.

I see at startrek.com they do have a few Mirror Universe wallpapers, but they're just logos.

Seeing the future historical date for Archer was interesting, and I liked how part of Mirror Archer's motivation was jealousy of his counterpart.

On the not-so-good side... well, the combination of intentionally retro-cheesy sets and crappy 2005 TV CG for the Gorn just didn't work. Also Bakula; the "confused but helpful" look worked great on Quantum Leap and well to varying degrees on the rest of Enterprise, but it's hard to buy him as an evil space captain.

As for the ending seeming sudden, I see two ways to look at it. One being that given that's supposed to be the same Mirror Universe as previously seen on Star Trek and not just one of infinite other possible alternates, we know there wasn't much of a chance for anything to end well, so they just left it off with us having seen our slice of life in their world. However, I also remember reading an interview with Coto where he was asked whether he actually had ideas for season 5 if the situation changed, and one thing he mentioned was more Mirror Universe episodes; I even remember him saying it would almost be like a series within a series.

They are only doing it because Battlestar Galactica has been doing it since the beginning.
I don't think you're right on that. At least, scifi.com only has them available for episodes 109-113.

Even if they'd gone the full seven years they'd have had to do some time jumping to rach that point. The show started and has remained at present + 150 years, so just progressing at a natural pace they'd have reached 2158.
