This is way, WAY off-topic, but I don't want to start a new thread, search yielded nothing, and I respect your guys' (and gals') style...

...does anyone know where I can get high-quality game-related art pieces?

Uh... anyone heard any good headphones lately?

Hey gaf, looking for comfy inner ear headphones. My lady likes to listen to podcasts while she is working, so the comfort is key. Any decent ones that won't break the bank? Have about 50 to 150 to spend.

I think Soundmagic PL50's are pretty damn comfy.

Any thoughts on these? http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0001ARCFA/?tag=neogaf0e-20

They'll be my first over-ear headphones, and the price is right (or so it seems).
If they're anywhere close to being as inefficient as the AKG K271 MKII, then I would advise against them. The Samson SR850 mentioned earlier would fit your needs better, and I would also second that suggestion.

Were you intending to use the AKG K240 for home exclusively?

I just got the Sony mdr-ex310lp and I gotta say I definitely prefer it over my trusted CX300-II and even the S4. Not ready just yet to drop more than 60 bucks on IEMs but one day :)

Give them some time to break in. I've noticed the sound change on two sets of in-ear earbuds I've owned.

I'm currently breaking in my Beyerdynamic headphones I got today before I pass judgement.

More or less. I just want some over-ear headphones for less than 100.

How do the Jaycar (HM5 Rebrands) compare to the Samson SR850 in terms of audio quality and comfort?

Ive heard the Samson tends to clamp down on your head with more force.

I don't have any experience with these, but these are supposedly a pretty good bang for your buck:
Samson SR850

They should have similar sound to the AKG 240 I would imagine, but see if you can find come reviews to compare.

I have these Samson SR850s. They are really good, close to my adh 700s in terms of quality.

Think I'm getting the Aiaiai TM1's tomorrow. They're selling them at Best Buy for $150 I think it is. Listened to them today and they sound pretty nice, I was impressed. The first time I saw them in person too, I love how clean they looked sitting next to all these ugly ass Phillips and Beats sets.

Why not get the M-80 instead? It has the bass of the TMA's, and much better mids and highs. When I was looking for cans a while back, I was going to go with the TMA's, but the people on here, thankfully (in my opinion), steered me towards the M-80.

Last thing I need is another pair of headphones but my wife and others keep asking me what I want for Xmas and I can't help always go back to headphones.

I have
Denon HD-5000
AKG K701
Vsonic GR07 (iem)

Used to have
Senn HD600 (one ear stopped working)
Shure 535 (iem, accidentally dropped 'em and crushed 'em)

Funny, it's the two broken ones I like/miss the most.

Really eying the Westone 4s, Senn IE80s and the Grado RS2is, but I'm open to all sorts of suggestions. Price range $800 or less (I'd be buying this partially, my wife isn't spending that much on me!). I like headphones sounding a little warm and sweet like tube amps. Sources are a desktop and laptop computer, both a tube DAC/amp and a solid state Fiio.

Decided to go with HD650s. It's kind of boring in a way, it's a headphone that's been around for over a decade I think, but they're so highly regarded and I loved my 600s so much that I decided I should just go for the old reliable. And I have custom Cardas cables from the 600 I assume I can use with the 650.

the m80 is ugly as sin though, compared to the TMA1

Did you try the slider in different positions?

Of course. Modes 1 and 2 are ok, but lack the life of my old HD555's, modes 3 and 4 start to muddy everything with the bass. Also the high constant pressure on my eardrums from the closed design is very tiring.

They just are not a good fit for what I need them to do. I tried the Beyerdynamic DT770's at Guitar Center today and those didn't seem to be my kind of style also. But I do know now that the HD5XX will be perfect for what I want to use them for.

Yeah after looking those up the style is definitely the deciding factor. Love the minimalism of the TMA1's.
And the bass sounded fine on them, I plugged in my phone and put on a pretty bass heavy track and it hit hard enough... I don't like when it's so overbearing that it actually muddies out the rest of the song, so I think I'll be content with what they produce. Maybe with a little EQ adjustment I'll be even more satisfied.

Got me some aftershokz.
Bone conduction cans
The bass is vibration, but if they don't ruin my eardrums why not. These are safer than regular cans amirite?

HD650's are a lot different from 600s though

I think I'm looking for some closed headphones. I'll be using them to play games on my PC and listen to music on my PC and my iPhone.

At the moment I use Turtle Beach X11 headphones on my PC. I don't like them because of the constant static noise when no sound is pumping through them. I don't know enough about headphones to know if this is a common issue or what causes it. I also don't think they've ever sounded great, and they're falling apart.

For my iPhone I currently use some Sennheiser MM 30i earphones. I don't think the quality is great, but I use them a lot for listening to podcasts in bed and they're okay for comfort.

I don't often play games these days on my TV, but I've tried connecting my X11s to my TV directly and the sound keeps clipping (I believe that's the term for the sound I hear). I probably don't need to worry about listening to things through my TV, though. I usually watch things from my PC connected to my TV.

Are there any headphones good for both music, video content including TV and movies, plus games on PC and music (and podcasts) on iPhone?

I haven't really reasearched at all about headphones before and know pretty much nothing about them. I'm not sure what I'm going to spend, either, but I think it may be worth it to spend more than a little for something I use for hours every day.

No amp right?

I don't know. To be honest, I'm not that bothered about using them for my iPhone. I only really listen to podcasts on my iPhone.

What benefits come from amps? Like I said before, I know nothing about headphones, and I'm just starting to look for some nice headphones. How much are amps?

My X11s come with an in-built amp, which is probably what causes the static noise/hiss, but like I said, I have NO IDEA AT ALL.

Read the OP first then.

Yeah I have. Amps increase voltage to make the drivers in the headphone work better... or something.

I don't know if I need one or what headphones I'm looking for yet. Obviously if I'm looking for what happens to be a high impedance headphone I may consider an amp.

Please educate me because before entering this thread I really have no knowledge of sound equipment.

High Impedance headphones usually require more amplification...I'll just give you a vague recommendation:

Soundmagic HP100

Is it true that if you wear a pair of headphones excessively, your hair starts thinning wherever they come in contact with your head, or is it a myth?

I have about 100 hours with my HD25's and they keep on sounding better and better. Probably the best $200 I've spent. I'm 31 and this is the first time in my life where I really feel like I lose myself in the music. I put these on and just go for walks for the hell of it. It's amazing hearing subtle sounds that you don't normally hear. This has breathed fresh air into my music collection and has made me discover a lot of new music.

Bwahahahaha.

So, a couple weeks ago I got my Audio Technica M50. My mother tried them out and liked them as well, and hinted she'd like a pair too.

...So comes Christmas Eve morning, literally 15 minutes ago, I call my stepdad about something he could talk about yesterday:

SD: Hey, were you still planning on getting your mother those headphones?

Me: No, I had something else in mind.

SD: Well good, don't. I got her a pair!

Me: Oh okay!

SD: But I got her something better! A pair of BOSE!

Me: Um...oh...okay!

---

A Bose QC15 specifically. So, I don't know, it's Bose, but they could be good for all I know. Though, according to the Amazon page, it $300, almost $200 more than I paid for mine...gulp.

Eh, they'll be fine. My dad wanted a pair of active noise canceling headphones for his flights to singapore and it was between them and the logitech ue 6000s
