As for the Hifiman: None of the merchants on Amazon ships to Austria, and the only other site I was able to find which sells them and ships here doesn't have any in stock, damn.
I'm gonna try to figure out which of those two suits me better. For the time being: Are there any with similar quality that do have inline controls? I'd miss them.

A161P or the Audeo PFE 122 (Don't know how you'd get them to Austria though)

I'd like to get myself a new pair of earphones for christmas, but I can't really decide which one from the OP to get. My budget's 200$ and I'm mostly listening to Metal, but also to orchestras and soundtracks. Any recommendations?
I'm an audio layman. So far I've used the earphones that came with the iPhone, so I guess independent of which ones I buy, it will be a huge difference.

Might want to also checkout the JVC FXT90.

More volume from your iPhone? The S4is aren't the most demanding phones, heck they were made for the iPhone lol. I've never had volume issues even with the RE262 and that phone has an impedance rating of 150 OHMs vs the 18 OHMs of the Klipsch

Anyway; I would definitely recommend that you pick up a line out dock for your new amp. Running an aux cable to an amp distorts the sound. FiiO makes a couple of cheap ones you can check out

I should have left the s4i's out of the equation because they are fine with my iPhone. I was mostly looking for a little more power if using my CAL! with my iPhone and running my iPhone to the AUX jack in my car.

I got my Thinksound ms01 in the mail today. Absolutely love them. They are beautiful, and sound incredible. Thank you for the recommendation HiResDes!

Yessssssssssssss. Currently have my new HE-400s on my head. Or rather, enveloping my head. So good. I'll be getting an amp in a couple weeks, but even still they sound leagues better than my old Sony noise cancelling headphones.

Help me Gaf, my cheap but trustworthy Coloud headphones just broke, and I live in a city where there are no high-end headphones to test, so I need help.

I want some really powerful and bassy headphones for maximum 150$, stylish would also be a big plus.

Keep in mind that I really liked the sound from my Coloud R2D2, so I'm probably not the most picky of people as long as there is some bass to the headphones.

Really enjoying them so far. I'll be getting a FiiO E17 in the next couple of weeks and I'm really looking forward to the improvement to be gained from that.

I ordered M50 about two weeks ago, got them last week, and now I'm returning them. The pair was very uncomfortable to wear, kept sliding down my head etc. Disappointing. I did enjoy the sound quality, but not enough to tolerate the discomfort.

My workday commute I'm generally listening to audio podcasts (sports, etc.). Gym or home listening, it's predominantly trance and rap (in that order).

With a budget of ~$150, should I get comparable headphones, or should I split the budget and grab a pair of earbuds + a pair of 'lesser' headphones?

Over the last couple weeks, I've fallen deeply in love with the HiFiMan HE-300s. I've had them for ages, but I never was at home enough to really put a ton of sustained and dedicated time into them, and I'm regretting that greatly right now. There really isn't a genre of music I can say they don't present well.

But I'm still really curious about whether I'd like the HE-400 or not.

Speaking of.....

Did those come with the black cables?

Yeah. You can only see the ends of them in the picture, but those are indeed the stock cables. Very thick black cables.

Also, since you have the HE-300s you're probably a good person to ask. How on earth are you supposed to screw in the cables to the headphones? Unfortunately I don't have fingers the size of toothpicks, so I could only get them slightly screwed on. Haha

I would recommend spending ten extra bucks and going with the Beyerdynamic Custom One and if you can save $50 the Soundmagic HP100 and AKG K167 are also great comfortable cans.

If you want some comfortable, yet fairly cheap cans, check out these Jaycar (HM5 rebrands), though you'd probably find them rather bass light considering they're quite flat in sound.

Well, I have giant gorilla hands, so I ask someone else to do it for me if it loosens. When I do it myself, I push and hold the black rubber part up as far as it goes, then I use a finger to rotate the small part until it's tightened substantially.

Thanks for the recommendations. With Christmas around the corner I might spring for the Custom One.

I can't decide whether I love or hate the K167 Tiesto branding. I think I love it and am ashamed that I do.

Headphone-GAF, help me.
I need headphones to use with my iPad on the plane, so I am looking for something that blocks outside noise and is comfortable to wear for a longer period.
Any recommendation for around 100$?

Oh okay. Well I'm glad it's not just me. Haha

: )

I was a bit worried about the sibilance, because I'm not sensitive to it at all so my views are always skewed.
I don't think you are alone or not so many people would recommend the M-50 ;-)

Honestly, sucked out mid, a nice but slow bass and super imbalanced highs. Literally, I can't remember any other setup I have listened to with those highs, including my Epos M8i speakers... and those sounded hard. They are really 6-8dB blown out... eeeeewwwwwww.

Can somebody tell me if I'm doing this wrong?

I have asus xonar essence ST sound card and Fiio E9/E7 combo with Sennheiser HD 650.
They are conected like this, Fiio E9 to sound card with line out to the headphone jack on the back of the sound card.

Would it be better to just connect Fiio E9/E7 usb connection and just forget about the sound card altogether? or use the E9 and sound card together?

I'm sorry if this doesn't make any sense but I can't for the life of me figure it out and was hoping somebody would be able to help.

I think I'll get the A161P. The cable's pretty long, unfortunately.

They'll arrive in six days, looking forward.

Now, I was thinking about also getting some gaming headphones. They should be wireless and work with my Xbox360 and my PS3 as well. The budget's 100€/130$ this time, maybe slightly more if it's really worth it. It seems all those from the OP are wired, unfortunately.

I was just about to ask for opinions on Sony's 7.1 virtual surround headset, but I just read that it doesn't work with the Xbox. What a bummer. Are those virtual surround headphones worth the price anyway?

So I'd like a good set of cans for some home-based gaming (WiiU and MacBook/PC) and also to use whilst recording podcasts.

I have been looking at the Sennheiser HD598's... which also currently have the £20 credit lure from Amazon UK atm.

But I have noticed that the BRAINWAVZ HM5 Studio Monitor Headphones have been getting alot of love also.

The money isn't the between the two... but I will be getting a DAC amp as well.

Would anyone have any recommendations for me?

If you really wanted the HM5's you could get them for $60, as the Jaycars in the OP are the same headphone only rebranded. However, they are pretty bass light, have mediocre soundstage, and are quite flat in sound so I'm not sure if they'd be good for gaming.

I'd recommend checking out the Audio Technica ATH-AD900s

I'm thinking about buying some Certified Denon D-5000's for $410. Not sure if its a mistake though. I'm thinking about getting them because I fear their won't be a real good sucessor to them (Those new ones look like they suck and they are ugly) and I won't be able to get them again. The most I've spend on headphones is the HD598's and I don't like to use Headphones too much because of fear of ear loss.

Does anyone here have any experience with Rega's Brio-R integrated amp and/or Fono phono stage and how the phono stages compare? Going to be used alongside a Rega P3-24 turntable.

I might be able to get a new-ish Brio-R for a little less than $500 while a Fono MM is at a sure $400. I'm mostly interested in the phono stage in the Brio-R vs the Fono MM since whatever I'll get I'll be using it alongside my headphone dac/amp. If the price for the Brio-R goes over $500 then I won't even consider it but for now it seems like an option.

The Fiio E7 is redundant in this setup. It's also the worse DAC compared to the Xonar Essence ST.

Front L/R out (Asus Xonar Essence ST) > Line in (Fiio E9) is how you should set this up.

Don't buy the HM5s off Amazon!

Like HiResDes says, the Jaycars are available for much less. You can get them off Jaycar.co.uk for £32 delivered - http://www.jaycar.co.uk/productView.asp?ID=AA2065&keywords=pro+monitor+headphones&form=KEYWORD

They're identical to the Brainwavz except they have a different logo on them.

Forgot to mention that I don't need a microphone right now as I'm not playing any multiplayer games at all.

Wired and beyond my budget of only $130-$150 this time.

My A161P's arrived today, don't know if I can bear waiting for christmas.. They're my first non-shitty earphones ever.
It is not wired, and you're not gonna find good wireless headphones within that budget.

Edit: Also I don't understand this waiting business at all, seem pretty silly to me

Because of your price range you'd be looking for a wireless gaming headset.

Tritton, turtle beach, razer... etc.

Its all fun and games until you get an ear infection :(

Last week I had a ton of work that I found really easy to get into, so I used my Beyerdynamics DT880, Senns 650HD and a Tube amp (Little Dot MKIII) for like 4 days straight, 10 hours a day, full volume while working (programming) and then another like 2 hours during the night playing Dark Souls.

I developed a pretty bad ear infection and now I cant hear anything in my right ear, I went to the doctor and now im taking some antibiotics and hopefully this will all sort itself out in the next 7 days.

Anyway, everything in moderation Headphone-GAF.

I think i found a solution for your problem.

Get more of that antibiotic and continue listening to headphones for 10 hours a day. Genius huh?

Ah, sorry. The wired one I was referring to was actually the UE6000. First search result on Amazon for some reason. About the second part of your sentence.. yes, seems I'm out of luck. Well, I don't need it that urgently anyway.. I'll pass for now and get a nice one next year together with the gaming PC I intend to buy. Thanks for all the recommendations, y'all.

It is. But you know, it's kinda nice to get a bunch of shiny new stuff all at once instead of buying/ordering something just when I feel like it. Maybe that's a bit childish of me, but whatever.

edit: And what BolognaSoup said.

Thanks for your advice... I looked at the AD900's they are outrageously expensive atm (£200+). I picked up the Sennheiser HD598's (for now), I will use them till I am recovered enough from surgery and I can work again. Then I can justify the outlay on a better set of cans.

I can't pick up a Astro Mix Amp from anywhere (for a decent price at least) though for my console gaming... in the meanwhile got a Earforce DSS to tide me over.

Well hi everyone, I'm looking for something to replace the only headphones I've tried that don't hurt my ears which is the Koss PortaPro:
41uU2Y-j%2BdL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

Was talking to a friend about getting replacements for $100 or under since these don't seem to last long for me and they don't make a model with a higher build quality. I want to use them mostly for home and for on the bus but the comfort issue makes me hesitant to order anything.

My friend suggested these:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000G3LCQC/?tag=neogaf0e-20

and I was looking for opinions or alternatives that I know are comfortable for sure. Thank you!
