Haiti is one part of the world that never gets a break. I hope that the politicians there actually make something of this and work to rebuilt the country in a much better shape.

That building was home over its long history to murderers, thieves, dictators, and evil tyrants... yet it still breaks my heart to see it like that. Its like the country is gone.

I hope this is a sign for some serious rebuilding of the whole country into something better for all the people and not just a few

The US should send military aid to help dig people out. Not just cookies and water, but theyre going to need machinery and manpower to dig people out.

I agree. Obama's opposition will surely say that we are already thin when it comes to military power and money.

So sad, it unfortunately always seems that the most ill-prepared nations get hit with these catastrophes.

They are the most ill-equip to DEAL with catastrophes.

If their house were build to withstand earthquake, it wouldn't be as bad as it is now.

When you get an earthquake every 200 years, then you dont build for one.

The US does it too. Supposedly, the midwest is due for a big one, but no building there is built to stand a strong earthquake because they never get any.

My God this is terrible =( My condolences to the families....

Bonne chance à tous ceux qui vivent ce mal, personne ne mérite de telles choses.

I have a friend in the Bahamas and she's worried about a tsunami coming as a result.
Tsunami warnings are gone so i think its all fine on the tsunami front.

Hope all Haitian gaffer's families are ok. Truly devastating, time to help out, no doubt. Mexico is sending search teams and provisions asap.

Poor guys, i just hope aid and money reaches people that are not corrupt or heartless, as i hear about it all too often in underprivileged countries. The support for nations affected by the Tsunami shows there are quite a few brave souls out there that do their bit to help.

Will be keeping my eye on this, and hoping for the best.

Just heard about this this morning, damn :( I hope that all the Haitian GAFfers and their families are safe.

yeah I am suprised at the lack of interest in this natural disaster. This is a pretty big story.

Haiti is a small country and not very well known, I bet 80% of GAF couldn't point it out on a map.

Wow this is obsolutely horrific! Over 30 aftershocks!!?!

I have to say that I am dissapointed in the lack of interest in this thread. *shakes head* But then again its a poor black country. On top of that its Haiti. I'm going to go donate some money right now.

Already spoke with our corporate donation guys to see if the company's going to be doing matching donations and stuff.

Heard about this last night and didn't realize the magnitude...wow.

Ugh, a close co-worker is Haitian and not at work today; I hope it has nothing to do with this.

Wow, I really thought this thread would be bigger this morning.

IDK though, I told my wife about this and she just shrugged and looked at me blankly.

Then I called her an uncaring bitch.:lol

My family's house there is destroyed, apparently. :(

My grandma's house took a little damage, but not too much because it's outside of the capital city.

Still no word from my family there, though. I think we used up like, 5 phone cards simply trying to call other people in Haiti. Those pictures are fucking bananas, dude.

There is lots of news coverage about the earthquake, but I'd like to see this become more than just that; it'd be good for this to become a celebrity cause so that Haiti can get some legitimate help and infrastructure building. It's like they've been punishing us since 1804 sometimes, man. :lol

Seriously though, it definitely feels like it's the end of the Haiti we know - but maybe this can be the beginning of a better one.

...and I hope my family out there gets to be a part of that.

I care. But I can't do anything about it. I have to, you know, work. Her crying and crying, what am I supposed to do. It's terrible what happened but its hard to work with someone crying across the hall.

Wow what did she say back to you?

My wife works for Food for the Poor. They actually has a local mission with a local college that arrived an hour before the quake. No one has confirmed their saftey, but a text message says some of the students are ok.

http://www.foodforthepoor.org/

they are taking donations..and I can tell you from experience that this money goes right to the people. They have built countless homes, fishing ponds, schools, churches, through donations.

here is their press release

At least CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC were on top of the Haiti earthquake story all night and into this morning. Sure they'll probably get distracted by a non-story soon enough, but at least so far they are giving it a ton of coverage, which will increase awareness and hopefully donations.
