GAF needs to have this! Would completely revolutionize posts and end once for all those Chrome killer gif threads.

right clicking in chrome i have the loop option. right clicking in FF I have no loop option, but I have playback speed options (which are not there in chrome).

How long until Google starts phasing this in? (And will they bother converting their current video database to save on bandwidth costs on their end?)

According to wikipedia they are already delivering webm in their html5 site and will convert their entire library. You see the huge bandwidth savings and it is a no brainer. I think you can force a video to use the webm version by appending "&webm=1" to the url

This is amazing. Sucks that audio is an option though, because that'd kinda ruin it when people start developing plugins or scripts that autoplays them.

Honestly though, GIFs are nice since the compression and limited color makes them charming. .webm just looks like video. It is just video.

I might as well play HD games on my old CRT just for the charm. :)

I'm surprised tumblr is so backwards on this regard (cue the low "tumblr gif" quality).

It's really not that much more efficient than current video codecs. You've been able to download videos from youtube in webm for quite some time and they're pretty much identical size wise. Compared to gif, it is way better. It's also royalty free.
