Sony have 45 billion in cash, most of which is lying in accounts and we have high inflation at the moment.... meaning they will be more inclined to spend than let it diminish in value.
Square are down to 6.17 billion market cap and is a Japanese company, 30% of the company is Anime and Film. It just makes sense. Anime depends on Sony for western distribution anyway.
Nobody will outbid them, Sony have more cash than Tencent and Square will not sell to Microsoft or an american company.

They would be integrated into Japanese hierarchy in all likelihood.... language and cultural barriers etc....

The original FF7 was many gamers first JRPG and at the time it was in a league of it’s own when it comes to story telling and pulling emotional strings and having effective cutscenes. It’s kinda old today but still great in so many ways, for me it’s what put some life into the JRPG genre, extremely important title.
Fantasian is in many ways like an old Final Fantasy, it’s on Apple Arcade, made by Sakaguchi who made FF, highly recommended for fans of old FF.
I haven’t played FF7R, hoping it’ll arrive on PC or Xbox some day.

Never liked musou, but this series is overdue for one. Could you really blame them for wanting to make one, with all the iconic characters & monsters? I'd take that over another cringe Dissidia.

I wouldnt be surprised if all these exclusivity deals werent testing the waters for something like this. The thing is, its just a massive commitment for sony because sqaure has like 5000 staff.

Good thing about no team is you can have more depth in the combat like DMC. Unfortunately because it’s final fantasy there’s zero point in having skill based gameplay as the devs like to make it accessible ie easy.

We know that Sony had like 100 mil. that it did not spend on Starfield and people theorited that some of the money was used for Intergrade, maybe other part went for this? But there is a certainly some kind of deal related to FF and Sony as it remains the only Square franchise heavily skewed towards Playstation. Even Dragon Quest is less nowadays, which is hilarious if you think about that
I think the game is probably coming to PC in the future. Ignoring PC market these days is not possible for third parties.
I wonder what move will MS make to retaliate. Purchase some other publisher? Summer is gonna be hot.

Most of their revenue is directly related to MMO's, Mobile and Browser Games, it's whether Sony wants to take all of those division on-board as well. I don't think it's going to happen.
Also have we seen any case where a PLC has accepted a lower offer from another buyer? I don't know what arguments you could make to say that you have done your duty to shareholders also dont know if you need to.
Every community has nutjobs, see biomutant and ps fanboys. I wouldn't even start to quantify what communities is worse.

I don't know. I don't have a PS5 yet and haven't played the Yuffie DLC. But I hope Vincent gets his own game. Such a cool character. & I do remember Square Enix trade marking Dirge of Cerberus bout a year ago so crossing my fingers.

I mean, who is gonna offer more? You think Microsoft is gonna make a bid for another massive publisher? I doubt it, particularly when over 30% of the company would have to be spun off, the language and cultural barriers and the fact that Microsoft already have several publishing operations and they would likely have to retain all of Squares publishing too. It would be incredibly unpalatable for A Japanese company to sell out to an American corp and the government can also stop any acquisitions from foreign companies...
Similar to how Sony went to buy Leyou and then Tencent secured exclusive negotiations..... Sony would have offered more but they simply didn't have the opportunity.

Yes, that is a the biggest part.
I think the publishing wing would see a lot of layoffs and integration but I'm not sure how much that would bring the number down. I also heard Square want to buy People Can Fly.... so that is more staff too.
Some games will have to continue on PC and Nintendo support may continue in some form too.
They may sell off Crystal Dynamics and give Tomb Raider to ND or Bend. A few cuts like that....

Meh, they've been cultivating their xbox audience for years now, so this u-turn is kind of slap in the face for fans on xbox who've been led to believe Square would give them games.
I'd honestly rather see SE become Sony first party, than continue with this timed exclusive/exclusive crap.
At least then there'd be no question about it.

Im sure Sony has thought about what an SE acquisition would look like more than a few times. I mean theyve HAD to especially after the zenimax purchase.
Unless you count the games released on PlayStation, PC and Mac as being Playstation exclusive, Tomb Raider has never been Playstation exclusive.

Bryan you wasting your time trying to explain it, we all know sony has money they can use to purchase someone like square should the situation arise but to certain people on this forum they (sony) cant afford to do this or that its a passive agressive way of warring (you know the same stuff the other side like to play victim about). I am not saying that Sony wouldnt love to take the cash grab from SE mobile division and add it to their fate stay app revenue. And they definitely do have the money for the acquisition.
Also I see the Japanese regulation to be closer to the US one, it's not economic protectionist but more of a security one. Forgetting the US body that also does something similar.
