Patton Oswalt mentioned this in that article about the Twitter troll attacking his dead wife. Whenever he posts something negative about Trump, the reaction from his right-wing followers is always this smug "Yeah, well, we won." When he posts something positive, that's when the knives come out and people get really nasty and personal.I'm convinced that the best way to make them upset is messages of love, compassion, and inclusivity. Women's march, airport protests, Super Bowl ads, etc.
Maybe they take it as a sign of weakness, but I'd sooner imagine they're simply disarmed. Returning pettiness over winning for pettiness over losing is an equivalent act, but many of the Trump diehards don't have the capability to empathize or be conciliatory. When someone is nice all they can do is go to the extreme end and start talking smack about your dead wife. I'd feel sorry for them if they weren't ruining so many lives in the wake of their tantrums.
