"I want to shoot people and cut them apart, but I just don't like violence."
It's not the violence that's the problem. Zelda has violence too. Even Mario, he's stomping on those poor goombas
It's really the exaggerated blood and gore.
Compare it to movies and it's kinda as if all action movies were splatter movies:
1. Luke Skywalker slicing up a stormtrooper, split in half, groin to scalp, blood gushing, brain is pouring out…
2. Indiana Jones blowing the head off a nazi with a shotgun and the brain pours out, putting a knife blade at the tip of the whip, slicing enemies with arms and legs and ears and noses flying everywhere….
3. Daniel-San breaking the arm on Johnny Lawrence and you see the bone come out, kicking so hard that it's crushing someone's breast bone and goes on to pound directly at the heart which ends in an explosion of blood…
4. Thor slamming the hammer and heads gets smashed to goo with blood and brain everywhere…
Etc.
Slowmotion on everything of course…
I mean. That's essentially AAA gaming.
Is it really necessary?
The problem isn't so much the buckets of blood, but the tone-deaf nature of modern games. It comes off as hokey, spiteful, and over-the-top.
It's both imo. And I don't understand it.
