Perfect storm happened, basically. PS3 was a mess to develop for while simultaneously stuff like the DS/3DS became INSANELY popular. And obviously nobody in Japan developed "for" the Xbox, unless Microsoft paid them to (Blue Dragon).

There's still a lot of great japanese PS3 games I absolutely love, but yeah, wasn't a great time.

PS4/Switch/PC luckily saved it again.
