4 Unhealthy Mentalities the Internet Turned into Movements

Surprised Distribution of Child Porn isn't up there. There are forums and sites where people "trade" or contact those so that they can trade their "stash."

no they're just annoying. they're not actually militant.

I only use the term militant because it has become the popular phrase to describe annoying atheists. I agree that it's unfair for that term to be used to describe them.

However, it does reflect a little poorly on The Oatmeal to describe militant atheists as normal, unassuming folk with an interest in science rather than the annoying atheists that they are.

I can't say that most of that I don't agree with logically

it's eloquent as hell though

It's a dumb fucking thing to do and all, but probably half of the people I know are total scum and need their license revoked going by some GAF reactions.

In the defense of those people when you know friends or family members who have been killed by drunk drivers to hear some people boast about it or defend it is frankly insulting.

Drunk Driving Advocates? What? lol.
The others, though contemptible, at least have some form of visible misguided logic or tradition to them.

Understood, but I don't think most people are trying to defend it. To speak for myself, I don't condone it at all. I don't even drink. But i'm just being realistic about even good people taking huge risks and making stupid mistakes without realizing it sometimes.

That's not a real thing. Outspoken is not the same thing as militant.

It can be a synonym, it just means aggressively supportive. And yes, I'd say that Reddit in particular has created some very obnoxious Atheists. I support their cause but not how they go about it. The only benefit they provide is giving younger kids an outlet to express themselves, which I'll concede is a very good thing.

There are huge risks you can take that don't end up in other people being dead.

The "Drunk Drivers Should Have Their License Revoked FOREVER THEY ARE UTTER HUMAN GARBAGE" crowd often just strikes me as basement dwellers or teetotalers who have never gone out and had fun, and are just looking for a way to harshly judge those that do.

Go to a bar. Look around. Almost all of these people are going to drive home after a couple drinks. Probably all of them will be utterly fine, causing no injury to themselves or others. I just hate the attitude that drunk driving is some activity only for the utterly irresponsible scumbags of the world, when practically everyone does it sooner or later. If you haven't done it, then chances are your mom or dad or friends have. Nobody wants to call a cab because they had a couple margaritas at the mexican place after work.

Texting or talking while driving has been show to be as dangerous or more dangerous than drinking.....yet you see none of the same indignation there, and people have pretty violently fought legislation to prevent it.

"I have a right to enjoy a beer with my meal!"

Not at all a drunk driving apologist, but since when does having a beer over the course a meal actually lead to significant BAC when the time comes to leave?

There is some truth in what you say but it's the completely wrong attitude to have. It is utterly irresponsible to drink and drive. You don't have to call a cab. You drink soda and/or water, piss, get some food, chat, and fucking wait instead of being an asshole and endangering the lives of people out there.

You can have fun without drunk driving. It's called a DD, staying over at someone's house or a cab.

And those people are just lucky or have only hit parked cars or trees. My dad did it back in the day and I still think that was incredibly stupid on his part.

True, they'd rather call their therapist in 6 months after having a mental breakdown to learn how to cope with murdering innocent people.

awww this topic is gonna turn into a drunk driving debate isn't it?

I was hoping for more info about gang stalking. Has anyone here ever been a victim?

I'm still foggy on the exact nature of 'gang stalking'. Are these people legitimately ill? Are they paranoid that everyone's out for them?

I've seen a four or five of those gang-stalking videos today, and just from those few videos, I've learnt that these things are signs that you're gang-stalked by "perps":

- silver cars
- red cars
- Subarus
- cars with differently colored rims
- cars driving in front of you
- cars driving behind you
- cars driving slowly
- cars driving past just as you start your own car
- cars with driving lights on
- cars or motorcycles with a loud motor driving past
- cars in front of you with bad-smelling exhaust
- full parking lots
- people parking near where you are parked
- people sitting in their car
- people with red clothes
- people with yellow clothes
- people walking their dogs
- people walking past you
- people walking slowly in front of your car
- people moving their hands
- people looking directly at you
- people looking in your general direction
- people not looking at you
- people brushing their hair back
- people near you blasting loud music
- people cycling past you
- people talking to other people
- helicopters flying above
- trails in the sky
- red signs/objects
- yellow signs/objects

Oh my God, they're everywhere.

depending where you live it wouldn't, its something you say to appear reasonable in order to then justify having multiple beers with your meal.

in the thread im talking about, it took less than a page to go from 'i should be able to have a beer' to ' I should be allowed to have a couple glasses of wine with dinner and drive home.'

This reminds me, My uncle just bought a van and Im pretty sure he has a 100% rate of killing somebody, the only way I can think to stop him from driving is to destroy the van somehow before someone gets hurt.

Actually if you went into the past texting and driving thread, there is no double standard. People on GAF hate it as much as drunk driving.

And it IS irresponsible. Go fuck yourself for defending it.

"Nobody wants to call a cab." Oh boo fucking hoo. Nobody wants to have someone in their family killed by a drunk driver either. A cab is significantly cheaper than a funeral.

wonder if we'll get standard bearers for all four of those mentalities in here before the thread's over.

we've already got half of them represented

strike that, looking closer we got 3/4

come onnnn, gangstalking!

I'm still foggy on the exact nature of 'gang stalking'. Are these people legitimately ill? Are they paranoid that everyone's out for them?

As far as I understand it, they think that an "organization", often the government, pays a large number of actors/spies to just hang around a victim and do more or less annoying things, in order to let the victim slowly be aware that they're there. This will cause the victim to be inconvenienced and perhaps irritated, which might escalate into the victim becoming angry and doing something criminal. And then the victim will be arrested. Or, the reason behind the stalking might be the opposite: to make the victim live in fear, so that they won't dare to do anything. In other words, control the victim.

I can think of nothing more tortuous than sitting around in a bar sober.....except maybe having to drive all over town having to drop off the drunks who were actually having fun. I'm not sure if I've ever met anyone that wanted that job (unless they were already a non-drinker).

Considering that most people make it home after a couple drinks, I would hardly say that they are lucky. Luck implies a statistical anomaly or unlikely occurence. If you're in a majority, you aren't lucky.

True, they'd rather call their therapist in 6 months after having a mental breakdown to learn how to cope with murdering innocent people.

It's this jump from "Having a margarita with your tacos" to "NOW YOU WILL BE A MURDERER!" that I've always found utterly ridiculous. It reminds me of the anti-drug ads where one day a kid smokes a joint with his friend and the next he's out on the street, homeless with a needle in his arm.

I have seen most of those in action but the gangstalking is news to me. Interesting stuff. Drunk driving advocates are usually good for a chuckle or two if it wasn't that the mindset is so damn scary tbh.

Military jets do flyovers above my apartment every day.

Oh god, I think I might be a target. That couple making out in the entrance of Food Lion the other day were probably spying on me.

Creepy.

The gang stalking thing is just really sad to me. Those people suffer from paranoid schizophrenia and need help but because of the proliferation of the internet and gang stalking communities are just feedback loops for those people. They believe they're being stalked, there are communities of people that believe the same thing so it must be true and they will not get the medication because that's what the government wants.
