Well if the MS solution does things the Vita solution never did it doesn't sound like MS made the same mistake at all. Expansion of the internal memory isn't something tons of people are doing either. The memory stick pro duo and Vita memory cards were really neither of those. Sony finally learned their lesson with the proprietary nonsense. Microsoft messed up with the Seagate deal. They should have just manufactured an enclosure and let you drop an m.2 2230 with a minimum spec into it. With no alternative there's no downward price pressure and, honestly, hardly anyone is hot swapping Xbox expansion cards. I got mine when 1tb gen4 SSD was the same price as one of the xbox expansion cards so I didn't feel bad but now the price is a kick in the teeth.
This is an enthusiasts forum and many times people mistake things hard core gamers on this forum do for what the general public will do. Remember this forum had many predictions that both the Switch and XSS would be complete failures. The fact that the internal storage can be expanded on Xbox with no tools at all and is completely portable and hot swappable are generally what average consumers would want. Ease of use and simplicity.
The price is high but it isn't like you can't simply add an external hard drive for cold storage. That was a feature since day one. Don't forget MS did not believe in generations and has tons of current games that can be played off of any storage not just internal.
That's fine but I still never said anything about proprietary options being cheaper. I also rarely see people complain that the thing they purchased has too many benefits. You get what you pay for and what remains true is that MS offered an optional, tool free, portable, hot swappable, internal storage solution that has features no other storage solution offers. Cost is really its only negative. Good thing again it's completely optional.Oh….I distinctly remember having discussions with people saying Xbox expansion would drop in price with standard SSD. They were wrong.
The problem with those benefits is that you are paying for them whether you want them or not.
