Currently called "X-Men '97," the revival will pick up where the classic show left off, with several cast members from "X-Men: The Animated Series" are returning; some will reprise their original roles and others will step into entirely new roles.

Returning cast members include: Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, George Buza, Adrian Hough, Christopher Britton, Catherine Disher, Chris Potter, Alison Sealy-Smith, Alyson Court.

"X-Men '97" is also welcoming a number of new voices to the cast, including Jennifer Hale, Anniwaa Buachie, Ray Chase, Matthew Waterson, JP Karliak, Holly Chou, Jeff Bennett, AJ LoCascio.

Who asked for this? I know a lot of kids grew up with this show but what X-men fan want new episodes of an 30 year old (and lets be honest here, not exactly top quality) syndicated cartoon? Rather than a new one?

Also does this mean the lawsuit surrounding the opening theme has been settled? or are they going to make a new one?

Me, and many others that prefer the 90s X-Men to what they've done with them today.
 
Really crazy that they are reviving a cartoon that old. Makes you wonder how the tone will change. Do they still aim it at kids or the adults who grew up with? I guess the MCU always aims for both, but that means it should be a little more "mature".

That show is so ghetto now.

I'd rather they just remake the whole thing so we can see the famous arcs with a better art style and without the sloppy-ass Akom animation.

You know Disney, there is a certain awesome Spider-Man cartoon that got cut off prematurely that I'd like to see come back. Funny enough, Disney is the reason it ended when it did too, lol... T_T

That said, I don't think I want Sony giving up Spider-Man just for Disney to potentially bring back Spectacular (and maybe even ruin it as they've been batting a zero with Spidey). Sony should've never gave up the merchandise rights to begin with.

This X-Men show was on Fox a long time ago. I guess Disney got the rights to it after the purchase of 20th Century? I'm a little confused about what Fox is today, versus what they were when they had 20th Century. Think Disney has Simpsons now too right? I need to look this stuff up.

Disney can make any Spider-Man show they want as long as it's under 45 min an episode.

I'm more than ready for a live action Spider-Man television series.

The formula they use for the films is getting pretty played out. I'm excited for No Way Home, but with the MCU's Spider-Man, it feels like they are constantly straining to give us something new. That's great, but instead of keeping things fresh by veering away from the classic elements we know and love, they could switch the format or medium that they are telling the story in.

For as many multiverses they throw us into, or despite how many guest characters are featured, these films are still contained within a somewhat predictable three-act structure, focus tested to death, and ending in a cgi battle. A television series could capture the essence of the comics in ways we have never seen before - the cliffhangers, the love triangles, the longform storytelling, etc.

Im not sure how a post could be so out of touch. The 90s show is by far the best xmen and has yet to be topped by anything since. This is some EPIC news I know a few people that will lose their shit over this news!

Only way I can see Spectacular continuing is if there's a full transfer of rights for the previous two seasons and future seasons from Sony to Disney. Disney has no reason or incentive to make or revive Spectacular when they can do something new or revive TAS if they wanted to.

Sony didn't give up the merch rights. They had a 50/50 JV with Marvel, Marvel sued and got the JV to be 75/25. Disney bought the remaining 25% from Sony in 2011. The merch rights have nothing to do with the animated TV rights though as that was a vis-a-vis trade with Marvel for more flexibility with the movies. That was done in 2009, prior to the acquisition by Disney.

Animated and under 44 minutes including intro and credits. There are some other limits (i.e. can't use the iteration that is copyrighted by Sony (the movie ones)). Live Action is more complicated, but it's mostly with Sony.

I don't care about the actors or animation. I just want good writing. The fact that it is the original creators running this gives me hope.
