I think Maher strays a bit too far into mockery when it comes to islam without putting much of the valid arguments against it into focus. This makes him appear flippant and bigoted.

I understand that he's an entertainer really but we're crying out for someone to make sensible, rational and liberal arguments against fundamentalist religions. I think with Maher Islam comes in for extra criticism because it is fundamentally more, well, fundamental than other major religions, to the point at which the actual historicity of the religion is riddled with myth and legend.

Growing up in an evangelical community I associate being "pro-Israel" with the belief that its existence is a crucial part of the fulfillment of prophecies in the latter half of the New Testament.
